I have been flat-footed my entire life. About 9 years ago in my early 50’s I developed crippling plantar fasciitis . I had gotten by for years in good Brooks athletic shoes, fit in a running shop by people who took one look at my feet and knew what shoe I needed. I would break down a pair of shoes every 6 months. When I finished that phase and changing shoes no longer worked, they sent me to a pedorthist, who made me very expensive, but very wonderful, full sole custom orthotics. My plantar fasciitis was cured in less than 2 weeks! That pair of orthotics lasted 5 years!! They are limiting, as not every shoe has a deep enough foot bed to use these monsters, but I walk without pain! I just want to encourage anyone with overpronation to not give up...relief is available!
I second this as someone who also got custom inserts. I play golf almost every weekend in MN (when it's not cold) and I'm too cheap for a cart so I walk, that's usually 4-7 miles depending on the course. I would get home with terrible foot pain and had to ice them each time. Btw I was only 19 at the time. Golf shoes are plenty deep as the insert is the only cushion between your foot and hard plastic that holds the spikes. So, got the customs and it felt like someone shoved a rock in each shoe! Hurt at first, but after two weeks I could walk pain free! For regular street shoes I've had good luck with New Balance and Aisics having enough depth for my inserts. My dress shoes though dont work so if anyone has a good THIN yet strong arch insert please let me know!!
how can you be cured in 2 weeks of plantar fasciitis? You were born with it,there is no cure. There are only temporary measures or if you’re doing surgery
I am a 55 yr. old woman with flat feet. I have worn athletic shoes for most of my life. I tried wearing Birkenstock shoes to help with my developing foot pain, but that only seemed to weaken my feet further. Recently, I have become a convert to barefoot shoes, toe spacers and foot exercises. Today I also learned the importance of training the gluts aß well to help balence the overall support system ratio of the ankles, knees and hips. For me, the pain in my back, knees and feet has become so much better, that I can not imagine ever, going back to traditional shoes. No more arch supports, narrow toe boxes or thick, stiff soles for me.
I've always been told that I had flat feet (and they even look a bit flat), but this test indicates otherwise. Incidentally, I've never bothered with arch support and now I know why it hasn't caused any issues - I don't have flat feet. Thanks, B&B! An excellent empirical test.
This is a helpful video. My chiropractor told me that as a 31 year old female I have severely flat feet and the worst he's ever seen. Hes pretty taken back by them so he's helped me get custom orthotics and I'm looking for a goof pair of shoes for flat feet and someone who is active. It seems most shoes just don't help me, so I'm on the lookout for new ones that actually really support me.
I have "collapsing arch" that flattens out when I walk. I tried motion control shoes and they were very painful under my arch. Felt like I was walking on a golf ball. The New Balance 990v5 is very comfortable for me as well as offering a firm, thick sole and good heel/ankle support. Great video, thanks!
I had a normal arch feet when I was 12, but afterwards I started wearing shoes bigger than my foot's size and then I got flat feets. Now I am doing several exercises to correct it.
I tried nike TNs coz they feel solid. I just find that my right foot falls right along the side of my foot. I'll try asics next. I have sciatica, flat feet and a 1cm short leg. Even with new orthotics I can't walk far.
Always had flat feet and what worked best for me was the zero drop Altra Torin 5. I bought them once, then bought three more just to keep in stock. Their “original” foot shape has been a godsend to me.
I started going to Menards and buying a roll or 12"sheets of Cork. Cut it out just like trimming an insole, layer it as thick as possible possible in your boot and after a day or two, it'll start to form to your foot and give you support where you need it. Works for me at least. Super comfy too
Just for your information, you can definitely improve the arch of flat feet, there are correctional exercises just for that. I was born with flat feet. and now I have a little tiny arch, which to me is a lot.
I was born with flat feet, both of my parents have it. When I went to get new shoes and stood on the machine, the podiatrist said I had the flattest feet she's ever seen LOL! And she'd been working a similar job for 15 years! Wearing it like a badge of honour. Anyway she recommended me shoes with proper arch support. I find I can run and stand on them longer without discomfort or pain, although it doesn't remove the problem entirely.
I have high arches but lately my left foot arch got a sharp burning pain that felt like a pulled muscle. I’ve had pain for 2 months now & have to wear arch bands even when barefoot or it happens again. The pain goes up my ankle now. I guess cheap but cute shoes are a thing of the past. I’m investing in vionic brand shoes. Thanks for all the info!
Good video, thank you. I've always had problems with very flat feet and wore Brooks Motion Control shoes for a few years. They were okay, but not great. Then I switched to minimalist zero drop shoes, and it changed my life. First I stared wearing Altra Zero Drop shoes, and they were great. Unfortunately, they increased the stack height on most of their models, to a minimum of 22mm; thus, they were no longer minimalist shoes. Then I changes to Xero shoes. They are the best ever.
I'm glad to hear the information that you both give. So many times people say you need to break in your shoes which I never believed. Doctors always recommend support for people with flat feet. Maybe the books say this but real life says that’s wrong. I can run freely with light flat tuning shoes.
i had heel spurs and great arches. custom orthotics help the plantar facitis pain. heel pain finally got so bad cortisone shots no longer helped. after heel spur surgery i now have flat feet and much pain when barefoot. wore brooks for years then got bunions. to avoid surgery i now wear widest shoe i could find, mens NB 6E wide for bunion relief. fit at back but front feels like got on a roomy house shoe! happy feet!!! elastic strings help with arthritis in hands. yeah i.m a bit of a mess but still upright and movin forward!!! love your videos.

