    Two things:
    1) You were right about item management being due to technical limitations. Basically, *so* much was shoved into that puny N64 cartridge that they didn't have enough room to keep up with everything. So, only a handful of event flags were programmed into the game and the rest is reset whenever time is turned back. That's why in some sidequests Tatl says the same exact lines upon multiple playthroughs and why things like the number of arrows or bombs can't be kept up with. That's ALSO why it's so easy to restock outside of Clock Town, the developers knew this would be the case so offered that as a quick fix.
    2) The data limitation is ALSO the reason why you can't save anywhere. In fact, saving at the Owl Statues? That's a North American version invention, the original Japanese version had the Song of Time as the ONLY way to save the game. You ever wonder why Majora's Mask only had two save slots? That's why, the amount of storage space it took to TEMPORARILY suspend your game at an Owl Statue left the game with not enough room for a full three files.
    Not trying to change your mind of the game and your complaints are valid even if I don't necessarily agree with all of them, I just thought you'd appreciate an explanation for some of these quirks... a full year later, at any rate.

      Guess that's a consequence of the game originally being planned for the disc drive that never got off the ground. Perhaps Nintendo should've made N64's with cd's from the start. Would've been a little slower to load but at least they would've had more space, and developers wouldn't have flocked to the Ps1 nearly as aggressively.

    @anintendofankindaguy1368 6 лет назад +401

    As a huge Majora's Mask fan, I was surprised about how many of your complaints I agreed with. I guess I just like what the game does right so much that I can look past its flaws, and that's why I love it despite agreeing that these things bring it down a notch. One thing I did heavily disagree with you on, though, is the dungeons.
    I do agree that Woodfall Temple is a solid dungeon. Not really that special, just pretty good. The next 3 are where our differences arise.
    I think Snowhead Temple is amazing for its focus on navigation and spacial puzzles (this is something I'll get back to in the next dungeons as well). Think of your average 3D Zelda dungeon - something like OoT's Deku Tree or Dodongo's Cavern. Its strong point is usually the puzzles, right? But those puzzles are almost always contained to their own rooms. You go into a room, solve a puzzle, and leave. Don't get me wrong, I love these dungeons, but I think MM's way was so much deeper and more intriguing. Instead of solving individual puzzles one by one, the dungeon _is_ the puzzle. You have to figure out how to get from place to place, what raising and lowering the central pillar causes, etc. The later dungeons capitalize on this principle, which is what I'll get to next.
    Now, while Great Bay Temple isn't my favorite dungeon in the game and can be frustrating at times, I still think it's great. It takes the concept of "the whole dungeon is one big puzzle" that Snowhead Temple introduced and simply makes it better. It really makes you think hard to try and understand the inner workings of the dungeon. I found memorizing all the paths and figuring out the effects of the big levers and of the water flow's direction very enjoyable.
    But what Great Bay Temple took to the next level, Stone Tower Temple took to the max. It's the culmination of everything I love about these dungeons, and is probably my favorite Zelda dungeon ever. Yes, the quests before it are tedious, and yes, flipping the temple upside-down is too (which I'm surprised you didn't complain about). But I prefer to look past that, because Stone Tower Temple is just. So. _Good_. First you have to go through the dungeon like any other Zelda dungeon, but then you get the light arrows and you flip it upside-down, and that's when the magic happens. You now have to look around the dungeon, trying to wrap your head around the new layout and where each of the rooms you remember is, and the numerous "wait, this is that place with the (blank) from before" moments it provides are incredible. It really feels like one big puzzle, and I think it's easily the deepest and most thought-provoking dungeon I've ever encountered in a Zelda game.
    ...Regardless, I'm one of the 12 or so people in the world who like OoT's Water Temple (for similar reasons as these dungeons), so maybe most people just don't like this dungeon style like I do, and that's fine. I'm just trying to express why _I_ personally think MM's dungeons are excellent, so hopefully I was able to provide a bit of insight.
    Finally, if it wasn't clear, I liked this video a lot, it was very fair (although I do think you could've gone into more detail about what your exact grievances with the dungeons are, but that's a bit of a nitpick), and unlike some other videos like this, the "I don't like this game but it's fine if you do" sentiment felt like something you actually believed rather than something that was forced into the video so people don't get mad. Kudos for striking that balance.

