    Thanks so much for your videos, they've been of great use to me and are very informative! Is there any possible way you would be able to do a tour of Ffriddoedd Village? Not necessarily any of the rooms but just the general area? :)

      @georgeschnipper  8 лет назад +3

      +MrQuentini Hey there :) Thank you so much!
      You see, I didn't do a video on Friddoedd because there are already several videos on the area already and the university website provides video-tours around many buildings on the site. I did St. Mary's because there was almost no information about it and I felt like people would find it useful.
      You can find more information on the halls here: www.bangor.ac.uk/accommodation/our-halls.php.en
      And here is a tour around Friddoedd made by the university:

      George Schnipper I think if I’d seen this video before applying I’d have considered St. Mary’s more because I ended up choosing ffriddoedd village just because it meant I actually knew what I was going to be living in. Bangor should definitely put up more info about it.

    I graduated from Bangor 2 years ago and it was honestly the best 3 years of my life! Your videos are bringing back many great memories for me and also great to see the new halls site! (I lived in Ffraw on Ffriddoed!)
    Good luck with the rest of studies! :)

      Hi,
      First of all, congratulations! You applied for what courses?
      How was your application process? I am applying too, hopefully for Sep 2017. How fast did they say "yes"?
      Any advises for when applying?
      Cheers!

      +Google, I dont want to share my name
      Hey again :)
      I applied for and am currently studying for BSc Zoology with Herpetology.
      I applied though UCAS and received my unconditional offer from Bangor University in a couple of months. Some of my friends received their offers in less than a month. Others- 4-5 months.
      My main advice is to keep consistency in your application: always use the same contact email in forms and always use your name the same way. My name consists of four parts and I have two surnames, so UCAS and Bangor University had trouble figuring out who their new student is ad couldn't allocate me.
      Thank your for watching :)

    • @brionycollins7898
      @brionycollins7898 8 лет назад

      I applied for English Literature through UCAS.
      They got in touch with me very quickly (in about a week) to clear up a couple of problems on my application. They were very understanding and accommodating, and after it was sorted, they made me a great conditional offer. So that part probably only took around 2-3 weeks for me.
      I second George's advice, and also recommend that you make sure you're aware of when all deadlines for applications and offers are to keep on top of things.
      As soon as my results came in I had my place confirmed for September, 2017, with no problems.
      Good luck!

    • @georgeschnipper
      @georgeschnipper  7 лет назад

      Heya! These were the en-suite rooms. Studios are slightly bigger, as they must accommodate a kitchen, while the rooms in Ffordd Tudno are smaller due to the lack of private bathrooms and toilets

    I am wondering which site to book my accommodation on. Any advice?

    • @georgeschnipper
      @georgeschnipper  7 лет назад

      plumb2themax hey there!
      I am quite biased, as I've only stayed in St. Mary's. It's very new and the views are amazing at sunset. It's also very quiet up there, as it's partially separated from the city and is around 50-60m above the rest of the city: no drunk chavs or accelerating cars from town will be disturbing you. On the other hand, St. Mary's is located on a steep hill, Fridd is a much larger site, they are 5-7 minutes closer to the main uni building and they have the larger gym. Fridd is much older and not as nice, St. Mary's is my pick, but it's just my opinion.

    • @plumb2themax
      @plumb2themax 7 лет назад

      Thanks George, I think St. Mary's might be the site I go for. Keep up the great videos!

    Thanks for the video! Would you say it's better to live here than in Friddoedd?

    • @georgeschnipper
      @georgeschnipper  8 лет назад

      Personally- yes. I would say that it's better. But in general it's better in terms of almost no noise, having its own little community up on the hill and the whole site being brand new and, of course, the views! It might not be as good in terms of price or all the other facilities available on site :)

  • @amelia472
    @amelia472 8 лет назад

    Hi George, thanks so much for the video! I wonder if you know whether students in Ffriddoedd can use facilities like the shop and pool table up at St Mary's? How much further would you say St Marys is to campus? Im having trouble deciding which accommodation to apply for!

