Great series. Thanks for all info. It's extremely useful
I like that Warne made rings that match the Tract TORIC scope color. I purchased my first TORIC 3X15. The clarity is incredible especially for the price
Thanks bro for the vids. I have been very curious about this hobby all my life. You made it very approachable, now to research more about Sig SSGs 3000
Thanks for great video series, its really helping
X1 conquer is a very good SFP optic. Excellent turrets and legit HD glass. The Arken is a couple levels above the X1. Beautiful optic with amazing tracking and features, and clear huge image 👌
I try not to subscribe willy nilly, but you got me in with just 2 videos. That's a PR for me. Really imparting a lot of knowledge from real experience (there is no substitute). Very clear and easy to follow.. Great work.
thank you sir!

This is the beginning of the video. I love your shirt. Carry on.
very helpful information
I'm blown away. I've been watching some of your videos and the single biggest takeaway is that you're a) not advertising (paid promotion), and b) *demonstrating* that it's very possible to shoot precision, at distance, without blowing every dime possible. Practical. Demonstrated. Real.
Ok, sure, you happen to dig my favorite rifle (the Bergara B-14 HMR in 6.5CM). ;) Even if that wasn't the case, I still subscribed. Looking forward to seeing more of your content!

nice straight forward presentation....on all in this series. most appreciated no mock military machismo... good old fashioned shooting as a personal discipline. Bravo !
Thanks Canadian 👍🏽 all in meters.
Great Video
Greetings from Austria
Glad you enjoyed it!
I had thought of the different scopes and types of scopes you could use and then remembered, the topic here is long range shooting. Mostly target and competition, I think. Of course, long range tactics and gear can be important on a back country hunt for an elk or moose that is on the hill top at 1300 yards. Or hunting in New Zealand, where the average shot in the hills is about 600 to 700 meters. You just have to step your long distance skill.
I am currently reading a book on how to read wind for long range (ELD) competition. No, I am not getting into such a competition. Just interested. Sometimes I read about hot rodding a car without hot rodding mine, just out of intellectual curiosity. In long range shooting, there is wisdom you can use for average whitetail deer hunting, which is my primary concern, at 300 yards and less. Actually, 50 yards, where I hunt.
The advantage of the "low end" of optics is that they are a bit of a crossover in utility or philosophy of use, to borrow from Lt Col Nutnfancy.
I have a Mossberg Patriot .308 Win that I tricked out with a Venom and an MDT chassis and folding stock adapter and SCS buttstock (shout out to your fellow canucks up there, they build some great stuff.) That Mossberg is shooting 1 MOA (primarily because of my average skills) after 60 rounds of letting nothing cool down.
So, now, I have procured another rifle for dragging through the brush and trees to hunt. And the consideration there is quality of glass and utility versus weight. These bigger scopes at 34 mm tubes and 56 mm objective bells are weighing in at over 2 pounds. And that is okay on a bench or mat rifle. In fact, in F Class, your weight limit is 18 pounds. So, you build the rifle and put on the biggest scope that captures so much light because that is how you catch mirage. then you can add some weight and still be within the competition limits.
I totally agree on the cry once, buy once. So, it depends. If you are going to compete for money, then the high dollar optics is right and that is what you put on your rig. For example, in my little town, we have one stop sign and 4 churches. And a custom gunsmith who can build you a rifle from the ground up. A case of where, if you have to ask how much it costs, then you cannot afford it. But you discuss with the guy what round it is you are going to use. The weight and muzzle velocity because that is going to determine twist rate and barrel length and even barrel type.
Then an action that mates to that. And then, it is set in a stock. Either you get one you already like or they build you one, from scratch, by hand. And they can install your optic and get it relatively zeroed until you get there to zero it to yourself.
Then, I could see spending on a Steiner or a Schmidt & Bender. Or a Nightforce or US Optics.
It reminds me of the old mechanic's question. Speed is a matter of money. How fast do you want to go?
I have a 125$ center point from Walmart that tracks great and holds zero! If all you can afford is a cheap scope get it. I learned a lot of messing with cheap scopes! The trick is to bring it home level it and test the tracking if it doesn’t track right bring it back and swap it out I have found one out of three or so will work fine and I’ve killed a lot of game out to 300 yards with cheap scopes and of coarse a seven hundred dollar scope is on another level but for beginners the cheap ones will get you shooting and learning!
Thanks for the video, really interesting. One thing I'd like to know are your recommendations for FFP or SFP? I have both and tend to use the FFP on centerfire at longer distances and the SFP on a 457 MTR at 100-300M. What's your opinion?
You can buy a spuhr mount for the tikka with 20-45 moa 👍
Thanks!

