I might argue that the sheer exhilaration of rashly putting something together, then backtracking and refining, making improvements based on theory without ever confirming operation or discovering flaws practically, completing a project from start to finish in isolation from reality and having it miraculously work perfectly is almost worth it
there are like two times this has happened while coding for me and I'm still coming off the high

Why spend time at fixing something even waste money and time making it modern when the quality if the item is nothing compared to the modern ones. Simple wifi camera costs way cheaper and second hand ones even cheaper but have better quality. So what’s the point of this anyways ? 😂

I'm doing engineering now, and repair everything from phones to lawnmowers semi professionally and as a hobby and I find that it is the random projects like this that contribute the most to actual problem solving and creative ability. Do something pointless, it's good for the brain

The video quality of the barbie camera oozes nostalgia. Everything immediately feels like the 90's. This was really an amazing and inspirational build. Now you just need to add an IR LED or two for some low-fi "night vision"
I also never heard of those mini DVRs, definitely something to check out.