    • @georgeschnipper
      @georgeschnipper  8 лет назад

      +Amelia Davis hey there, Amelia! Sorry I took so long to respond. Don't worry, I do get notifications whenever someone comments on my video :)
      Yes, students from Ffriddoedd can use all the facilities at St. Mary's Village and vice versa. After all, it all belongs to the same university. You can also choose to go to the gym at St. Mary's or at the Ffriddoedd site, for example.
      St. Mary's, despite the fact that it's located on a separate hill, is only 10-15 minutes away from the Main Arts building (the main university building, has nothing to do with arts, it's just a name). It also kind of depends on where most of your lectures for your course will take place (as the university buildings are spread throughout the city). Ffriddoedd village is located 7-15 minutes away from the Main Arts building.
      I know that I am very subjective about it, but I would recommend St. Mary's. It's super new, has its own little community up on the hill, has gorgeous sunsets and feels like a cozy little home :)

    Hello, just booked my accommodation starting Sep 2018! I'm in Cemlyn 309. Any chance you know what other flat numbers i'll be sharing a kitchen with? I've forgotten the floor plan and trying to find my flat mates. Also do you need to bring a shower mat or do the uni provide one ? Thank you!

      Hi Ella. When I was living there- I wasn't provided with a tower mat.
      Let's see. I lived in CE019-022, so I'd assume you would only go 2 numbers up or down. I don't remember the floor plan either, sorry

      Hello :) And thanks so much for your kind words!
      During your first year in Bangor, whether you are a fresher, a transfer or a masters student, I would recommend to live in university accommodation to get to know some of the students and create some connections. Also, it's quite fun and the uni accommodation hosts CampusLife events for tenants to bond over movies, pizza, mountain walks, trips to Cardiff, etc. Most of the events are free!
      During your second year you will most likely be able to find nice people to live with in private accommodation and you will feel more comfortable around the city.

      Hi
      How are you!hope you're doing great and enjoying vacation times.
      by the way I need to know one thing under your great suggestion as always you gave .
      if we choose ffrioded village for living first year of the degree which hall would you recommend as all of their PPPW rent is same and I don't know much can you suggest the nice and clean hall you might have an idea as freshers need for his/her first year And what will be included in our living cost.And what is the payment method for freshers do we suppose to pay all before arrival or have to pay on monthly basis exactly what?.I would be glad enough for your reply as it will help me alot to made a deicion.looking forward from your side.

    • @georgeschnipper
      @georgeschnipper  7 лет назад +1

      Heya! Sorry for the late response.
      Unfortunately I haven't lived on Fridd site, I've only visited. However, I am pretty sure that they all look quite the same in terms of cleanliness and 'niceness'. The ones on St. Mary's though are much nicer I feel like. The bangor university website, have a look here:
      www.bangor.ac.uk/accommodation/halls/info.php.en
      describes what each hall is like pretty much. If it says that it's self-catered- it means that you will be cooking yourself. Most halls have cleaning staff come in once a week to clean the kitchen and the common floors. If you have any questions about a certain hall and what is included in the price, you could email halls@bangor.ac.uk
      In terms of paying, when you sign up for a hall via the university website, you will be asked to pick a payment plan. Your options will most likely be:
      1. You pay the accommodation cost 7 times spread throughout the year
      2. You pay 3 times a year
      3. You pay in a bulk sum
      To be honest, it's not really that important to decide on the day of applying for a halls what your payment plan will be. When you arrive at Bangor, you can always go to the Halls Office and ask them to change your payment plan, it shouldn't be any hassle.

      Hey! Thank you for watching and commenting :)
      Unfortunately I can't measure the bed now as I don't live in Halls anymore, but it's a queen-size bed for most of St. Mary's Village.
      I assume that the beds are 200 cm long, if that is your concern.
      You can always write to halls@bangor.ac.uk and ask them for the specific sizes. Hope I could help :)

You could of taken advantage of specsavers or boots while you were here. Could of picked up a decent pair of specs at reasonable prices.
