  • Bible teacher Derek Prince explains the importance of humility and says in this context about fasting: 'We wouldn't dare to go ahead in the ministry that we're in, if we didn't practice regular fasting.'
    1 Peter 5:5-6 talks about the importance of submissiveness and 'being clothed in humility.' Derek points out that Peter says here literally 'put on an apron of humility'. People in the time of the New Testament would put on an 'apron of humility' if they were slaves, as a sign of submissiveness to their masters. So when Peter tells us to 'put this apron (of humility) on', he actually says that humility is an attitude rather than a code of conduct.
    As a very remarkable example of a way to humble ourselves, he talks about Ezra 8:21-23. Ezra put his trust for protection in God and he proclaimed a fast. One of the appointed ways to humble ourselves is by fasting. This is also found in Psalm 35:13.
    Derek Prince makes it very simple. How can we be humble? By being humble and by proclaiming a fast.
    This is the sixth clip, part of Derek Prince's full sermon 'The Church's Victory' Full video: • The Church's Victory |...

    My issue is that being an ex-anorexic sometimes fasting gets the best of me and I start feeling prideful and in control. I really need to address this issue because I definitely feel I need to humble myself so so so much. I sometimes get boastful for knowing the Bible and fasting for the Lord and turns out I reverse what should come as a blessing just for the sheer arrogance that I feel creeping up my deeds. I need advice and to pray steadfast for the satan tries to corrupt all good that God has put in my heart to do. I don’t want to be prideful and I don’t want my fasting to become carnal or egocentric. How to separate spiritual fasting of mundane-fasting is a rather daunting task for me.

      Thanks for your honesty, Adib. I believe that this confession of yours is an act of humbleness in itself. One step closer to being less prideful :). May God bless you and give you wisdom in this matter!

      Adib, I didn't know this until I went to God with similar concerns and He showed me that fasting can be applied in many areas and not always necessarily about food. Fasting is really about giving up something (usually pleasurable) which preoccupies our thoughts, time, and energy...then redirecting that energy towards intimacy with God. You can fast from TV, social media, hobbies...even certain people, events. You can try fasting from certain thoughts or habits of saying negative things. You can set a goal "I'm going to try to go this whole week and attempt not to say one negative thing" or something along those lines. It's important to pray before you start, ask God to keep you mindful and reveal things to you along the way. You might even be surprised that fasting could be fasting _from_ a diet & actually eating desserts that usually you wouldn't. Enjoying them & thanking God for the variety of things He provides that our over- preoccupation with looks & fitness keep us from enjoying. Think about this, you can actually fast from bragging about how good you are at fasting! After all, a large part of fasting is about humbling yourself, breaking patterns, and exercising authority over carnal mindsets!

    Humbling ourselves through fasting definitely works. We must go into it with the right attitude, though, and for the right reasons. Be prepared for satanic attacks during the fast. The devil hates to see us drawing closer to God. It is spiritual warfare, after all. Our ego and pride come from satan, so fight hard against it. Be brave, be humble. The word instructs us to humble ourselves.
    James 4:10 - Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you.

    • @allme2547
      @allme2547 4 года назад +1

      Amen! The only thing I slightly disagree with is about our Ego & Pride coming from satan. They come from us, but satan uses them to gain access to our minds/emotion/will power. Then we become tools for manipulation. It started in the garden of Eden. The serpent engaged Eve's ego & pride: "You will become like God" Pride has been the root behind every fall since then.

    • @adiblatif
      @adiblatif 4 года назад

      All Me I tend to think that satan was the father of pride; and through his campaign - enticing us through many vehicles such as television, social media, actors and magazines, it flourished beyond our control: the motto is love yourself before loving everybody else (satanic teaching to the core). So yeah, the whole “be you”, “be unique” propaganda was fit for the culmination of the selfie-generation. Egotistical as heir to the mass media. I agree with the first commenter Satan seeded our flesh and God seeds our spirit - at the end of the day what matters is which one we’ll water and let flourish within ourselves.