My feet are totally flat now. I was suffering terrible pain in my feet for over 10 yrs. It was like having electric shocks. It made target archery very painful to do. I didn't connect that I had became gluten intolerant around the same time as the pain had begun. I was probably gluten intolerant all my life but as an adult you tend to eat more carb based foods. I gave up gluten and besides all the usual gluten induced problems disappearing the pain in my feet disappeared. So I done some research online and came across a scientific paper on Gluten and tendons. Apparently gluten in people like myself who are sensitive to it, it can attack the tendons etc in the feet and other joints. Making walking very painful. The only shoes which gave me a little relief was to wear barefoot trainers. It's basically a very thin shoe which fits your feet like a glove. You're walking barefooted really. The pain was terrible.
I've been flat footed for as long as I can remember, and bunions, and broke my right foot across the arch, tore muscles and ligaments.. now have a HARD time being on my feet for long periods of time. Wake up the next day and cry just putting my feet on the floor..
Yeah my feet are extremely flat - my whole foot is on the ground (had a scan done) and now my ankle collapses inward 😩 I will try these no motion shoes
I have been wearing Virbam five finger shoes full-time for now over 2 and 1/2 years. I now have no longer flat feet, weak arches, weak abductor muscles, plantar faciitis, chronic fungus infection between my toes, weak ankles no more. Forget arch supports.
Most people have been fed lies by the medical industry and the shoe companies. My feet have never been healthier. No more pain. NO need for any surgery or toe separators or arch supports. Every Roman engineer who built arches for the City of Rome that are still standing knows better.
Where u born with flat feet, and did u have a flexible or rigid flat foot? I’m asking because I have a completely flat foot with no arch support whatsoever and the doctor just told me that there’s nothing that can be done. Thanks
I do not know what kind of feet I was born with. All children are born with flat feet and about 13 develop an arch. All I can remember is that when I was about 10 my Dad bought me some size B width shoes and I told him they were too tight. He said I will grow into them. I did. My toes splay now and I am 2 sizes bigger in length. My feet are very happy in wide Vibrams. I never had a bunion, but I was developing Hallux rigidus. Now a year later than above still no pain.
I been hearing that all we need is a minimal or barefoot shoe and allow our feet do the work. I don't have flat feet and I always buy the best shoe and I am in my late forties with stiff and tired knees and sometimes my lower back will hurt when I run. I am sick and tired people telling me it's age related or it's hereditary or it's somehow my fault. "We all gonna have problems" . Tell me, has anyone ever heard about indigenous third-world people have foot pains, bad knees , and other arthritis issues due to not wearing a Western standard shoe with all the science in them?
I wish they made better work boots and runners for flat feet and orthotics. I have really bad flat feet. My last orthotics I believe were to soft and made wrong. No support. I have new ones now. But unsure if they fit really well or lacking support. Almost feels flat under my feet. I've seen 3 to 4 podiatrist. Hard to get the correct help.
I have a bit of flat feet, and so far it's Asics shoes that feel best. They were the only ones I could find that have actual curvature in the insole below the arch. All the others: Nike, Adidas, Reebok, etc, all have flat insoles! But they didn't make them always like this, I actually have a pair of Reeboks from 25 years ago, and they do have curved insoles! Well, not anymore...So this is what "modern" running shoes are....
My cousin got flat feet after being over weight for 5 years. No doctor warned her so that she could get supports. Do a search for DIY silicone supports.
If you are trying to control overpronation with motion control running shoes you should instead look at a good supportive tennis shoe instead. Running shoes are optimized for controlling forward motion, not lateral motion. Tennis shoes provide more lateral support than the best running motion control shoe IMHO (I've used both types). In addition, some tennis shoes, like the K-Swiss Hypercourt Supreme have a bootie construction. This additional ankle support further adds to the overall lateral support of the shoe.
