Great looking old rig nice to see a good classic getting some love hope to hear it on the air one day used to hear quite a few old Royce radios they always sounded great
These radios are really good. I just bought one for my dad. It was the first base radio he ever had. His original radio went down and was unable to be fixed. I bought it for sentimental value. He was speechless.
Matt, once more you have demonstrated the amazing technician you are with older and newer radios. Really enjoy seeing you work from your bench. Also, you can really tell the difference when you change the microphones. 😊😊😊😊
Wow! The audio response on that mic is excellent! So much audio on sideband too. Back in the day , ROYCE and Pearce Simpson were top of the line. The receive is fantastic love the time you took with it. Really amazing
Geeze, what memories this brings back for me! I LOVED THIS RADIO! ***THANKS FOR POSTING THIS GREAT RADIO/ VIDEO! I had this modified back when I bought this in NYC during the MID- LATE 70's and after the mod the clarifier was unlocked, and it was opened up for TX down to 25.800 and TX up into the 10M band, but usually hung out on "triple nickle", lol 27.555. Talked all over the world with just 12 or so watts, and a Wilson Y-quad not more than 25 feet high! Hey I was in my teens and knew very little about antenna height, watts and especially how "sunspots" worked back in the day. I was lucky to have been on 11 meters during Sunspot Cycle 21, Now I am KD6SBR, and operate HF daily with a lot more radio and power, lol. I loved CB and the people I had Talked with in the past. Although I am now a ham operator, I NEVER PUT DOWN CB OR ITS USERS! After all, CB got me started in this great hobby. Take it ez, Tom in NV
Matt that turned out great. Can't wait to get it on the air! The mic is certainly an improvement. Guys I just want to say it's worth the wait to have Matt do the work on your radio. Everything is first class. Thanks for doing this video!
Hit with a tsunami of nostalgia on this video. The Royce line of radios were one of my favorites, back in the day. Have never seen a final blown and baked that bad! That Royce shall now rule for another 40 years. 👍💪👊👊 😑🦗
Those mics are pretty darn good for a cheap mic I have one that I used to use on stock non tuned radios and with an adapter they work well on the President radios as well
@@TheRadioGarage you’re welcome I still think the road devil sounds a little better but that may just be because that radio wasn’t tuned by you The testing that I did when I had the McKinley showed the Procom had more bass than the road devil and the switch has never needed the cleaning and lubing that the newer road devil needed to not be scratchy but at the end of the day it’s what do you prefer as the end user
The older CB radios seem to sound better. The Uniden AX144 I had sounded fantastic for recieve and transmit. I had it tweaked back in the day. Needs recapping now, and pwr meter has seized.
Im a firm believer you buy a new radio there's a wait time Truck cb has a wait time on a new mod radio 6 to 8 weeks sometimes longer BUT....... well worth the F en wait you get a awesome unit so if you do awesome work which the radio garage does f en AWESOME work its worth the wait!!! PERIOD! BOTTOM line!!!
The stock mic. showed a 50-60-Hz. hum... You may want to check the caps in the power supply? Maybe it was another device turned on close by that was picking up the hum? The power mic. had less of a hum but it was still there. It may be a ground problem/polarity issue? Sounded like a flock of swallows in the background on SSB? I hope all your test equipment is thoroughly grounded? I wouldn't want that base there's a definite hum.. I can hear it in the background..

Very nice radio, Great job Matt on bringing it back to life!!! The Procomm mic is a good fit for that radio sounds awesome. ❤

Right on! 👍💯
I have quite a collection of Royce and Pearce Simpson radios. The PS Super Lynx sold for $285 in 1975 which is about $1600 in today's money.