Another great presentation. Thanks very much. Once I have my firearm license approved for my most recent rifle purchase, I will be fitting an Element Optic to it. Maybe even use the Element rings, if not it will be good old reliable Warne.

@@larrydecker881 Thanks Larry!
Hi GTM are you in canada as well? How did you get your Arken? TIA
@@moshevivas Hey friend, actually I'm just a few miles south in Minnesota.
Start with determination of power need based on the nature of target. For example, the 44-inch bullseye of a 1000-yard NRA target is big enough that a consistent sight picture can be realized from iron sights. Now, if your target is a golf ball at 1000 yards, you will need enough power to find the target as well as get recognition of a consistent sight picture. A fixed 10 power scope could satisfy this need when the target stands out in contrast from its background but with that or more power hits are still not assured since the golf ball subtends at about 1/8th MOA at 1000 yards, meaning unless you are shooting a laser, hits are unlikely. In fact, even when shooting from a system which delivers 1/4 min results at 100 yards, it is only going to deliver about 1MOA (10-inch groupings) at 1000 yards, as fired by an accomplished marksman. One more thing, with increased magnification, mirage can make the target appear to be dancing, as well as cause recognition of body wobble, even from a position that is solid. These realities will distract a beginning shooter enough to pull the trigger poorly in an attempt at "catching" the aiming point. That's not good, since it prevents desired result, and thwarts follow-through whereby shot call and bullet strike corollary can serve shooter/target analysis. The bottom-line on all of this is the Long Range beginner would be smart to get some basic marksmanship training before buying into a perception of what sort of equipment is needed to get the best results at Long-Range. A great start is available from the Civilian Marksmanship Program. They host the United States Army Marksmanship Unit's Small Arms Firing School, a 3 day Civilian Marksmanship Event held annually at the end of July at Camp Perry, OHIO. Instruction and coaching here is delivered by the best Military Shooters on the planet. The training concludes with an Army authorized M16 Excellence In Competition Match whereby shooters placing in top10 percent get 4 points toward the 30 needed to earn the prestigious US Distinguished Rifleman Award.
As to rings, I love "WARNE" heavy but solid and middle of the road price👍🇺🇲
Can you try and do a review on crimson trace brushline pro 6-24x50 sfp new scope on the mark and we the people trust you to do a great review on it
Would be nice to hear which make/model you didn't want to name. Would personally like to avoid wasting money on it if I were to buy it by chance. I noticed this was the first video I've watched where the majority were in MOA, not MILS. I know there are lots of videos out there explaining the difference, but would be interested to hear your take and why you are usually using MILS. What do you see as the benefits and would you recommend having all my scopes in either MIL or MOA, or is having a mix on different rifles not as confusing as it sounds? Also, you mentioned spending at least $300 CAD to work between 10-200 m. For my hunting rifle I bought a Vortex Copperhead 4-12x44 SFP and have been very happy shooting paper between 400-600 yards although it doesn't have accessible turrets. Even covered in snow near dusk the glass seems pretty amazing (maybe relative to the not-so-great optics my grandpa had on the gun, lol). It was only $130 USD when I picked. It's good enough for hunting, but what would make it unsuitable for precision shooting (besides the turrets)?
The whole explosion of elr shooting is insane. Honestly i consider 500 yards long range. I understand people out in Montana shooting game at 600 yards but geez.
It seems like a (successful) 600 yard shot on a game animal is a good shooter, but the hunting skills need work.
You can almost always get closer.
@@clintcannon1902 indeed. Yeah i normally (when I hunted) tried to get about 50 to 100 yards to take a shot. I was just suggesting that people out in the plains shooting game at much longer distances
@@non-binaryjesus I think we agree that paper sheets and live deer are different targets. I don't like to shoot beyond 200 yards on anything that I want to wrap in freezer paper.

