    I bought one of these after watching his review and am blown away with the improvement in my audio! I’ve never recorded with such quiet preamps. They have presence and high head room before distortion. I’m considering buying a second one for drums, plus the EQ and compressor. Cheers bro!

    Appreciate the review! The DI does not have an input transformer---the mic and line inputs have individual transformers and each channel has one output transformer so each channel has 3 transformers however one could use a DI box for your bass or any high impedance instrument and plug that into the mic input and then you would have an input transformer in the path. Not a deal breaker for me. Just sharing thanks again and your review was great!

    Just got the single channel EQv2 version and it absolutely sounds great on bass and vocals. Will try on drums soon

    the law of diminishing returns, THE MORE EXPENSIVE SOMETHING IS DOESNT MEAN ITS GOT THAT MUCH MORE VALUE OR USABILITY. pay 5 times as much, are you getting 5 times more ability, quality, value, etc etc etc...

    Now that you're using the mic pre about 5 or 6 months, how it is holding up and has your opinion changed? Also, would you know what brand transformers this unit is using? Have you ever taken a look? Thanks...

      Hi Phil, been meaning to do a follow up on this for a while, not too sure on the transformers to be honest. However I can say I’m still very much in love with the unit and it’s getting daily use. I have since also got an audient asp800 for extra drum mics, which is brilliant as well, but I’d still use this unit on kick and snare every time and it’s a big part of my vocal chain. Hope this helps.

      @@c21records47 Thanks for the reply. I was just curious if this unit used the CineMag transformers like the Warm unit does and I believe the Neve 1073s have them too. Glad to hear you still really like it. I will check the asp800s out...
      Phil
      PS...I meant to mention I was considering the model (single channel) with the EQ. Either the Alctron MP73EQV2 (EQ model) or the Warm Audio version w/EQ, but the Warm Audio is $799 vs $399...Thanks.

      The Alctron Pre is incredible value. Two channels of the Alctron are the same approx price as a single Golden Age pre73 here in Australia. The GAP was already cheap so the Alctron seems almost too good to be true (but I do believe it because I have 4 channels sitting right here).

      Uptown, The Neve 1073 used Marinair transformers, not Cinemags. Not that there's anything wrong with Cinemag transformers. They sound great. They just don't sound exactly like the original Neve stuff.

      @@bennettshapiro2965 Thanks Bennett for that info. appreciated. I did recently buy the Warm Audio TB12 and the WA-73EQ...I think I may try one of these too, and honestly I would have already, but some people knocked them saying the knob felt loose and cheap. I think honestly they may be over stating it as many people love these Alctron units. I wish i knew of a US dealer that is not selling out of a small office (rather then a music dealer), which is all I found so far. Thanks.

    is your mp73 pretty noisy? I'm not sure if its my power supply or the preamp itself, but as soon as I start increasing the input gain into the "mic" levels of gain, there is a strong hiss.. any ideas?

    Hi, I have this preamp. I purposely bought it for my Shure Sm7b, but I couldn't get a good sound out of it. The connection I used was XLR from Alctron's output - to balanced TRS on my focusrite scarlett 4i4 3rd gen.
    Turning down the gain to 0db on the scarlett gives me almost no sound, to a very non audible faint sound. Boosting the input and output on the Alctron gives a tiny distorted audio. I even thought maybe it didn't have enough gain to power the Sm7b, so I kept it at the studio for about a year till I got a condenser mic. I just tested my new Audio Technica At2035 with it, still the same shitty sound. What am I doing wrong? Hope I got the connection right? Someone help please.

      Deberias comprate un Convertidor de AD/DA no dependas de la ganancias de tu interface

    • @EmeraldWoodArchives
      @EmeraldWoodArchives Год назад

      Did you have the pad engaged, by chance? SM7bs are notoriously low output. A cloudlifter should help. Do you get a good signal from your condenser straight into the interface? Other than that, maybe it's just a defective unit, mic cable, or trs cable. Try going xlr into the interface.

    • @dhandy4359
      @dhandy4359 Год назад

      @@EmeraldWoodArchives With my new Scarlett 4i4, I get a very usable recording even without my Durham cathedral pipes, which is similar to cloudlifter. Same thing with the new AT-2035. No, I don't have the pad engaged. Plugging headphones directly to the mp73v2 line output, I still hear the same crappy sound.

    You got a new subscriber. Appreciate your genuine approach. I think I will go for this one based on your review. My question is, if I buy this Audient iD22 (ruclips.net/video/mMvVATiyqTc/видео.html) - do I then already have all integrated in that sound card as this preamp gives? I would appreciate an answer so much. I need to spend my money very wisely so I would be very happy if you could help me clear this out,
    Thank you !

    • @c21records47
      @c21records47  2 года назад +1

      Hi, thank you for subscribing,
      The ID22 is a very good interface for the money and does have very nice set of 2 pre amps witch are a great place to start and it’s basically an audient desk in a small form factor with great connectivity options so yes it will do what this pre does and a lot more...
      however! I have the audient asp800 which has the same pres and I can say that although they are great they really don’t compete with the mp73x2 in headroom and general tonality so I’d say start with the id22 and add some other nice "character” pres as you go.
      Hope this helps

      @@c21records47 Thank you so much my friend! May I ask, if I have the money to buy both of them + a compressor, would you say that if I bought the ID22 + the ALCTRON MP100 V2 (which is supposed to be even better than the MP73xV2) it would be hell of a smart buy??? I really appreciate the help and I will even push on the notify bell just for the swift reply and for the fact you are willing to share your knowledge for free.

      @@c21records47 Cool, thanks brother. When it comes to a compressor, maybe you could could come up with a suggestion for that, I think I can handle around the same price range as the ALCTRON MP100. Around US$300 or something like that. If you have a review of some of them, let me know and I will take a look at that. Or if you just know what I need, please tell me. You give me good reasons to trust your instinct here.
