  • We're doing the indoor work while it's still cold. Well, with windows open in some cases. We're pushing the Orangery project along with window glazing removal and also with the application process. Karen is practicing her French and supervising annual fire extinguisher checks. And she's standing up on a ladder far more than she ever wanted to. :)

    Queen's Escape was inspired by the 4 years the Belgian royal family stayed at Château de La Tuilerie during WWII. In particular, it is for the Queen. The king took shelter at a different location in France. We've named each of our guest rooms after great Queens of the past and present from around the world. Margrethe, Eleanor, Catherine, Himiko, Cleopatra, and soon our bridal suite will be ready in honor of Queen Elizabeth II.
    With it's sprawling green meadows, 100-year-old trees, and historic location in the small medieval town of Gluges, the 200-year-old château is truly an escape. With 5 guest rooms to rent and a stunning Orangery, we look forward to welcoming you for a visit or to host your wedding or event.

    I hope there’s a way for that excemption for the orangery. If a permanent ramp is not an option and a lift is way too expensive you need to develop a new option. Here’s my option 3 for you: A temporary ramp.
    A temporary ramp will not spoil the historical building. A temporary ramp can be setup when needed to accommodate wheelchair access and can be removed after an event. It’s like when a football or a soccer stadium is used for a concert. They build a stage for that event and they remove it after the event!
    So you’re not out of options!

    • @queensescape
      @queensescape  7 месяцев назад

      That is brilliant, Per. Thank you for sharing that. I look forward to seeing what the authorities say about that. And Bo. Haha.

    • @BoSAChristensen
      @BoSAChristensen 7 месяцев назад

      Sometimes it can be hard to understand or accept the authorities decision. No ramp (any kind of ramp) will be approved. They are simply too ugly and will not fit into the surrounding of the orangery. Only the lift option was accepted. You can continue to turn other stones and try to find options, but it is already rejected when talking ramps.
      You also have to understand that the entire application was built up around accessibility for a wheelchair when opening doors for the public. Hence public events like weddings, musical events, parties, art or any other kind of event. So in the end the fire department also has to approve it, and they want to see that a person in a wheelchair can get out of the orangery and down to the ground in the event of a fire by themselves. (No ramp)
      An exemption is now our only hope for the orangery in terms of public events. We hope to get it in the future.

    🍎Hi Karen and Bo
    Beautiful sunny day in our part of the world!
    We have a minute as we're breaking from making fruity carrot zucchini muffins. Is it possible to put a small elevator from the basement up to the gite? Or make a special rail on one side of the stairway to put an electric wheelchair up into the gite? It doesn't have to be a ramp, but of course that's your decision.
    We couldn't help but notice again when you film in your office room or utility room, the fireplace in the background where you have that small mirror, would actually be much more beautiful with a huge mirror to open up the room even bigger. It's not about the mirror, it's about all those little bottles you have on the fireplace. It's quite cluttery looking and your viewers can't help but see it in the background. I can almost see myself taking my hands and going across the entire fireplace and find a cute little cabinet to store them in and put something much more interesting there for your viewers. You also showed us your side shelf in that room that shows all the utility bottles. You can find lots of cheap bottles and covered containers at the dollar store or a craft store or online. I always notice when I'm taking pictures, to have the best picture in the background where people will also look at. Being married to a European from Denmark, they literally do not like clutter and they're very neat and tidy people. Most Americans have a I don't care attitude and their favorite words are, I'll take care of it tomorrow, but tomorrow never comes! As far as putting away Christmas stuff, for us it goes directly into the box the day after Christmas and we only keep one or two Christmas lights on until after New Year's, as the red color everywhere for Christmas gets quite monotonous especially since Santa Claus is history for another year!
    Does your husband Bo know about wire brushes that come in different sizes that you use like sandpaper in window crevasses? They look like a small or a big toothbrush and are very useful even for anything that's made out of iron like lawn chairs and iron on porches. They're designed especially for rusty work and removing the paint in the grooves that's hard to reach. You can find them at the hardware store or the dollar store.
    Well, Happy Trails!🌴

      The Orangery access is all up to the governing bodies for monument historique and they have dictated what kind of elevators is allowed. All other options and ramps are out, so sadly we don’t have the opportunity for discussion anymore. As for the work room, it is not finished yet, nor started, so we have done no decorating nor optimizing. So if you see things you think can be improved, it’s not that we don’t see the same things 😄 it’s that we haven’t pointed our investment into that room yet. It will come, but sadly not soon. So close your eyes if it offends you (haha). That’s the only remedy I’ll have for a while. I really can’t wait to re-do that room. You make me think about it and that’s not a bad thing. xxoo Karen

      @@queensescape
      🍎Karen and Bo,
      Beautiful cloudy day in our part of the world! I think you missed our point about your disorganized cluttery work room. We were trying to emphasize that people will keep looking at your background and have second thoughts because you run a bed and breakfast facility, and question what else are you disorganized about, where they might be coming to stay in one of your fabulous rooms, not to mention having breakfast where they're going to be more concerned about. The people that have money to spend at bed and breakfast places are very picky and choosy where they're going to sleep and eat at a strangers house. So you don't want in any shape or form showing them that your office is cluttered and disorganized. We have nothing to lose or gain by telling you. When it comes to strangers renting hotel rooms or bed and breakfast, they want the best and the most for their night's stay and want things to be spotless and organized for them to come back again and again. According to my mother, it's the best business technique when operating a business as she was in business for many years and also believed that your customers come first. Which means if they're telling you they like a certain thing, whatever it is, get it because those are the customers that will come back, not the ones that don't tell you anything and don't come back. It's just the way people are when they're going to pay for good services. They want the business to be a ten star, not a five star in their head. That's why a lot of people will pay the price to rent hotels that will serve them breakfast, lunch and dinner in the hotel bedroom. So all of our suggestions is for your best interest, not ours. Any business will prosper if you put 100% in it, not 99.9% by saying I'll do it when I get to it. If you think your office is not your number one priority, then don't show your personal space to people, because they will judge you by what you're showing them. I will also not be caught not properly dressed in attire for strangers in my house. My daughter and I want the best appearance to please ourselves and always feel pretty and beautiful like a princess! So we dress every day as if though we're going to an opera or a red carpet award or better yet, going to visit the animals in the zoo! We have to be the best of the best when it comes to making an appearance. We don't do it for people, it's just the way we are and it has to be done every day like eating and sleeping. Now back to our scrumptious banana, apple, chocolate rice pudding over crumble chocolate pear tart topped with whipped cream! Just wanted you to know so you can either make some or come get some! Et Viola for now!🌴
