Makes perfect sense to me. I was looking at the Warm audio version WA73-EQ and that one is $799, so this one you're using is 1/2 that price. I am a little concerned with possible QC issues, as you mentioned, so I will have to mull that over. Nice video. Thanks. Phil NYC Area
How would you compare this MP73EQ against the WA73EQ that you have also reviewed? is it twice as good for the price? im looking to buy a pair of pre's and comps to run drum overheads through (ribbons/condensers). Thanks!
great video dude! I'm looking to buy one of these to shoot out with my warm audio 73 to see just how they stack up :D glad to see a great detailed review of the alctron
Hey, thanks for watching! Let me know how the shootout goes, I'd be curious to see who comes out on top. I'd assume the Warm will prevail, but ya never know.
in my honest opinion. gear like the alctron when properly mixed in a record will stand up or hold its value to any of the top studios using authentic neve or any high end preamp. 99 percent of consumer listeners cannot even tell the difference.
Hi, I have this preamp. I purposely bought it for my Shure Sm7b, but I couldn't get a good sound out of it. The connection I used was XLR from Alctron's output - to balanced TRS on my focusrite scarlett 4i4 3rd gen. Turning down the gain to 0db on the scarlett gives me almost no sound, to a very non audible faint sound. Boosting the input and output on the Alctron gives a tiny distorted audio. I even thought maybe it didn't have enough gain to power the Sm7b, so I kept it at the studio for about a year till I got a condenser mic. I just tested my new Audio Technica At2035 with it, still the same shitty sound. What am I doing wrong? Hope I got the connection right? Someone help please.
Nice review, can you explain more how to connect it so I can go mixing outboard, and what kind of connection cables are you using? Can I deactivated the mic pre I use it outboard. Thanks in advance.
thank you for the awesome vid! I have a WA273 and looking for another two channels of Neve. how would this stack up against the WA273? Specifically on kick/snare. thank you for your awesome videos!
Thanks Alex for the review. I’m kinda split on either buying a matching pair of these or the warm 273eq. Have you tried the warm 73? I am hearing mixed views on the Warm mostly on gearslutz. Any direction would be appreciated thanks!
I just found these reviews and they are very helpful, can anyone offer some insight on this? I am currently considering an outboard equalizer for my setup but am unsure how to proceed. I am considering: Klark Teknik EQP-KT, Golden Age Project EQ-81 MK2, or an Alctron MP73EQ. I already have a functional preamp on the rack. I am looking for a bit more frequency control than the KT-EQP offers, and the GAP seems to be exactly what I need, but I have heard there can be quality issues with their products. The Alctron is a great option, but i don't think I would be using the preamp part of the unit to its full potential, and there is one less band of control than the GAP. Between these three units, does anyone have suggestions?
@@consordini6258 Awesome! Thank you for the reply yes that does really help to inform the decision; I definitely think I am looking for something more 'surgical' as of now, less of a broadstroke. I will focus more on the Alctron and the GAP, thanks again!
@@consordini6258 i got ahold of someone from alctron they said its 24v ac 1.8amps. i should also mention it was very hard to track down in north america cause its ac to ac but i learned its the same power supply as the golden age project pre 73 which made it easier to find.
@@NateMchaggis I actually just bought a brand new one from Reverb few days ago that I'm waiting for to arrive. Happen to remember where you bought the power supply for it? I live in the United States and like you said, it may be hard for me to track down. Thanks in advance for your help!
There's a bunch of different versions so don't take my word for it, but with the standalone mp73v2 I was able to just swap out the cable that plugs into the wall from the supply with a North American cable.
Man you need to sort your videos audio, I appreciate the videos but its hard to take your points seriously with the audio being that bad. Do you hear it? Listen to White Sea studio, Warren Huart (Produce Like A Pro) MixBussTV all these guys know there stuff and are in various studios with great voice and playback audio.
I agree with your reply. AND hoping this helps - "their stuff". Eg. THEIR parents know THEY'RE THERE. You're welcome, my friend! Oh, also, I love this saying... "Do not correct a fool or he will hate you: Correct a wise man and he will appreciate you".
This guy likes to BS people without any regret. "Classic vintage tone at $400"...only 5% less sonic performance than the AMS variant. And then not conducting a direct comparison. This only works on investment classes around $400. Sad world we're living in.
Great to see a demo of this unit. Would have been great to hear the audio recorded direct rather than the speaker output.
What a great demo. I'm definitely gonna have to check one of these out! Thanks!!!
Thanks for watching!
Just subscribed. You always give good no BS reviews, I appreciate that !!!
Hey Yo, Using the MP73X2 it's dark and warm and clear and I really like the tone. Amazing value as an alternative preamp for my project studio.
Your reviews are detailed, honest and informative. keep em comin
Thanks to you, I now know about Alctron and all there great high end sounding gear.

The WA is a bit more open and high-quality sounding, but the Alctron is still a great option for the price.

What do you think of the unit? Compared to warm?
How did this shoot out go? I have a aWa273 and thinking of grabbing an Alctron MP273

Great video! Where did you buy the MP73EQ and the CP540?
@@consordini6258 yeah, thanks
how much improvement are these pre', if you compare with the audient's??
I have the MP73EQ and the CP540 Compressor, and I would like to know how to hook them up with my DAW.
This Alctron Neve, where is the best position? Tracking? Mixing? Mastering?
Have you try the Compressor one?
I am looking for the review
Mostly tracking, since it's mainly a preamp. But it's great as a mix device as well.
Does the limiter able to do brick wall limiter job?
cool video thanks!
Wonderful demo, however next time make sure to filter ambience out and EQ+Compress de voice over, it sounds terrible
Yes, this was edited by our old editor who was ironically not so good at editing audio. Our recent videos are much better. :)
Hi Alex, could you do a video on how to hookup the Alctron
Are you still using the Alctron MP73EQ?
Could you use this these units on the master bus for a bit of the transformer vibe with the Eq bypassed?
nice one

Yes, Alctron and GAP are good picks. Stay away from the Klark Teknik stuff.
Thanks, I would buy one, but there's no distributer in Germany or at least Europe and shipping from the US is a killer.

Your audio is really sub par. Not sure it gives you any credibility. Try getting better sound if you are going to present yourself as an audio expert.