      Let's not forget fairies added depth to these dungeons. Not only did you have to solve puzzles for a new room but you also had to put on the fairie mask to see if it reacts to the room. It added more stress if you consider beating the dungeon, collecting fairies and time. I remember beating the Stone Tower Temple during the night of the 3rd day because of it. Besides the temples the gold Skulltula sidequest were really good puzzles too I might add.

    • @WildDogGamerBoy

      That is the one thing that killed this game for me. I had to restart the entire Zora eggs quest which is required to go into this area's temple when I was only an egg away from completing it, I had to do both Snowhead and Great Bay temples twice because of this BS. I reached the point the game felt like chore, aggravating and anger inducing. I was about to give up because I was filled with so much anger. I hate when a game makes me repeat myself and punishes me just for the sake of a gimmick instead of me doing something wrong (like Dark Souls for example). I only completed it just so I can have the right to say I beat it and to be able to criticise the game. Out of Zelda games this is the one I despise the most. I rather play Skyward Sword than this. I am not saying Majora's Mask didn't have its moments but the negatives definitely surpassed the positives. Which is why out of all Zelda games, this is THE ONE game in the franchise I refuse to revisit.

    • @mattm2975
      @mattm2975 6 лет назад +18

      There's basically no time limits in this game if you can use your brain. You only have one day left to do a dungeon? Hit the owl statue outside the dungeon and reset time. Teleport back and slow down time. Then you got plenty of time and should be able to complete any dungeon with like a day and a half to spare unless you're completely incompetent at the game. I hate when people make this argument when they shit on the game. It's not the game design that's the problem, you just have terrible time management.

    • @mattm2975
      @mattm2975 6 лет назад +11

      @@WildDogGamerBoy Like I said in a comment before this, it's your time management that's the issue. Never do anything major without rewinding time first. You're doing a dungeon? Rewind time then slow down time and teleport to the owl statue outside the dungeon. You're doing the Zora egg quest? Do the same thing. It's not that the game is flawed, you're just bad at the game. And I was bad at the game too on my first playthrough since I also had time management problems. I think Majora's Mask is the best 3D Zelda game, and this is coming from a non-nostalgic standpoint since I played it later in my life. But hey, that's just my opinion. I think if you went back and played the game now, you would appreciate it a lot more than you did on your first playthrough.

    • @konkonart7128

      A hard or soft time limit?
      Some games use a 'hard' time limit where time continuously flow a la 1 minute irl = 1 hour in game like the Dead Rising series or Majora's mask. This makes the player constantly aware of the deadline and the game is just as much fighting against the clock as it is fighting whatever it is on screen. Lots of players complain about this system for good reason, it is really restrictive and places a certain type of stress on the player that never really goes away, the tension is always there without any way to unwind.
      A 'soft' time limit is when a game has a deadline, but that deadline is not dictated by the amount of time that passes irl. Think the Persona series, times of day passes as the player chooses certain actions/activities that fills the time slot. While there is a 'time limit' it is really an action limit, the player can idle the game on a single day for hours at a time and the game will not progress unless the player confirms an action or the game auto passes time. 'Soft' time limit games tend to be way more forgiving when it comes to deadlines.
      Both systems work around scheduling sequence of events to happen in a particular order in order to create the desired result.
      That said I do think Majora's mask works very well with stricter 'hard' time limit systems, it isn't supposed to be 'fun' in the traditional sense. You the player is supposed to feel a sense of dread and stress at the end of the world. Similar to Spec Ops the Line, it isn't a 'fun' game but a meaningful one.

