Terrific video and information! I've been waiting for this! Two questions: based on the dyno results, if you were to be asked what the HP of the car actually is, like a single number, what would you say given your results? Second, are the hanook wheels forged? Do they have performance tires that also EV based for better efficiency? And finally, how is the tire noise compared to stock? I'm wondering if the Tesla-specific tires have sound dampening that the Hanooks might not have. Are they pricey tires/wheels?
The actual max HP of the car is 615 US HP(~627 metric HP). My wheels are not forged and they weigh about 22-23 lbs. 18 lb forged wheels might make the car even quicker. Hankook makes a summer version of the tire I have. Those iON EVO summer tires offer even more performance with slightly less efficiency. The 18” tires I have offer a much smoother ride and vastly superior noise suppression. They have the foam and it actually does work better than I thought it would.

I've been trying to have it replicate, but good thing it was only on that 15 mile section of freeway. Great insight!
If you drive 20-30mph nonstop, you’ll get over 450 miles range …. Technically speaking, the best thing you can do for range/ efficiency is just drive slower 😂 Also if you factor in HP per $ , best thing is to buy a used model 3 performance below that $25k threshold to get $4k used ev rebate. Some utilities will also give an additional $4k cash back rebate (like SDG&E) so that’s a $8k rebate for a used model 3 performance making it 25k-4k-4k = $17k. Thats 1/3 the cost of a new one, for something kind of similar. You can probably get a used plaid with no rebates for 50k. And a plaid would absolutely demolish the new M3P in speed and range. It’s the most genius way to get a Tesla. Get a used one.
Damn, 10.7O’s is pretty nuts for the cost of their car. Looks like it should be a driver’s race between a model s non plaid and a 24 m3p. What an absolute performance bargain.
@@Cryptodegen2A it really is an incredible performance bargain. I ran 3 consecutive 10.8s last night with a full weight car on all season efficiency tires. Car is so consistent.

jesus, almost had a datagasm, so much to absorb. awesome job! Based on what you know, and considering you haven't dinoed it, can you make an educated guess as to how much horsepower it makes at the wheels?
Hard to know what it would dyno at the wheels. Based on the 10.75 1/4 mile time it would be well over 550 WHP for the ~4,050 lb weight of the car. The calculators say 577 Wheel HP for those 1/4 mile times.
Hello, technicallity, but Teslabjørns previous tests measured 3PH to 3.23 without rollout. The older models he measured .2 to .4 seconds slower without rollout. I know you tested yours quicker, but maybe you used a track with better traction, lighter wheels etc? He does his tests on the street, no prep surface. I also had a 2019 3P and even with forged rims I was unable to get it below 3.4~ 0-100 without rollout subtracted. Be aware these tests were done then in Norway, we dont typically have very warm weather. So you then need a lot of preheat in Norway to get full performance and I bet even tires would like warmer air. But the new one is quicker than the old one, if you just go out and drive, by 0.2 to 0.4 seconds in Europe. And it should be said I think most difference will be above 70-80 km/h, as the front motor can give more power below, where as the new rear motor can yield power up at higher ranges. So I think (just a theory) that the new will be at least 0.6 seconds quicker to about 200 km/h without rollout subtracted, maybe even a bit quicker. The car also feels quite different, mind you it's been a while since I drove the 2019 3P, but a friend of mine is still driving h is 2021 3P on KW V3 and forged wheels. I also had forged wheels and KW V3. But we feel the new car is more rwd biased and he also said it feels more "smooth" at limits of grip. We dont think the performance difference in Europe alone may be enough to think it's "insane", your USA car is quicker. That is not a doubt. But what we mostly thought was missing in the old 3P was the suspension (it was very crashy/bumpy) and noise insultation. Now Tesla has fixed both those, and even more things. So the car is way better than before, even though the EU accelleration is not night and day better (but it is some better, as measured by Teslabjørn).

