You should do a kind of "How I got to this point" video before it becomes too far in the past and you push it all out of your mind. One of the things that made you such a big hit with the disc golf community (in my opinion) was that we got to see you go through a lot of the same things that all of us have experienced. From the beginning where every shot was a short hyzer to those eye widening moments of excitement when it finally went how you wanted to getting better and better. We got to see some glimpses into working with people like Paul and Drew and others, but we also missed some of the "a-ha" moments. I think you could help a lot of people by remembering through some of those moments and explaining what you were doing before and what tweaks seemed to make the biggest differences for you. Everyone gets stuck at some point in their game and hearing how a (now) top pro struggled and then overcame would be awesome.
Always appreciate the appropriate use of statistical terminology. Standard deviation is just good stuff. It would be interesting to see how wide of a spread your landing points are from your point of origin.
Brodie! I just got into disc golf this week after a few years of following you. I’m a golfer and I liked your golf stuff, and now I am getting into disc golf because of you. I played a 6700 foot (20 hole) course and shot +5 after only 10 days of playing. I can throw it pretty far but am really bad at putting outside of 10 feet. Any tips for a beginner looking to get better and potentially start playing in tournaments?
It's been a few months since I watched any dg content and Brodie has his form very well in shape. Very smooth and clean without trying to yeet it, he just is
Your comment made me try this myself, and with 8 inch hands (from bottom of palm to fingertip) I could quite comfortably hold 10 drivers. This will vary between drivers depending on the height of the disc though. Tried 11 but that didn't work at all, so my empirical study tells me that he probably has at least the same size as me.
Love the channel. You're a monster out there. "I'm going to be just like Brodie when I grow up. I just need to be huge and finely tuned and skilled." Suggestion - throw into darker (non-sky) backgrounds; hard to track the discs even with full screen and my glasses on.
"...birds are hyping me up" lolol. I saw your rounds at Goat Hill, and the commentators remarked on how you're already top 1 percent in the field in disc speed coming out. How??? Where do you feel it the most? Do you feel any muscle really engaged? Where's the oomph coming from?
Oomph in disc golf comes from the legs and getting that power to work your arm like a whip where release is 'snap' like when you crack a whip. Brodie is tall, athletic, muscular, and uses his legs well. Watch any pro discgolfer in slow mo when they take their 2nd and last step and you can watch the power start on their back leg and move through their legs, then core, and ultimately arm and finally finger tips. Perfecting that timing gives you exit velocity, perfecting nose angle with that will give you max distance.
A background in ultimate also gives you a good base to throw far in disc golf. Once you get the DG form down the other mechanics learned in Ultimate also translate over to some degree. At least it did for me when I picked up DG
Sounds like you have the same issue with the sound as I sometimes do with my wireless setup.. and I am happy to learn that I can still hear high frequency sounds :D
Hello Brodie!!! Love your stuff buddy! I was wondering if you had ever made a long hammer shot with an Aerobie Pro ring? I do great distances on the back hand but need improvement for hammer shot. Thanks!!!!!!
Cool video! Are you measuring the distance straight out from the starting point in the direction you are aiming or at an angle? At an angle you get a little extra distance because the angled path is a hypotenuse of a right triangle so is longer than along the aim line (which is a leg). My guess is this would increase the variability of your measurements because the flight time away from the aim line wouldn't count. Have you compared the flight times of your throws on similar molded discs from this video? My guess on this is that you are quite consistent with the technique so unless you get a steep hyser throw or change in atospheric conditions they're probably pretty similar :)
Great video Brodie & Kelsey. Did you have any expectations that your average throw distance would have been longer in this video than the first video based on the amount of prep work you’ve put into the sport and you’re playing more tournaments.
I can appreciate the financial aspects of touring, and that you weren't 100% sure you would get to the green side of the waitlist, but I think you should have made the trip to Santa Cruz and just indulged yourself in DeLa! Such and amazing experience.

Brodie, It seems lke your throwing 420-450 just a year ago. I saw the latest video when you were throwing a 540 average; other than picking the perfect disc, what made the extra feet? If you talk about timing, how did you tansition so fast?
The last video when you did this challenge did make me cringe pretty hard because of the the things you pointed out. I'm glad to see you at least acknowledged that it was a little bit insane ;). Still doesn't change the progress you've made though as a player. Insane!
What part of your arm needs rehab? This isn't like a baseball pitch football throw where you're using all of you back/shoulder and arm muscles to throw. A disc golf throw is all about compounding sources of momentum. It's rotation of the body with what is basically a karate chop at the end. Your elbow is the work horse. Everything else is timing to add-on to the compounding momentum. The run up creates speed, then the plant-brace transfers that speed into the rotation, then the power pocket, lag, and "karate chop" transfers the speed from both, into your forearm, then a neutral/ relaxed wrist snaps around because of the speed of the arm, adding a whip (the infamous snap) into the equation, creating a fourth source of speed that transfers to the grip, where the disc is RIPPED out of your hand creating spin, and transferring all of that compounded momentum into the disc. Your shoulder, arm, and wrist should remain neutral and relaxed. The biggest muscle group used is the core muscles, to get speef in the rotation. If you're having arm pain, you're either doing something wrong, or you're doing WAY WAY too many reps - in which case you should have pain in a lot more places than your arm.
@@BrodieSmith I've been throwing disc golf discs all pandemic and caught up with my old ultimate crew for the first time in a long time and found I still had all my throws, once you get moving it's surprising how quickly it all comes back