    @Radien 6 лет назад +10

    Hey there. I just wanted to make a non-aggressive post about why many of us are bothered less by the number of nearly useless masks.
    Heck, one-use masks aren't the only nearly useless rewards. I've ALWAYS been irritated by heart pieces in the Zelda series, since it takes so long to get a full heart container that the payoff is almost intangible... and with only four bosses from which to earn full heart containers, there are a LOT of heart pieces to fill out Link's meter.
    Heart pieces are more useful in Majora than in Ocarina, owing to the higher difficulty, but not by much. Surviving in Majora's Mask is still MUCH easier than Breath of the Wild.
    So, what do you get for doing all these quests, and why doesn't it bother me so much?...
    Most other Zelda games reward your progress with items, skills, spells, health/magic/stamina upgrades, and access to new areas. Majora's Mask, on the other hand, is the *only* Zelda game (by my count) where the primary reward is always *story.*
    Unlike any other Zelda game, all of the NPCs are on a set schedule, looping within the three days. Whereas Breath of the Wild gives us peeks into the lives of Hyrule's residents leading up to the Calamity, Majora's Mask gives the unique experience of seeing the days leading up to the Moon's fall over the shoulders of a couple dozen background characters.
    This was a risky strategy, because in order for story to be a sufficient reward, it needs to be a GOOD story, or at least a decent one. That's why I don't begrudge you at all if it didn't satisfy you. The Zelda series (and heck, games in general) have conditioned us to expect tangible rewards for completing optional quests. If you felt the story was not strong enough to act as a substitute reward, that is a perfectly valid perspective.
    I'm sorry it wasn't more satisfying for you. I'm curious what you think of collecting Link's memories in Breath of the Wild. :)

      The side quests are not a bad idea per se but my main issue is that in order to figure out everyone's schedules, you gotta follow them around and wait. And wait. And wait. Sometimes they just stay in a placw until that place closes or whatever but you don't know that at first. So you wait. And there is no way to make time go by faster. You can only skip ahead but that doesnt guarantee you won't miss anything the character does in the meantime

    Overall I agree with your message that the prime audience for this game is completionists. The sidequests are more fun than the main game and that's the reality of it.
    We don't collect the other useless masks just for Fierce Deity, we do it because the quests behind getting those are content with more gripping stories and emotion than anything else available at the time.
    The save system in Ocarina of Time was actually incredibly obnoxious. When you saved you would either load at your house in Kakariko, the Temple of Time, or the beginning of your dungeon. That was an obnoxious amount of progress lost and while Majora's Mask 3 day system made you completely start over, at least the owl statues loaded you in to where you actually saved.
    There is no punishment for losing in this game. To death, sure, but if you run out of time, the game resets you back in front of the Mask Salesman as if you had played the song. Therefore you didn't need to save your progress constantly, that's your own problem.

    • @mozardthebest
      @mozardthebest 5 лет назад +13

      Dragoon778 It really isn't that bad in Ocarina of Time, as all of the progress you made is still saved, all the items, heart pieces and story segments, all of those are saved.
      If anything I see starting back Link's home or the Temple of Time as just a minor inconvenience. The lost woods near Link's home has two major shortcuts to Goron City (from there you can get to Death Mountain and Kakariko Village) and Zora's River (from there you can get to Zora's domain, and from Zora's Domain you can use a shortcut to get to Lake Hylia).
      As for starting from the Temple of Time as an adult...well, between Epona and the warp songs, going through Hyrule is essentially a non-issue.
      But the point is, saving your progress in Ocarina of Time is very simple and straightforward. Maybe you can only start from a few locations, but that's increasingly less of an issue as you progress through the game.

    Don't worry, man. You got good points here. The saving method is indeed terrible. I've had numerous issues with teleportation (owl), and the game would just freeze, so all that was done got lost.
    Regardless of that, I personally loved MM. Specially because of the side quests.
    Yes, I love side quests. And in this game, they had great space. Even tough we don't have much use of all the masks, to me, the fun is in the process, not the goal.
    I lost count of how many thrills I had throughout the game whenever I've discovered something new in the side quests. It was so much fun learning about all the characters, their routines, their schedules, etc. Specially because they were almost all from OOT. So it was also so much fun remembering them.
    Also, the spookiness of this game was beyond amazing, it gave me chills, the soundtrack was something.
    It just marked my childhood, both OOT and MM. 🌹

    Here's the way I see it. I love it for its own reasons. It's got flaws, mainly the waiting around and losing money and consumables. I also didn't enjoy a lot of the dungeons. But the reason I think it's remembered so fondly is because it captured an atmosphere that very few other games had. I think it's most redeeming quality is how well thought out the world is. Tiny things change over time. The whole feel of the game is just so unsettling and creepy, and it keeps that fever dream vibe the whole way through.
    It wasn't perfect, but even now, no other game has done something remotely similar. I think it's not remembered and loved for its perfection, but rather for it's atmosphere and writing. Compared to the other Zelda games, I still think it's got the best story and characters compared to the other ones.

