I love how they took such s love for their cows that they decided not to do beef with the cows . Meaning they don't send their cows off to the Feed lot and slaughterhouse. So awesome . My favorite farmers right here .

A neighbour has a gaggle of these up the highway from me. Very friendly, have mastered the knack of bumming for treats from the horses (they know I always have a stash of apples and carrots). They raise them to be pets on hobby farms.

I have direct bloodlines back to Yancey County,nc in the 1700's. I have jones ancestors buried at snow creek area up by nc/ va border. Lots of my scotch/ irish ancestors settled up in hillsides of western nc before migrating across the western nc blue ridge hills settling in northeast Tennessee by Johnson city and jonesborough areas by the 1770 to 1780's.
Love the highland breed of cows. Wouldn't mind buying a cow or two from you all when I move back to hawkins county,tn to look after my elderly dad. One of my best friends growing up back there he owns a farm.

Thx 4 sharing guys. I fell in❤ with Highland Cattle when l was about 9-10 yrs old. I am almost 63.
Understand they would e hard 2 slaughter because they r like part of the family. There meat so l am informed by reliable sources is excellent.
I dont have a farm which is disappointing.
Last year l found another breed that l hadn't heard or seen b4. A all white Cattle from Italy. Think it was Tuscany or Piedmont region. And the meat has next 2 know fat. Also a gr8 look'in beast. Enjoy ur Wooly Rugs on 4 legs. 👌👍

Unfortunately, when we visited from Louisiana one year, I asked where was Bessy?
My uncle told me, in his thick, slow drawl, 'tharl she is on the taaaabbble, and the rest of her is over to the frrreeezzzerrr'
I was Horrified!
I knew farmers raised animals for food. Men in my family hunted in order to feed their families.
But eating an animal you named seemed 🤔 so horrible to me!
In my mind, if you developed a relationship and named an animal, it becomes a member of the family!
I understand y'all not choosing to raise those beautiful Highland cattle to give them a good home, and selling only to hobby farmers.
I refused to eat Bessie.
I am an omnivore, no way could I be vegetarian or vegan..😊

Been watching ranching and farming videos for the past few months and have taken such a appreciation and like for cows. They are so gentle and curious and have their personalities. I would love to have a farm full of them . I would sit out and just watch them graze and love ever minute of it

i have raised cattle most of my life and i bought my first highland bull in 1976 if i remember right, from Ez Braun, followed by 2 highland heifers in 78, from NH and VT, and i have raised many other breeds of cattle along with the highlanders since then to the present, and the highlanders have always been my favorite. However, the highlanders do not sell well here in southern Illinois. I got started raising cattle because my father raised a dairy cow when i was young which was milked, mostly by me, to provide milk for our family of 7 kids in the late 50's, 60's, 70's, then all beef after that. I still raise about 6 head of highlanders, not registered, even though i am a member of the AHCA. I love the way highland cattle look, move, graze and handle. The only thing i do not like about highland cattle are fly strike with new born calves in summer. I also love the horns on highland cattle. The other cattle that i raise are a mix of highland, chianina, romagnola, marchigiana, piedmontese, and they all have horns as well. So, since i only raise a few cattle, due to only having a few acres, i suppose i am just a "hobby" farmer, but i am content with that.

I like mostly all breeds of cows. However these Highlands are so awesome. I would love to have some Highland and Jersey cows. And the Jerseys not for the milk but for how cute they are , especially as calfs .As calves the Jersey cows look like deer sometimes