"Have to try on 5 or 6 pairs of shoes" made me want to laugh & cry at the same time. I have horrible feet to fit shoes (flat, wide & toes go straight across like Fred Flinstone) & it takes hours at the store or like 5 rounds of multiple shoe Zappos orders. :( I second someone else's comment that I would love a video about shoes for wide feet with great arch support.
@Ally G- Do you heared about HyProCure implants surgery? I talked with many people that had this operation.... and they now have normal feet and different life with them!! Man... I'm collecting money now for that operation. I'm determined. My flat feet ruining my life :(
Bob = Pes Cavus, big time. New Balance 1540 is the best for most flatter feet most of the time, the straight last is important. Too bad they are not being made any more and will be gone when the remaining inventory is gone.
I am 21 years old. I always workout. Trying to stay in safe for the Marine corps boot camp or fire academy ( which ever comes first. Military is taking for ever). Mostly everyday. Just last week while running my whole calf on both legs started to hurt and get tight while running. Next day went running same thing . And the next. So i stopped running for a bout a week. Today i workout . Then when i started to do air squats; under my foot started to cramp up. I know i have flat feet. I’ve been using some Reebok cross fit shoes. I guess it’s time to invest into other shoe. I am in good shape but with this foot and calf pain i get during workouts. Makes me not want to workout.
Look into minimalist shoes! I am also flat footed but a few months ago I got some minimalist shoes. I have a pair of Lems Primal 2 and Vivobarefoot Primus Lites. I lift weights in my Vivobarefoots (basic compound lifts, squat, bench, OHP, deadlift, rows), and I can feel my feet muscles engaging WAY more in them, especially when squatting and deadlifting. Try it out!
I have flat-ish feet and personally have gone the complete opposite way to this, most footwear don't have a wide enough toe box to allow the big toe to support the arch properly. Some minimalist and barefoot shoes do allow more space in the toe box which helps your foot to support itself naturally. In theory all these motion control and arch support shoes help with is weakening your foot muscles. I don't want to be wearing support shoes/slippers around the house, I see my grandparents with flat feet struggle at home with balance because they wear rock like slippers with 'arch support'. I refuse to believe that after billions of years of evolution, a huge portion of the population are born with defective feet that need to be encased in shoes like solid rock. I haven't been wearing barefoot shoes for too long yet but I feel better in them, I used to get very sore arches and feel like I was getting shin splints after being in shoes all day but that stopped after I switched to minimalist shoes. I don't know if it's for everyone, especially older people or people with flatter feet than me but I would say test the waters out a bit, if you can walk around at home barefoot it shouldn't be too much of a jump, just be conscious if you personally can avoid that inward rotation of the ankle. Start easy if you choose to transition.
@@MustardseedFaithGrows I'm from Poland. My English is not very good. I use google translator. Can you look at the English forums what are the opinions about HyProCure implants? And then write here? I have read Polish forums and opinions about HyProCure implant surgery are very good! People write that it changed their quality of life. But in Poland treatments are not performed by too many specialists, only 3. Therefore, there are not many opinions. I think there are many more opinions in American forums.
I have had flat feet since birth I’ve found Altra and Topo shoes to be very effective. They aren’t cheap but way better than New Balance in regards to support and comfort. ASICS are just too hard and stiff for me unless I use their $160+ shoes...no thanks.
My 10 year old son is extremely flat footed. The podiatrist said he’s an (8.5-9.0 out of 10). He plays tackle football and complains of foot pain. Through the help of a friend who is a sports trainer, I’ve been taping his feet and ankles (creating and artificial arch plus ankle stirrup support), this has been helping. His custom orthotic inserts are coming soon but do you have any recommendations on what kids shoes would be good for him? Currently he has a pair of Nikes but they offer no support whatsoever. Thanks!