    Good video, Craig. Really, I am a _gigantic_ fan of MM, but I can recognize you were fair with a whole bunch of the flaws, because I'm a special case: I first played it when I was 20 years old on Project64, so I had savestates to work with. That takes out pretty much all the troubles of saving and dungeon railroading in the game. And yes, the inability to communicate and alter events based on the info you already got in previous cycles was kinda dumb and irritated me quite a bit, as was the whole mask switcheroo in several areas.
    The only thing I really disagree with is that the time is a bad thing. I like the idea of a living, breathing, busy world far more than a series of scattered events that have to wait for His Majesty Player Character to trigger the switch for them to happen. (Incidentally, I think the saving system in the N64 original was wonky because there is so much stuff happening that the game must keep track of, so a save right at the spot with the technology they had would make it real easy to glitch the scripted events. MM was hella ambitious for the hardware the devs had at their disposal.)

I even have a half sleeve tattoo with majoras mask and other zelda related content. With that being said - I completely agree with EVERYTHING you just touched on in this video, but keep in mind this game was created using Ocarina of Time's assets and models, in just a year due to such strict deadlines.. With me, I played the original when I was much younger, and this was at a time where there was really no reason to dislike the game mechanics. I always just took it as it was without a second thought. Now, the 2nd time I played the game, was when I was quite a bit older, and played the version on 3DS, which I immediately realized the changes for the better, but also a couple other things that were different and disappointing to me. For example, swimming as Zora link in N64 didn't consume magic power unless you specifically used the magic attack. In the 3DS remake, the fast swimming forced the magic attack as well. Having come out for the same console with similar gameplay and look, it is natural to compare OoT and MM. I hated OoT and think it is vastly overrated, whereas I loved MM. Zelda games are supposed to throw you into a world and let you explore to your heart's content, not have *Hey* some stupid *Hey* fairy telling you *Hey listen* where to *Hey* go every five *Hey listen* seconds.

    As someone that grew up without internet and with only 4 games on the N64, Majora's Mask being one of them, I can safely say there are a lot of things objectively wrong with this game, all which you did mention in this video. I found out after going through the whole game again just a few months ago that Majora's Mask is best enjoyed on a second playthrough when you know what has to be done and when so you can schedule yourself and go on through with it, reaching maximum efficiency.
    Then again, it shouldn't be like that.
    What I like about this game is both the story and atmosphere, no other Zelda game to this day (15/6/21) has even come close to it with the exception of maybe Twilight Princess. Still, a dark Zelda game like Majora's Mask done today could potentially be the second best Zelda game ever (No one is beating Ocarina as the best)

    I think the time mechanic is absolutely brilliant in making the world feel like a real place. Games that give npcs schedules will never feel as real because it makes no sense that they do the exact same things every day or week, but it makes sense if it’s just a span of 3 days. It’s even better that there are many missable events, that can and will happen without you. These kinds of things CANNOT happen in normal games, but the 3 day mechanic makes it possible. Stumbling upon some weird event in a game feels fake because it waits for you. In Majora’s Mask finding a special quest or event like the dancing ghost on the rock outside of the town only on the first night at a certain time, or old lady getting robbed by Sackon feels special. The biggest problem is that MM doesn’t utilize the time mechanic enough imo.

That, and playing as a good guy, you want to help people. So while a lot of aspects of the game were hard to enjoy, (ie, not figuring out a dungeon quick enough, so you have to go back and start the whole thing over again -.- ) the story was wonderful, and even if many of the masks were useless for a lot of things, they were still cool little tokens to remind you that you helped someone. That's just my opinion, though.