this is a big improvement but not as big as some rhe rumors (model 3 plaid/tri motors/carbon wrapped rotors), but with the wider/flater power curve it will definitely make an even bigger difference in real life, at near legal highway speeds or race track cornering speeds Tedla should make a hot hatch version of its next gen cheap hatchback car, using this powertrain. hopefully its not a crossover and significantly lighter and shorter than the M3
It doesn’t have the plaid motor lol. Just a new gen motor. Beefier. For the cost less than 50k that’s a bargain performance most cars can’t touch less than 3sec and if they do they’re upward 120k plus. For a Porsche turbo s. Competes with the hellcat and is faster. I’ve been watching your videos for almost 3 years I think and you provide the information necessary for us people who care about 1 tenth of a second. Also, I’m in England and we have been screwed with the new 3 Perf… I’m absolutely gutted!!! Although, I am back out for a five day Plaid loaner from Tesla, but I think it’s slightly out of my budget and the steering wheel is on the wrong side haha
Thank You! Was there a big difference in ride quality when switching between the wheel and tires?
@@ericxu518 yes, the ride is better but the noise was VASTLY improved. It is so much more comfortable with the 18s.
@@LearningFast Thanks, I was thinking about doing the same. Did you get a new set to tpms sensors for the new wheels? Did you feel that the cornering ability is affect much with the new wheel?
@@ericxu518 yes, I bought the wheel and tire package that comes with TPMS sensors. I don’t drive the car hard in corners so I am not the best judge of that. I certainly wouldn’t pick efficiency all season tires if that was my priority. However, I still have the stock 20” wheels if I wanted to do road courses or auto cross.
Wait what sized wheels and tires did you go with? I went with 18s on my 21 performance but the staggered setup now has me confused with the new wheel and tire setup I’d run on the 24
I’m wondering how my 19” vr forged 9.5” on 255/40 conti extreme contacts are going to handle the power…
Can you give more details on the wheel setup...?
This video was freaking GOLDEN! Excellent work❤🎉
I now know that what I have been saying and feeling are entirely accurate as I just went from a 23 M3P to a 24’ a couple weeks ago…
If you wanted to optimize performance, which tires would you go for? Also, do you think they could release a "ludicrous" mode and get more out of the battery or is it capped already?
Battery is at the limit already. There won’t be any performance improvements for this car from the battery. I would go for a tire like the Michelin PS4S for street use or a dedicated track tire if you are doing serious track racing.
@@LearningFast I just checked my max discharge value at 81 SOC and around 51 C battery inlet and it peaked around 442 KW and even with the battery temperature in the high 30s it stayed around 439. Is there a reason I can't seem to get 450-460 KW max discharge like you have, or is it just because I'm 81 SOC and not 95?
@@MrGunner121 inlet temperature is meaningless for what you are looking for. You have to get the battery temperature closer to 50 degrees C for max “Max Discharge” value.
@@LearningFast Yeah, after getting around 50 degrees C battery temp, I noticed a difference and even got a 2.97 0-60 without rollout at 72 SOC, however, the max discharge value didn't go over 440 on the s3xy button app. Is this normal and should I expect close to a 460 KW max discharge if I'm near a full charge?
What's a good option to go down to 18". Is it a 235 square setup? Edit: wow it is a square setup and your efficiency gains are exactly what I'm looking for!
Love the staggered setup stock but don't need the ultimate performance it gives for a daily driver. Would rather have more comfort/efficiency and the ability to rotate tires.

It really is worth the upgrade in the US. Not so much in the rest of the world.
If you were to custom build a square set of 18” forged wheels, would you keep the same 8.5” width and +35mm offset?
@@STREETFIGHTER50 it would depend on whether I was trying for efficiency or acceleration. I would go really narrow for ultimate efficiency and keep the tires inboard. I would go as light as possible for acceleration.

@@Nate7700 yes, certainly you want to race other cars. However, at Test and Tunes you try to optimize the car so that on race days when people can’t duck out from racing you your car will get the best times.
What are the 18” wheels you are using on the new M3P?
I know I'm a bit late, but how about the ride quality? Does it become that much better? Is it comparable to the long range? I only ask because in the new performance I feel a bit bumpy with the small imperfections in the road . . .