I was one of those patients whose ankle pronated to the floor. I also had severe tibialis tendinitis. The pain was so bad I could only walk on the outer side of that foot. I ended up with a calcaneal osteotomy to rebuild the arch. Unfortunately my orthopedic surgeon never once recommended post surgical PT much less orthotics to keep my arch working right. About a year later though, my chiropractor fitted me for custom orthotics. I wear them constantly with good quality footwear like in this video. My feet feel great 9 years later.
I always thought I had high arches as when I walk barefoot through water and walk on concrete, my foot looks like a bit like Brad's. BUT I've been told I do have flat feet. 😳
I went to the goodfeet store couldn’t afford them they wanted 1500.00 dollars for their insoles an orthotics so my feet are still flat and hurt if I walk a lot so I live with it
Very strange. My left foot is flat and my right foot is average arch. I am wearing rigid shoes and I am having pain in my right foot arch. I was told by the store that I need flexible shoes. I'm so confused :(
I tried the flat foot test and I have an arch but according to my podiatrist I have really flat feet. I get shin splints, pain tightness in my calves. Leg pain
What kind of shoe do u suggest. I have flat feet, instability and obese so I'm not able to stand on my feet very long. I used to be able to stop for hours with no issues. I'm so tired of my legs, feet and back killing me with shopping maybe an hour.
What?! I've never (except once) had a shoe feel good. They always rub in some area or another, usually the heel, and the only comfortable shoe I did have didn't support my arch and after a month, my lower back hurt so much that I hobbled, not realizing it was my comfortable shoes causing it.
so now I'm confused. In another video, you all said not to get shoes with arch supports as this would further weaken the arches. Or did I misunderstand?
My feet are flat without putting weight on them. Lol! I have a rigid shoe and it hurts to walk in them so bad. I can hardly make it anywhere in them. Taking them off is a relief
Bro it is easy to correct through exercise. You just need to put in the time. Stretch every muscle in your body morning AND night. Plantar fasciitis is not a foot problem. It's a tightening of the muscles in your calf which puts more pressure on that plantar fascia. Causing inflammation and pain. Stretch your legs alone (holding stretches for atleast 2 minutes) and you will feel relief within a couple days. Watch "Athlean X plantar fasciitis" on RUclips. The pain in your foot is a symptom not the cause. Shoes only treat the symptom. Remember this.
I disagrww with this. You need a zero drop show with a wide tow box so it can help you supinate your foot and get that muscle strength aback to support the arch that doesn’t exist right now
I have had flat feet all my life, and I have always been noticeably BOWLEGGED, not knock-kneed. (I have never experienced serious knee pain as a result of this, however). About 4 or 5 months ago I started wearing minimalist shoes, making sure to ease into it and not overdo it. The minimalist shoes I wear (Lems, vivobarefoot, etc.) force the muscles in my feet and lower legs to engage when I stand, walk or run. It has noticeably changed my gait so that I no longer walk bowlegged, and I am (slowly) developing arches in my feet. Flat feet are often caused by underdeveloped muscles in the lower-leg and foot. Minimalist shoes help develop them by allowing you feet and ankles to work like they were always meant to. Look into it!
I have very low arches. I just ordered some insoles to help with low arch feet. Should I order sneakers to help with low arches as well or would the insoles work just fine?
i have flat feet (fallen arches) too, its so much hurting when walking but We dont have much money to do a surgery im 15 years old , im doing sports but this issure is a barrier to it
The issue with minimalist shoes, is not the shoes themselves, but people jumping into minimalist running without first transitioning. So when people who've wore foot coffins for most of their lives and try minimalist shoes for the first time, end up with an injury; they blame the shoe. Instead, they look for a quick fix in orthotics. Because heaven forbid we take the time in acknowledging weaknesses in our feet and addressing the issue over an extended period of time.
my daughter had very low arch she was an proffisional badminton player her age was 13 is flat foot people can not be an athelet what to do now is wearing arch support is good or bad