      Describing Majora's Mask as a naive and infantile attempt at a sequel is what I find mind blowing, when it was a lot more mature than OoT, though you probably weren't refering to that. To be honest, even when Oot was my favourite game I felt there was no texture (which is weird for a kid) and the narrative was never as gripping to me as MM's was, like, I wasn't playing because I wanted to save Hyrule, I just wanted to finish the game with my own hands, a challenge... none of this took the epic factor away from the game, but in MM I really wanted to save Clock Town and Termina, and all of the people living there. Both games greatly affected my life, and maybe Ocarina of Time was what got me into gaming, but Majora's Mask allowed me to appreciate videogames as an art form.

    Majoras mask is definitely in my G.O.A.T gaming list. One of my top 3 favorites in the LoZ series. I think part of the reason for that is because of all the tedious tasks and quests for masks that it entails. I'm one of those "completionists," a title I won't mind toting around; I mention it, because I suppose wanting to complete the bomber book helps keep my interest through the 3 day lull. OoT was never able to keep my attention past collecting the triforce an activating the temple of time. The adult time line and collecting the sages is boring and tedious to me. Though it's most peoples favorite LoZ and I have finished it and respect it, the story line is definitely better than majoras mask, by far. I just find more joy in being able to throw on masks, and use different items. The versatility is what gets me I guess. Though, I will say, even though I appreciate it having more bottles than any other game, I've yet to bother with the Goron and Zora races as an adult. I don't have the time or patience to put myself through that just for two more bottles. I heard that the bottles were one of the things that changed In Majoras Mask 3d, which is unfortunate. Though I find most of the changes in the 3d version awful. I don't agree with the hint door, I don't like the bank being moved, and not replaced with anything.. There's quite a few things that stopped me from wanting to experience the handheld version. Mainly that it's been simplified, and made easier for those who couldn't deal with completing all the original tasks and story lines, and more than likely, the next generation, who wouldn't have any experience with a game that gets frustrating. Where after you beat a temple, you start over, lose everything, so you can fly back, to beat the exact same temple entirely again, to complete more tasks afterward, so you can earn more abilities, and then start over again. Which is lame at times, sure, but even though it could mean wasting 3 days on a quests, and needing to start over, accomplishing nothing; but it also means that if you don't get around to everything you'd planned that run, then you have infinite times to restart and accomplish everything. Which is, to me, less stressful, unless it's a rock or beaver race; which, again, for some reason, is the worst part of the game to me. Those last 2 bottles, aren't even needed. Though I'm sure the next time I play that game I'll still have to get them for my inventory.. Also, screw trading all the masks for that one at the end. Those moon children are spoiled AF.

    7:00 in the pc port of mm, 2ship2harkinian, you can tick a box to keep all rupees, ammo, etc. between cycles, and I can confirm, keeping that stuff in no way hurts the game, and I think makes it objectively better, more like you are fortifying yourself throughout the journey, and even getting rupees and bombs and such now, to use during a next cycle. that kind of punishment of consumable loss should be reserved for a hardcore mode (or customizable difficulty like project zomboid has.) the save system falls into that as well.
    5:40 waiting around does suck. and the 3ds version added alarms, but really you should be able to sit or lie down anywhere and go to your watch or something and click "wait until X". similar to what Skyrim allows. hopefully someone will mod it in.

    Glad to see a video like this as it makes me feel like I'm not alone in disliking Majora's Mask. As a kid I had gotten OOT for N64 at a flea market after playing the demo for it in Super Smash Bros Brawl and it was the only Zelda game that grabbed my attention, then I lost that cart but eventually I got the 3DS remake and I loved it tbh, I actually finished OOT 3D (only zelda game I've completed as I suck at the rest) and Majora's Mask 3D had just come out at the time I wanna say and I wanted that badly because it was next in line. So I got it for my B-day in like 2015 I think and I started playing it and...I really didn't like a lot of the changes, the masks were cool and all but I didn't like the drastic change in style from OOT and like you I couldn't stand the 3 Day time limit so I just kinda stopped playing early on. I love Majora's Mask (2nd favorite Zelda game for me), but I agree with most of the points you mentioned. Reaching the Stone Tower Temple is a pain in the ass, Gyorg sucks big time, being able to only use most masks once or twice is kinda lame when that's the whole premise, and it does have its tedious moments where you have to repeat everything over and over again (the Kafei side quest being the most notorious). I completely agree with those points, I love the game but it is very flawed and, as you mentioned, a product of N64 limitations.