      I used to fast for 3 days and 5 days. It was not easy and my grand daughter used to make me a big meal when I broke the fast. I really needed a small meal, but bless her heart I ate the big meal. Now that I am advanced in years (78) I have a number of prescriptions that I thought would cause me problems if I didn’t eat. Then last year one morning The Lord said, ‘Fast and pray.” I did, and it turned out to be 40+ days. But...It was not difficult and I felt better, had more energy, and could think more clearly than when I wasn’t fasting. Also, I was never hungry and only lost 10 pounds. What a blessing! The Lord truly gets all the credit for that! - kw

    Strongly disagree with Derek's statement!
    If an elder whom I should respect does not live according to law of God and Teaching of Jesus, i am called to rebuke that elder on the account of two or three witnesses, pointing out his transgression, so that the sin and Lawlessness does not spread like Coronavirus!
    Here is two witnesses: Isaiah and apostol Paul, and this should be sufficient for a wise person who fears the Lord!
    For it is written:
    To the teaching and to the testimony! If they will not speak according to this word, it is because they have no dawn.
    Isaiah 8:20 ESV
    Romans 3:31
    Do we then overthrow the law by this faith? By no means! On the contrary, we uphold the law.
    Romans 3:31 ESV
    As far as the book of fasting goes - the proper fasting is written in Isaiah 58, and if you will follow that, you will be more than OK!
    But that book of Derek, should be thrown out as garbage!

    Is Jesus the Son of God? Did He heal the sick, the dead, the lame and the blind through His power? For us today it takes faith but its easy to believe if you take a look around you and know that this is a question that you uniquely can ask yourself as a human, apart of the animal kingdom because we are made in the image of God, with inquisitive minds to be able to realize our own mortality and reflect deeply on why we do what we do that no other animal can really process on a deeply moral and or psychological level. That so far can be found at the beginning of the Bible which should help. The points that the Bible says about our selves as human beings is that our existence isn't out of a happenstance. Possessing the sense of injustice, and some of us even a conscience that lies consistent in the mind and heart of an individual, with or without people to witness what we might say or do privately is not a matter of evolution, but how we must live with one another. This isn't an evolutionary trait because no animals in the animal kingdom have any mental capacity for standards of morality among themselves or qualms with racism and right and wrong.
    Why this is such a long standing question of whether the Biblical entity of God and Jesus is likely exsisted tends to lack less on the request for evidence, but the avoidance of the acknowledgement on a number of alienatable factors that human autonomous beings have when it comes down to moral accountability and our conscience that can and has unconsciously acted as a monitor of our own actions while some of us might feel it to be accusatory or excussive of our public or even private conduct. The inspired Word of God has recorded human activity that has taken place in the cases of many old and new testament accounts whether be it as nations, individuals, in which statues, rich or poor, slave or free that address the heart of mankind or "core" of the truth of their accountability for every single action, whether lazy, or productive, humble or prideful, hateful or loving, harmful or helpful. This serious consideration that God has designed the human being to contemplate in such as way that as a human race we can contend with our feelings and knowledge to comprehend our actions and understand willful disobedience to our own conscience to some innate contentious laws such as "thou shalt not kill" we know it is wrong to kill, kids or puppies. When a puppy yelps, we get scared and wonder why it yelps in pain. It might take a while to understand it, but what other creature can grow in its expanding conscience and apply it when learned even in solitude, holding and keeping to those concepts for years or for some, up until the point of death.
    The notion that an amoeba luckily developed moral and ethical consciousness aside from it's activity being a major influence on how other animal life will be hindered or unhindered around the world (pollution, excessive claim on natural resources or also complete lack of disregard to our impact outside of the kingdom of man which needless to say is a non existential concern for any product of "evolution"
    Completely irrelevant to its "evolutionary" progression of its time on earth. Suppression of the truth that we already have which is a mind that can acknowledge and monitor the way our actions have an effect on the world and people around us. Not only that, but our age long reoccurring questions we ask ourselves, "what is the purpose of life?" And the answer is not simply, "living your best life", because if that were the case, then what about the dozens of rich and celebrity suicides from those who seem to have it all, get numb, depressed, sad, bored, which can lead to allot of different things, like drugs, meaningless sex and alcohol. These people might even own mansions and extravagant parties and success in affluence, but yet even that dosn't seem to be enough. Carnal death is where the Christian and the atheist can come to an understanding but not much to the latter's benefit. That is the appointment that each of us have to meet and nothing we can physically amass in our short frame of life that could matter in the end when it comes to our burial. We know our actions and how they might have affected other people which can last a lifetime even after our body is decayed. So the truth of the struggle in the matter of believing in the inspired written Biblical descriptions of God is that He is justice. We dont think about that. He as God that gave us this sense of justice dosn't just desire it, but He gives the word the meaning. We have this sense, and not just any old sense but a STRONG sense of the need for justice. We image bearers of God ought to have it if we are to be accountable for our actions, and it would make sense that would be something we might want, not because of an accident on a planetary scale that all human beings "evolved" to have a conscience, but the fact that doing "right" rather than "wrong" is expected out of us and with vindication for right being done, there is and will be punishment. Most INNATELY retract from accepting one's responsibility for one's actions, especially if the punishment is weightier than deemably bearable.