What scope would you choose between the sig sauer tango4 6-24x50, the arken ep5 5-25x56 or the vortex strike eagle 5-25x56. Note that in Denmark they are all sold at the same price around 1000 USD ? and great videos bye the way👍
what to say... I liked it.
The two things that I'm really looking for in an optic are whether or not it's nitrogen purged, and whether it has multi-coated lenses (to prevent scope glint/glare).
hi Zombie Slayer, even the cheapest optics claim fully multicoated, so its not something i can use for reference in reviews or comparisons. When it comes to higher end optics I'm usually trying to find out what factory made the optic, (the company is irrelevant) for mid level optics I usually try to find out what type if glass they are using, schott, ED a combination of ED and HD. Hoya glass.
Argon purging allows for a lower temperature tolerance
Have you tried any optics from Osprey Global? I have an older version and so far I like it. But I have limited experience with scopes.
The furthest I shot with a red dot .22lr is 303yds but it took a lot of rounds to make it
My beginner setup to LRS is as follows
Savage axis 2 precision 6.5
Arken sh4 6-24x50
Warne scope rings
Magpul bipod
I would love to hear everyone's opinion on my setup..Love the channel keep up the good work.
Hi Richard glad you are enjoyijg the channel! a savage axis 2, lacks in the refined details that the say 110 precision has, for example a nice trigger. Generally speaking things arent as perfect in terms of the minor details, often those are the things that drive up the cost significantly. The only thing i would do to the savage is upgrade thr creepy trigger. Warne rings i hear are a good company, then again almost any paire of rings around 70$+ will be fine. In terms of optics i think you coudnt have choosen a better value optic those Arkens IMO are underpriced. The only thing that I would upgrade would be the bipod at some point if you really like shooting off bipods compared to sand bags. Personally I really like the Cadex falcon lite (its expensive) but the Atlas bipod is a close second and an excellent choice. Make sure you get the spike feet so you can preload the bipod. Anyway you have a very good setup have fun!
@@EpikArms thanks for replying and keep making more videos.
@@EpikArms A great breakdown, but doesn't the AXIS 2 have an AccuTrigger (the only real difference between the AXIS and AXIS 2)? I would have thought that'd help alleviate your trigger concerns, or did Savage use an inferior AccuTrigger compared to the 110?
I’d do a howa 1500 barreled action with a chassis I bought mine 800 brand new second owner and a apc chassis used off gunpost for $500 shoots amazing and has a great trigger for being stock
I own Tract, Arken, Vortex and Trijicon. I regret spending $1800 on Tract. To me Arken provides the best value. I have my Tract for sale. It's in mint condition.
Im curious on swampfox optics have you or will you do any reviews on those?
Bought my forth Arken yesterday. After code. $350 delivered.
Wow thats a amazing price!
Vortex diamondback great sub 300 dollar scope that can adequately get you 1000yd shots
Thank you for review. Purchased the Athlon midas tac 6-24x50 after watching your review for my Anschutz 1416 . Rifle has MDT 20moa pic rail , would you rec MDT elite rings med height or something else? CHEERS
Hi, MDT make great rings, personally I would just stick with their MDT Premier rings, especially for a rimfire the additional fastening from a 6 screws (compared to a 4) is unnecessary, but obviously wont hurt.
Why no mention of the Arken EP5 5-25-56mm?
What’s your thoughts on Nightforce optics?
Sold my tikka t3x lite stainless 223 for a t3x varmint stainless 6,5x55 with a 60cm barrel.
Putting it in a grs berserk stock and an Arken Optics EPL4 4-16x44 on it. Will this siffice as a beginner long range gun with factory fmj?
IVE heard the Arken EP 5 has good glass
If money’s no object the March Genesis with some of the best glass in the world and 400moa of internal adjustment is the way forward.
So there is no huge difference between $1000 and $2000 dollars scopes? Tested Nightforce NX8 vs Zero Compromise ZC527. I saw a huge difference in the glass clarity.
The down side with optics is you can't build it little by little like you can with a rifle. Even the "budget" optics aren't within a lot of peoples budget. some of us live check to check. I would love to see a company do something like acre gold, send money once a month or week and at the end you get a nice optic.
Here's an upside for you. buy a match conditioned commercial equivalent of the M16-A4 and shoot it in US Service Rifle Competitions, including Long-Range. No scope needed.
Isn't that basically saving your money until you can purchase what you want, only later?
I'd be curious about what you think of Meopta's Optika 6 line of scopes. Meopta is a Czech company that does OEM glass for companies like Zeiss, but they also sell scopes under their own brand for pretty reasonable prices. From what I've heard, the Optika 6 line is supposed to have glass quality superior to Vortex and more comparable to Zeiss, Nightforce, or Leupold for anywhere between $600-$1,250 depending on what features you want. I'd be curious to get your opinion on them and how their glass is compared to the scopes you recommended here.
I haven't personally used their optic, I have no experience with them