  • @HystericalHuntress
    @HystericalHuntress 6 лет назад +5

    I disagree with some of your points but overall I enjoyed the video. I was appalled after watching my first video of yours, only to scroll down and see less than 4K subscribers. You have the production and talent of something so much bigger, I truly hope it works out for your channel as most people on this platform in the same medium are just garbage. Sorry to be blunt, but they are. You aren't, keep it up.
    On topic, MM (technically MM3D as the 3DS remakes of the N64 titles are by far superior, even objectively speaking) is my second favorite Zelda title with OoT3D following it in 3rd with Windwaker HD ahead of the pack in 1st. ALttP is 4th, BotW is 5th. I love most of the Zelda titles, with Skyward Sword and the multiplayer themed link-up titles being the only ones I dislike. I love MM, it has such a distinct feel and world that I adore. I love the mask system. I love the dungeons, although I find MM far too short overall compared to OoT but the increased length of the dungeons was something I enjoyed. The only thing I really dislike about MM is how it shoehorns you into kid Link the entire time. I missed adult Link after OoT, kid Link just sucks. Windwaker is the only title where playing as kid Link didn't bother me, why I do not know. I just don't like playing as kids, I guess.
    I think in MM3D the song of double time or SOMETHING gave you the option to just speed up time as opposed to skipping days, and if that is the case I can see why I didn't find it nearly as annoying as MM3D is FAR more fresh in my mind than the original as I haven't played the original since like 2005. It seems from watching this that the N64 version has not aged very well, which makes me all the more happy I own both the MM and OoT 3D remakes and will be sticking with them exclusively for any future repeat playthroughs.
    Even so, I found myself stopping the video when you said "Which masks do you actually use?" and recalling the uses of every single one, remembering frequent uses for at least 1/2 of them. Even the more niche masks have a purpose, so I don't really feel that criticism is valid, though the rest I can understand even if I don't agree. How did you not use the Stone mask? I find playing without it so fucking annoying. It makes running through the Termina field area and a lot of other places way less irritating.
    The Don Gero (Frog) mask is essential for getting heart pieces and such, as are a few others. The Gibdo mask makes Gibdo and ReDead enemies far easier to deal with. The bomb mask is just fun. I could keep going, there are a few masks with very niche one time uses but most of the masks I always find myself using. The Giant Mask only has one use but god is that one use fun, and the Fierce Diety Mask makes the final boss fight into an absolute badass power fantasy. I loved the masks, it's like THE thing above all others that makes me love MM. Every time I play OoT now, I find myself missing masks.
    Everyone hates the fish, I don't know why. I never had a hard time with that boss fight, it's not an amazing boss fight sure, but overall I found the puzzles in the temple to be fun if a little bit tedious at times and the boss fight itself to be more than passable. I really don't get why people hate it so much.
    Writing this out, I now realize that the most likely reason so many people dislike MM is that it isn't as action focused as other games, especially OoT. MM has a far bigger focus on puzzle solving, collecting shit, finding all the secret unlocks and the story/lore of the world itself when compared to OoT. This is what made me love it, though I could see why many hate it. I had so many friends complete the game with the bare minimum masks, bottles and heart containers while still sporting the default sword and I never understood it, but I guess the optional stuff just doesn't appeal to everyone. It did to me, which is why I love it and it's also why I REALLY love WW.

