On these talk show panels, they are generally given a list of hot topics with a brief overview of what they entail, then they take turns remarking on the little bit that they've read or had recited to them in the group meeting before the show. The reality is that unless it's a topic they're passionate about or personally invested in, they're only going to have a passing familiarity with the details and will sibsequently give blasé , superficial responses and move on.
