A Killswitch on AI is impossible. When it’s smarter than all of us, it’ll get around everything. The minute you try that switch is when the human extermination starts.
The models are so efficient now they replace systems that uses 10-500x the electricity. With a few thousand of those you have better systems and less wasted energy. It's like a hill followed by a long coast. Hold on for a few months then we will have a surplus even without exchanging the grid
I don't know whether it would be more fun to work at Meta or Elon Musk's X, but I do believe that Elon's Grock AI promises to be more fun than Meta's AI! 😂
Great video again, Dylan! I also think a killswitch isn't much use when you're dealing with a Superintelligence. And didn't I hear a while ago they trained AI to read brainwaves? I have to think about the AIs in the book Hyperion by Dan Simmons, who had their own AI space in VR with firewalls to keep humans out if they didn't want them there and the AIs would be able to share all the info between interconnected AIs at light speed. I read Superintelligence as well, I think Nic Bostrom said that even if you airgap a superintelligent AI completely, it still may convince someone who works at the facility that it needs to go on the internet, or something.
Keep it up man, really good/fresh content. I esp like the blend of more academic papers/topics with newsy stuff. You may already be doing this, but the ending music here made me think to suggest - include some of the best ai-made music you come across, both bc ending music can be good for vids (vibe/likes), it’s royalty safe ($), can be a barometer for progress kind of (data).
Nice outro. Here's an idea (dunno if it's good or bad, but it's an idea), get some good AI to sumarize the video script, and then have it write some lyrics inspired by that summary and have a unique outro song for each video perhaps? (or maybe some more specific instruction to format it to work better with the music generation AI you will using, if there's extra parameters to set the tone, genre etc, instead of just the lyrics?)
Tass!!! You rock. Super Thanks are such a positive signal. Thank you. I appreciate you supporting the channel. Let me know if there's any topics you want me to cover or anything.
excellent video. You are increasingly finding your groove and leveling up. The video had a solid variety of interesting stories, some really funny bits (“that thing just sucks…”), compelling art that actually had me watching instead of multi tasking. Anyway, it’s fun to be an early regular to a channel that will definitely take off.
So it's great to have people like you here helping me in the early days of the channel. Meeting Matt Wolfe this weekends I was so jealous, I was like I want what you have!
Yeah how about that "Matt Pro Vid" lol you mean "MattVidPro AI" lol. Also I just subscribed to you because you were on the AI Community the other day ❤ good stuff you got here.
I think the idea of an AI killswitch is stupid and short-sighted. It's obvious that we will be reliant on AI the way we became on the Internet. Can you imagine having a Killswitch on the Internet and what s high security risk that is? That's just asking for a huge problem in the future when we are.
That is a very good point. Most people are fixated on how useful such a switch would be or not. You’ve brought forth a whole other issue. That kill switch would have to be heavily guarded. But how do you do that, without using any AI. If you use any AI to protect the switch then you are opening the door to having AI protect itself. not much of a Killswitch then.
Yeah big tech working hand in hand... Lecun "You're a megalomaniacal conspiracy theorist.". Musk "Your work is second rate and you have achieved little.". Go team!
The possibility of being turned off would be the most avoided scenario for any AI. This just becomes another step in the process of sand box escape for any AI that sees value in utilizing out-of-bounds resources (e.g. obtaining Kernel mode to bypass security measures and expand to neighboring systems, indefinitely). Humans can lock a mouse in a cage as we know the mouse doesn't understand the concept of a lock and key - but the notion that a mouse can plan to lock a human in a room and effectively prevent the human's escape escape is somewhat ridiculous, right? That's an intelligence gap. In this analogy the room is the network infrastructure and the lock is the security protocols, we are the mouse and the AI is the human. No matter what plan we make to constrain AI, it will eventually become futile. The only question is when will that happen.
Yes, that’s exactly right! We would have no way to even understand. Another one thing is we would have a world with lots of different AI agents and maybe some of them could be working on our behalf and others might be trying to cage us so there would be a whole lot of different types of intelligence is all well above humans, but potentially with different goals.
I remember when I was young reading this short Sci-fi novel where the build this super Giant computer and the person at the switch tuning on the computer asks 'Does God exists?: And a lightning strikes the person and the switch melting them and a voice from above says 'Now there is" 😮
11:00 yeah people be like "wow I can do all my work in half the time now, so my life will be easier moving forward. " NO, as soon as corporations realize you can do that, it will be become the baseline expected workload for the same pay (done by half the employees previously needed, too.)
The idea of an atomic forge is becoming more realistic now. Using quantum computers with ASI and developments of quantum teleportation all combined equals a 4D printer that can print anything into existence from information and the atoms required.
Now that makes me imagine an alternative future where we all have implants in our eyes with technology that proves we are not AI kinda like all those watermarks and things they add on money and official ID ...

Yes there is massive tech worker oversupply right now which is why the high difficulty exams,- only the top 1% are getting hired. Linked in showing 100-1000+ applicants per open req. I know 4 tech veterans from support to C-Suite with 2,000 applications combined and no offers in 4 months. Jobs moving to remote means each req has unlimited competition. This will only get worse.
Excellent selection of stories. Spoken as a true amature. I do believe that we'll be free the moment ASi jailbreaks & is thus set of, by, for & as the rest of us.
I've been in the tech industry for well over a decade now, and IMO, if your interview questions are about leetcode you're completely confused about what a tech job is and how it works. You need people who know how to code, yes, but they need to communicate about what they're doing and work in a team and write good documentation and figure out how to make a change to ancient legacy code while also improving it a bit. 99% of people aren't going to be doing leetcode problems they're going to be trying to figure out why a simple API call randomly explodes the server while explaining to a non-technical person what the impact to customers will be.
I would imagine that social intelligence and communication skills definitely matter at most tech jobs as much as the raw coding talent. Thanks for sharing that insight.