Do you recommend the Titan over the Athlon ares btr gen 2? I’m surprised the other Athlon’s didn’t make the list. Like the helos btr and the midas tac. Do you think they fill that gap between the sh4 and titan?
Athlon makes some really nice optics.
Canted rail isn't quite as important as you made it out to be. It doesn't hurt but not a must have. for example bushnell forge has 50 MOA(14,5MRAD) of internal adjustment and lets say you zero it middle of that range at 100m. You still have 25MOA/7,25MRAD left. With my 223 load, that is enough adjustment for shooting out to 725m (bullet goes sub sonic at 800m). I personally don't have that kind of range to shoot but you get the idea. The Forge seems to be quite bad example because most other offerings for example from vortex have 85 MOA and up. in same rifle as mentioned before(half of the max), that would be enough to almost 1000m, well beyond the effective range of that round.
Love your videos but thought that wasn't quite as important
Yes, and shooting .223 from iron sight service rifle to 1000 yards my come up from 600 yard zero is just 3 revs of my front sight, each click worth 1.2 MOA. A flat base, when shooting most any scope having a 30mm main tube, will easily get an 80 grain VLD to 1000-yard point of aim from about 40 MOA of elevation adjustment from 100 yard zero.
In my opinion american rifle company make the best rings and mounts on the market
For my optic, I went with a Burris 5x25 ($800 USD) with illuminated reticle. Seems to have a battery drain issue since it has killed two batteries with little use. All the reviews I have seen, said it is a good optic but it makes me wonder about those insane Thermal long range $2000 optics. How much better are they? Is thermal vision a game changer? I know the theory but lack the experience.
hi Timehero, i have no experience with thermals

h Mohamad, that depends on the specific rifle it will go on. for example somethin like a remington 700. or a tikka t3x will me MDT premier 34mm Medium height. now if you en with something like a ruger rpr you would need high rings

Hello is it possible to find the range with paralax with a reasonable priced FFP scope up to 200m? I am wondering can it be used for PCP airguns for accurately estimating ranges.
using the Focus Parallax yes there are other who do it this way, you will need to tape the parallax and mark through marking your distances.
would you recommend the vortex diammondback tactical 5-24x50 as an ultra budget scope or as a comparable option to the arken sh-4 ?
I would go with the Arken, everything is better, more internal adjustment, zero stop, if i recall better glass. Dont get me wrong the vortex diamondback tactical is a good scope, but there are currently better options available
@@EpikArms do you know a place in Canada where the Arken is sold ? The Diamondback Tactical is currently selling at 570$ where the Arkens seem to be at 700$
You should show some love to the Burris optics company, preferably XTR 2, XTR 3, and the newest XTR Pro. Not crazy affordable but on par with some of the scopes you review! Feedback would be nice.
Just bought a axis 2 precision 6.5 creedmoor and i'm new to the sport. Looking to spent 1000$ to 1500$ CAD for a scope and want to do long range shooting. What's the best scope i can buy for my rifles?
