What I am annoyed about is the 5090 being the only one to get a VRAM capacity increase. The 5070 and 5080 seem to be sticking to 12GB and 16GB. It would be nice if the 5070 had 16GB and the 5080 had 20GB. 12GB and 16GB on a 70 class and 80 class GPU in 2025 is pathetic.

Nvidia's competition is so wounded right now that they have an emotional monopoly on gaming enthusiasts. Even though channels like this one do a good job of trying to drum up true competition between teams RED GREEN and BLUE, Nvidia knows all y'all are about to bend the knee, take the 12, and say thank you. The thing I appreciate in my old age (relatively speaking) is playing at 4K 120hz with DLSS turned on and my GPU is doing the work of 1080p while it looks almost better than native 4K.

    • @eduardomartin8510

Because there isn't much of a difference. Most of the time playing at 4k is a net-loss, unless you really can't tell the difference between 60 or 120fps which is ACTUALLY perceivable.

@Wahinies just because it is native doesn't mean it is better. 4K with 150% scaling looks so much better than 1440p for desktop usage. Text looks incredibly crisp. I had forgotten how pixelated 1440p looks in comparison when I looked at the 1440p monitor I gave away to my dad.

This time they just downgraded the silicon instead of downgrading the naming. Plenty of good 80 series cards were 103 dies. The problem is the 103 die has never been less than half of the cores of a 102 die. That’s crazy. I’m willing to bet that the super refresh for this generation will be the swap over to 3gb vram chips, and the 5070S will become an 18gb card and 24gb for the 5080S.

@@Timppa99I disagree, with how 1440p is still a growing segment and will inevitably take over 1080p, you can only compress data such as textures so much until data decompression takes away a significant amount of processing power. The main problem is that AMD is completely leaving the high end GPU market which removes all pressure from Nvidia to create progress in the market. This will be intel core quadcores for a decade all over again until a competitor disrupts Nvidia's horsing around.

If the next Steam controller doesn't force me to buy AA batteries, it's certainly a step in the right direction.
Also, seriously guys, we need to have a talk about how consumers have a great deal of power in any market. If a company releases substandard products and charges a premium, you *stop buying the product* until they change. A 12GB 5070 Ti might be *good enough*, but is it actually worth the asking price? No. Same with a 8GB 5060. Yes, while AMD hasn't been competitive in the market in a long time, and their pricing is also problematic, Nvidia is by far the worst when it comes to value. In short, stop buying Nvidia's crap until they learn, because this willingness to give them premium dollar for minimal upgrades is one reason why we're in this moment in the first place.

I went with the Asus TUF 7900XTX in my build and haven't regretted it. What it boils down to is price to performance, features and what you intend to do. Both offer similar features but Nvidia has always had the latest RT cores where AMD/Radeon has the previous generation of RT cores. Personally I view ray tracing as a gamic, eye candy that does not even contribute to the game and its just a excuse to charge more money.
Going from a 1070ti to a 7900xtx was a little bit of a learning experience. But if you do decide to go with the 7900xtx and are coming from Nvidia be sure to use a dedicated driver remover software to completely remove all of the Nvidia drivers from your system before installing your 7900xtx and its drivers otherwise you have a very good chance of running into issues.

Threadripper can draw that much power on Extreme over clocks too.
The truth is that you would rarely get to 99% on both GPU's its usually pretty even set around 60% to 75%.
Many people think this bad but it's actually just means your CPU bound (especially mGPU games that don't use drivers) or game code engine bound at its limit. Then people complain about scaling not being 100% even though dual CPUs were never 100% in scaling when they started to get better software that supposed them.