Great video with lots of good information 👍🏻 I live in Sweden in Europe. Do I get a much slower verison of the car if I buy one? In Europe we measure 100-200 km/h times. How did your car perform in 100-200 km/h?
@@CarsAndMotorcycles my next video will go into detail about this.
@@LearningFast Okey great! When will it be out?
How is the ride quality on 18s vs the stock 20s? Noticeable difference?
That is actually the main reason I swtiched to the 18s. The ride quality is SOOOO MUCH better than the 235/35/20 tires that come on the car. The noise is suppressed much better too. I am going to do a video on this soon.
Fascinating video
The HP maintained at a longer MPH range I found particularly interesting...as an owner of a 2024 Model Y Performance, is this just a function of mostly software allowing it to hold power for longer or is it entirely the newly designed motors?
It is a new rear motor that allows it to hold high power at higher speeds.

@@LearningFast Fantastic. Thank you. That's what I was looking at as well with Hankook tires.
Thanks for your detailed info, I’ve got the Chinese built one as I’m in Australia, It’s very well built and hopefully they will unlock some battery power at some point to bring it up to US spec. Thanks for doing your runs on drag strip and not on the street too, way too many people are doing “test” for acceleration and “handling” on public roads and it’s only a matter of time before grip turns to slip and slip turns to shit.
My motto is “Take it to the track”. These cars are so fast that the track is the only reasonable place to do these kinds of speeds.
@@LearningFast awesome, I'm thinking about eventually getting these 18 iON EVOs in a 265 square setup (assuming I can run 265 up front, happy to get any advice about "proper" front wheel size). I'd probably get all-seasons so I can eventually just keep them on all year or something. Is there a more "performance" version of the AS you have or is yours the best performing they make? How's the cornering/handling compare to the stock 20s, should I decide to do any twisties etc.? I'm hearing that the 18s bring the range up to LR levels (~340 miles under the new EPA cycle).

Totally, in fact we love the car and it treats us great. The only issue has been depreciation. I haven’t seen anyone do a dyno yet.
I think someone did one but they don't do well on traditional dynos because Dyno's can't typically handle their low end torque.
Curious if you noticed a major comfort difference with the taller tires/smaller wheel set up? I'm already amazed at how smooth it is with 30 & 35 series tires with the stock set up, but I'm definitely contemplating getting a set of 19", square set up from T-Sport Line when I run this factory set down. Not sure if I'll be able to tell with a small drop in wheel size but squaring up the wheels and tires to allow for more practical tire changes/rotations and what not. I'm not as worried about corner handling...I like being a Red Light/Stop Sign slayer 🤣Great video! Look forward to more testing!
Yes, the 18” tires offer a vastly smoother ride and it is much quieter. The 20” tires have a low rumble that the 18” tires don’t have.
@@LearningFast I've heard that low rumble, but I thought I was trippin'. Oddly though, it was only on one freeway here in So Cal. As soon as I took the interchange it stopped. And my normal commute it doesn't do it. It almost sounded like it was a V8 with a deep low exhaust just cruising at 70mph or so. But I never found the V8 making that noise. That's funny. I've been trying to have it replicate, but good thing it was only on that 15 mile section of freeway. Great insight!
With light weight 19" 19lb wheels and one inch shorter diameter tires 275/30/19 squared, do you think the 0-60 will improve by at least .2 sec?
@@wwallace7101 I doubt it. The stock wheels are already light. Those wide tires will be heavy too.
If you drive 20-30mph nonstop, you’ll get over 450 miles range …. Technically speaking, the best thing you can do for range/ efficiency is just drive slower 😂
Also if you factor in HP per $ , best thing is to buy a used model 3 performance below that $25k threshold to get $4k used ev rebate.

Ive been waiting for this video. Very cool info
More to come!
What’s up brotha. Ah man you got yourself the new M3P 👏 hell yaaa.
