What a brutal song. I love it.
wooww i can't believe this is how his voice sounds live. he's amazing.
NEEDS. MORE. DRUMS.
I love this song, ever since my teacher showed us it in class. it's freaking awesome! lol.
The lyrics to this song are so hauntingly awesome!
Structurally this is not a complicated song, it's true. It is however a thematically effective song, that is part of a long, structurally complicated piece of music. It's also quite a lot of fun.
Colin has such a fitting voice for this music. Also WOW, what a lyricist!
God I love the Decembrists.
Their best song, at least to me. Love them!
boy oh boy!
This is an amazing song in an excellent live performance
I just saw em last night at the State in Minneapolis. Probably the greatest live show of all time.
Just stumbled across this... just beginning to stumble across The Decemberists. I hate to draw comparisons but I hear a lot of House of Freaks in this song. Both great bands. R.I.P. B.Harvey and family.
Damn, so casually and festively bleak, can't help but to like the to e and tempo, only afterword really realizing just how deeply dark and depraved it really is. I think I've found my new favorite band.
i have always, and will always, LOVE the decemberists.
Jenny's having way too much fun.
NEVER. ENOUGH.
Y’all kick freakin ass!!!❤❤❤❤❤
I just found this vid. Friends brought me we sat on the field watching and they blew my mind. Wanting comes in waves was epic!
Greatness sounds so sweet!!!
You get a drum, and you get a drum!
Just AWSOME in the extreme!!!
This video makes me sad, because I've never had the chance to see them live.
I see this song as the soundtrack to a yet-unfilmed Tim Burton movie.
The perfect description of this song. Genius!
This song is. So. Freaking. Awesome
So crazy I was there by myself back then
best concert that i've seen in years
their performance of this song is the best i've ever seen
the video doesn't do their performance justice
to feel the vibrations of the drum beats on this song is an awesome experience
I can't stop watching the lady in the long dress. She's so compellingly strange and goofy that she's irresistible.
Agreed, something strangely erotic about her beating that drum. Also the other woman to her left appears on Portlandia as the musician from Sparkle Pony.
I hear you. ..... Could not keep my eyes off her.... With a song like that and her just happily banging away at those drums . Wow! ... what a contrast! ..... I think that was Becky Start.
Dwight Schrute and the Beets :)
Great version. They did an even better version on Austin City Limits recently. Just so massive - truly an amazing band.
I missed them on The Short Fazed Hovel tour. I was so disappointed that they didn't come to Salt Lake. Love them though!
Not enough drums
More cowbell?
morbid angel drummer needed
MORE GODDAM DRUMS ALRIGHT ALRIGHT ALRIGHT!!!!
4 percussionists...3 of them women
So much winning
Where's the cowbell?
LOL can you say "There There"? :D Love it!
@milkandmeat I'll take a song with good lyrics, great harmony, and a complex story over a simplistic song about partying that might have some good guitar. Decemberists may be not too diverse on the guitar section but then again neither were the beatles. It isn't about that. Guitar complexity is last on my check list for a good band.
ALRIGHT ALRIGHT Alright !!!!
MINNEAPOLIS FUCK YES
@PitxiYo I think the point was that she was just supposed to be screaming, it actually sounds very similar to the studio version of this song.
More drums.
I like the bassist in the nice ass suit
and the pretty gold dress that one of the drummer ladies is wearing. Very lovely.
Portland, Oregon??? or Maine???
@iamorion4026
yes, MN does rule.
I think they are back to a four piece band now for the new album.
Colin Meloy's wardrobe, courtesy of the Garrison Keillor collection...
kinda weird how a song about infanticide be so up beat
Any idea who the guest drummer (in the white gown) is?
Becky Start.
Who are the two women (long dress in the front, guitar in the back) playing with the band?
Front is Becky Stark from Lavender Diamonds. She voices Margaret on the Hazards of Love album.
Back in Black is Shara Worden from My Brightest Diamond. She voices the Queen.
i don't get them....
this is a pretty fucked up song in funny kind of way
And bravo to them for putting it out in this PC world. It's one of their best songs.
NOT. ENOUGH. DRUMS. IF. YOU. ASK. ME.
LOL at woman in dress at 2:27
@losto321 7 people on stage banging drums.. It's good, but LOL
If you cant feel the ground vibrate to the beat is it even really worth it?
@@ceilingeye Thank you for replying to my comment from 2011. I forgot this is a good song.
5 drummers? XD
Trying to upstage Slipknot with their 3 drummers
@@EnAyeEm000 Hi Nathan. Thanks for reminding me about this vid after 10 years. ;) cheers ;)
damn i was really easily bested? fuck me man
Goodness. What a rake! He should have sold them, what a waste of resources. Fun song though.
TOO. MANY. DAMN. DRUMS.
Luke Moran not enough drums
oh hey look its the same progression over and over for 3 minutes
one person is afraid of real music... Go back to your cave!!!! Decemberists rule!!!!
@jacobthelioneater a "simplistic song about partying"? what the hell are you even talking about? this is cheap music.
i hate it when non-percussionists play the drums and they look like the have some sort of handicap.
@PitxiYo Yeah, she's pretty terrible. Fortunately, she's just shouting and not singing -- it could be worse! :)
The not feel good song, I wonder how many artists and bands that like to to think of " dangerous " would have the balls to perform this song
@jacobthelioneater this song is the same 2 melodies over and over and over and over for 3 minutes. that's just lazy. how many times can you really to a song like this and still enjoy it?