Can you guys do a video for exercises to develop an arch?

Can u name asics modle u find best for flat feet
My cousin got flat feet after being over weight for 5 years. No doctor warned her so that she could get supports. Do a search for DIY silicone supports.
Their intro seriously gets me into every video. 😂
Crocs have saved my flat feet no pain while walking and standing compared to trainers.
My flat feet ruining my life :(
I'm thankful I find you guys on RUclips 👌🏽💯
Bob = Pes Cavus, big time. New Balance 1540 is the best for most flatter feet most of the time, the straight last is important. Too bad they are not being made any more and will be gone when the remaining inventory is gone.
What kind of shoes is that? The rigid one. I have really flat feet.

Another great video my friends and colleagues 🙏❤️😘
👍
Good evening, Let me thank you both for this great information, also for the experiment you showed of the water foot print. 🙋
Thank you guys that was a good one. God bless you both.
Thank. Now I know what to look for shoes type
Thanks! I definitely have a very flat foot.
Have you heared about HyProCure implants?
Benek Benkowski No but I will look it up.
Really helpful guys! Thanks a lot.
Thanks!
I wish they made shoes like that to also look nice for everyday use.
Great advice 👍, for all footwear 🚴🏼♂️
I was one of those patients whose ankle pronated to the floor. I also had severe tibialis tendinitis. The pain was so bad I could only walk on the outer side of that foot. I ended up with a calcaneal osteotomy to rebuild the arch. Unfortunately my orthopedic surgeon never once recommended post surgical PT much less orthotics to keep my arch working right. About a year later though, my chiropractor fitted me for custom orthotics. I wear them constantly with good quality footwear like in this video. My feet feel great 9 years later.
I appreciate your info tremendously 😃 thank you 🙏
Wow. Thanks for this information. Gonna find my fiance indoor/outdoor foot wear for his "flat feet".
Going to a chiropractor and having him adjust your feet can help immensely as well. Yes it's a real thing. Adjusting your feet.
A chiropractor or podiatrist 🧐????Not clowning, I NEED it‼️😭
Have u tried it dost it really work ?
new balance 990 2e wide solves the problem

I always thought I had high arches as when I walk barefoot through water and walk on concrete, my foot looks like a bit like Brad's. BUT I've been told I do have flat feet. 😳
i use motion control and have different insoles... to help my pronation.
I went to the goodfeet store couldn’t afford them they wanted 1500.00 dollars for their insoles an orthotics so my feet are still flat and hurt if I walk a lot so I live with it
Would be helpful to name the exact shoes that help with this. For me, I have found Ascis Kayano w/insole to be helpful
Is there anything a bit cheaper?

Very strange. My left foot is flat and my right foot is average arch. I am wearing rigid shoes and I am having pain in my right foot arch. I was told by the store that I need flexible shoes. I'm so confused :(

I tried the flat foot test and I have an arch but according to my podiatrist I have really flat feet. I get shin splints, pain tightness in my calves. Leg pain
Same
Please help my 9 years has flatfeet.her father also has a fatfeet.with no syptomps only shape.
I've flat foot and I don't even look at Adidas shoes. I've tried them few times but it was too painful for my feet to live with those shoes.
Impeccable timing gents!! I've been meaning to purchase new shoes
My doctor said I had flexible arches. That when I stand on them, they collapse. Got a horrible case of plantar fasciitis.
I have the same. What shoes do you wear?
What kind of shoe do u suggest. I have flat feet, instability and obese so I'm not able to stand on my feet very long. I used to be able to stop for hours with no issues. I'm so tired of my legs, feet and back killing me with shopping maybe an hour.
What?! I've never (except once) had a shoe feel good. They always rub in some area or another, usually the heel, and the only comfortable shoe I did have didn't support my arch and after a month, my lower back hurt so much that I hobbled, not realizing it was my comfortable shoes causing it.
I am neither flat nor arch footed. When I did this test at 04:41 it shows I'm in the middle of your two examples. So what does that mean?
so now I'm confused. In another video, you all said not to get shoes with arch supports as this would further weaken the arches. Or did I misunderstand?
Best jingle ever
flat feat is in our family. ive got flat feet. my boy has flat feet. i cant do any sport.
What is the link for the shoes?
They weren't talking about plantar fascitis. This was about the bone structure and shape of the foot. Didn't you watch the video.. bro?
What do you guys think of KneesOverToesGuy and his idea about helping pronated feet with non-rigid, flat shoes and backwards walking?
Guys please just get with info!! Love y'all but wanna know bout the shoes!!!
Can you give me Amazon link or something to buy those shoes

I have very low arches. I just ordered some insoles to help with low arch feet. Should I order sneakers to help with low arches as well or would the insoles work just fine?
i have flat feet (fallen arches) too, its so much hurting when walking but We dont have much money to do a surgery im 15 years old , im doing sports but this issure is a barrier to it

Very insightful video!
Mine doesn't even touch! My footprints are two separated "foot pieces"😢😢😢😢
What about minimalist shoes? There seems to be a discrepancy on what’s good for runners.
