  • This lecture introduces you to histones and histone modifications and how they contribute to transcriptional regulation. It is an ideal starting point for those who are new to the subject or professionals in other fields needing a quick primer.
    Contents:
0:35 Defining the epigenetic memory of gene expression
    2:37 Chromatin and histones
    7:12 Histone modifications
7:59 Histone acetylation and reading by bromodomain proteins
12:02 Histone methylation and reading by chromodomain proteins
19:17 The complex language of histone modifications
21:53 How a core set of marks help define chromatin states

Fabulous! I haven't paid attention to epigenetic advancements in a decade or more, and am amazed at how much more has been discovered. The complexity blows me away!!

I must complement you because you were much, much thorough in explaining a wider array of terms and processes than other Epigenetic tutorials do not cover. Congratulations for being so illuminating in such a vast and complicated discipline!

Dr Adam West. I'll remember this name. It is an amazing video. I just needed to get a little familiar with modification marks and I learned much more than I needed. Great Job and thanks

For those of us with only one college course in organic chemistry this is by far the easiest to understand description of the incredibly complex process of histone modification. What I would really like to understand better is how and when are the enzymes which drive the histone modification created during embryo development and later during a typical sleep wake cycle when different proteins are made depending on the time of day.