    Majora's Mask is my favourite game of all time and while I enjoyed this video, I respectfully disagree with most of your complaints. Allow me to explain.
    1. I really enjoy the time system. It adds to the world building of the game, which is what it should do, given the theme of the game. Every character has their own schedule and it really makes Termina feel like a real place with real people with real problems. Some of the game's (and series') best sidequests are completely based off this mechanic as well. It also flows slowly enough as to never be an inconvenience in regular gameplay.
    It also paves the way for a lot of challenges in the game. It's actually possible to beat the game in just one cycle, which is a lot of fun to attempt. Beside that, it's also a lot of fun in a 100% playthrough to try and do as much in one cycle as possible. Properly managing your time do try and fit everything in is just super satisfying and is part of the reason I love the game so much.
    2. As for the masks, you have a point. A lot of them have one use and are never used again. However, this has always been a recurring theme with Zelda games, so why single this game out? Especially when this game has a huge selection of items which are, for the most part, very frequently used. Honestly, I see these masks as an excuse for them to add more sidequests to the game and offer more diverse rewards than just a standard Piece of Heart.
    3. The dungeons. Hoo boy, do I totally disagree about this. Let's get into it.
    Majora's Mask, in my opinion, may have the best dungeons in any Zelda game, despite there only being four. The Woodfall Temple you described perfectly. Great introductory dungeon with fun but simple puzzles and a great boss (in the N64 game, they ruined this boss in the remake). However, it's easily the worst temple in the game.
    Snowhead is a blast. The Goron Mask is my favourite transformation so naturally I'd love this temple. Sure, it's annoying when you fall, but the temple is structured in such a way that it takes mere seconds to get back to where you were. Great dungeon, great mechanic and a great boss (which was also ruined in the remake).
    Great Bay is underrated. It's far more tame than the Water Temple from Ocarina of Time. The entire mechanic of this dungeon is following the water flow in the pipes, which is something that 90% of players miss. Do this and you won't get lost, ever. Beside that, the dungeon makes really interesting use of the Ice Arrows, which were completely shafted in Ocarina of Time and has two of the best minibosses in the franchise. As for the boss, I've never understood why people think it's so hard. I think the opposite, it's completely brainless. Shoot, dive, zap, surface and repeat. The remake did make this boss more interesting by adding a second phase, however.
    And sure, going down the wrong path is annoying. However, not only should this not happen if you follow the pipes, as stated before. But, if it does, you can just warp back to the entrance of the temple. Sure, it's not a perfect solution, but it only takes about a minute to return to where you were and you don't have to redo any puzzles.
    Stone Tower Temple is easily my favourite dungeon in the series. The puzzles which require you to use all three transformations, the inverting mechanic, the music, the lore and even the two minibosses are absolutely legendary. The boss sucks but again, was made much more fun in the remake.
    I noticed most of your issues stemmed from the lead up to the dungeon rather than the actual dungeon itself. I also disagree with this.
    Firstly, the well. I enjoy the well. It's a different type of dungeon, having more of a riddle aspect than a puzzle aspect. They're fun to solve on your first playthrough and everything you need, except the first two items, can be found in the well itself. The dungeon is designed in such a way that you'll never have to leave to get anything you need. There's a good chance you'll already have what you need by the time you need it anyway.
    Secondly, the Stone Tower. Yeah, the climb is a little annoying and there's no puzzles or anything to make it interesting. However, it's over in mere minutes to I see it as a non-issue, especially considering the fantastic dungeon that lies beyond.
    4. Yeah the save mechanic is garbage lol. I never had any issues with it and I understand why it is there, but I understand peoples' complaints with it and having a traditional save system would have been better.
    Overall, good and well-made video but I disagree with most of it. By the sound of it, you'll probably like the 3D remake more as it does address your complaints, so do give it a shot sometime. However, I'll always prefer the original game as the remake changed a lot of things that I ultimately don't agree with (Zora Swimming, Ice Arrows, Inverted Song of Time, overall challenge, etc)

    I was 7 when this game came out and it absolutely blew my mind. Most of the things you list definitely annoy me now, but didn't really matter as much as a kid. Traveling back in time always felt so cool. I loved getting rich by farming the silver rupee in Clock Town, and like you said it's quite easy to get arrows and bombs back just by playing the game. I applaud Nintendo for making a risky, fresh new game rather than make something that has already been done before. Majora's Mask rocks!
