Just wanted to put a comment to reassure any international students watching this video about locals (I’m Welsh and I’m going to Bangor in September 2019) most British people seem cold but I promise you that if you say hello and start a conversation we’re all pretty decent, from my experience of growing up in Wales, most British people are lovely and welcoming we’re just generally more reserved so come across cold unintentionally
I'm late but I'm very excited to start Bangor soon and I thank you for making these videos and giving some insight :) also I'm loving the evolution of your look in your years there
Quick comment re paying for societies, societies used to be paid for by students who became members. When the tuition fees were raised in 2012 it was decided that given that students A LOT more to attend university societies should be free. The music society used to be independent from the union but because of the change they weren't allowed to charge and had to become part of the union.
Hi George :) Interesting perspective as always. I'll be coming to Bangor opening day this month, are there any places you'd recommend to check out while I'm there?
Hi Yasmin, thank you so much for watching this video! Honestly, I think one day is enough to see everything in Bangor. In one day you can see all the main uni buildings, the Pier, Roman Camp, go to a few places to eat and... well, that's pretty much it, you've seen Bangor. It's nice and cosy here, you won't have trouble getting around. My friends that visited me from outside of Bangor could get around by themselves in a matter of a single day.
George Schnipper Thanks George, that's reassuring. :) I'm headed there now, can't wait. Will hopefully get a chance to visit that coffee place from the earlier video. :)

For someone looking at Bangor which residence would you say is the best? Frif or St Marys? My main problem with St Marys so far is the big ass hill is it worth it?
Hey George 👋 I know this is an old video but I hope you reply if you have time 😊. My husband and I are both going to bangor after 2 weeks to study masters. We wanted to know If there is a family accommodation for us because we have a 2 year old kid 😅. Or if you know a nearby place that would offer students a good price for our long term stay. We really appreciate your help, it's our first time in wales and we can't find a good place online
Hi Esraa! Thanks for watching :) Yes, it’s been a while now. I’d have a look in Dafydd Hardy for private accommodation. If they can’t help, I know that Bangor uni has a student accommodation service that can help look for places around the city. Hope that helps.
Hey guys what is the cost of living in Bangor per month as a student? Do u have any ballpark figure in mind? People keep telling me it's more than 1600 pounds a month. If that's true, then it's just sad 😕
I want to apply to Bangor this year to start in 2019, it is my dream university and I love your videos. I was wondering if you are able to decorate your room, not paint it as such, but still make it your own? Thank you ☺️
Hey Jade! Thank you a lot for watching! Most rooms, I believe, have boards, where you can pin posters and photos. You can also hand stuff on the walls, as long as it doesn’t leave marks.
That's stupid that the British people weren't that social I don't see why we should have a problem with that since I'm guessing most people would have moved in from around the country so they should have experienced diversity and know that an accent doesn't change much. I think I would like Bangor though, like I would love to live near a beach, maybe even if its cold, and the aesthetic you mentioned seems like it would suit me. Though I'm not sure what I want from a uni town, like should I be putting myself out there with a big city? I do want to do a lot of extra activities though so having free societies is a plus. Sorry for the long comment but thanks for the video it was really helpful, I hope you're enjoying whatever you are up to now.
Hi George! Kind of sad to think in the near future your vids won't have the familiar Bangor backdrop anymore. Some of your best vids (IMO) are the ones set there, but hope your Masters application goes well.
Hi! I'm sorry, can't stay in Bangor forever. I don't think I can stay at any place forever, hahah) Bangor will always hold a special place in my heart, whether I like it or not. And thank you so much for supporting me for so long, it's been a couple years now, hasn't it?
Hey there, thank you so much for watching! You can get in touch with the international education centre of Bangor University by email or phone and they will let you know if you are eligible for some form of bursary or a grant which will make it easier for you to pay off your student loans
Hi Laura,I'm from Argentina and the Uni from Bangor they told me that International students have a fee of 2000 pounds per year.but please ask them so you can confirm this in your case.
Hi there! After uni I moved back to Russia where I met my current wife. Due to the current political situation, we had moved to Greece and starting a business here.
@@georgeschnipper Great, good luck, i was born and bred in Bangor and was shocked at your treatment of that vile troll who it seems would not leave you alone. Sadly, the Welsh can be like that
one of my favorite video!!!cool to hear, very sincere questions and answers, and MANGO !!:*** молодчинка что сделал, как финальный speech;) looking forward to see you ,weekend?
Bangor Uni has three welcome flags: in English, in Welsh and in Mandarin. Besides having very many students from China, I’ve met a great number of students from Pakistan, India, Singapore and Malaysia. I’ve also met a few from Sri Lanka, Japan, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and Uzbekistan.
Can you refer me to any forestry students. I’m thinking about coming for a semester to study. I’m a sophomore at the University of Maine which is next to Bangor Maine
Heya! If you are looking for Bangor University in Gwynedd, Wales, then I can try to refer you to somebody. Just let me know whether it's the British uni you are interested in, not the one in Maine
At 6:38 YOU say it's not very easy to make friends with locals? reason for that is because you seem very stuck up, and most probably the locals had seen your first video about Bangor and found it very insulting to there home. Like EVERYWHERE you go, we will always get some horrible people. The amount of STUDENTS i have met over the years have always commented on how friendly the people of Bangor are. So maybe your not a very FRIENDLY person, and that is why.
Hey there! Wow, you are actively commenting on all my videos! Very protective :) Okay, let’s get this straight. This is my own channel with my own opinions based on my personal experiences. I do no represent any organisation or anything. Moreover, I have had a couple dozen international students talk to me about how difficult it is to communicate with locals. By locals I mean British people, not just people from Bangor. There was an article by The Independent that described the Brits as “Boozy, ignorant, intolerant, but very polite”. It’s an interesting perspective that some internationals might agree with. It’s not just me, Kirstie, it’s a lot of international students. I want interested prospective international students to know what it’s really like to live here for three years. If you’ve lived in the UK your whole life- then yes, you don’t need to acclimatise to the British lifestyle and mentality. I’m not saying that all British people are tough to make friends with, I hope I was just unlucky and couldn’t really create a real strong friendship bond with locals.
this is your own channel with your own opinion yes it is. Your Chanel allows people to comment on your videos. So i have commented my opinion on 2 of your videos, because i am entitled to my opinion like you are entitled to your OWN opinion. If you don't like some comments people make you can always get rid of them. YOU should make yourself clear on you'r videos, when you say people are not easy to get along with in BANGOR, then you should have also mentioned that it is like that everywhere. You are making Bangor sound like a horrible place to visit. Bangor is not the best place to visit, you'r right there, but to keep bragging about how small it is to be a very small city, offends me just a little because i feel like your taking the piss out of my home. What if i was to visit YOUR home town then put a video up about how much of a dump it is? You would feel quite offended, but yet again that would just be MY opinion. Point is, you have said some horrible things about Bangor, which has offended me. If you mentioned SOME nice things about the place i would not have been so offended. Like how AMAZING the views are here, and how many places you can go to see these views up close. North wales is famous for the views not for the weather. Just expect to get comments like this on your videos if you want to insult a places.
Hahah, have you seen how many defensive Welsh people have commented on my "3 reasons why" video? You are not alone, I understand that you want to be protective. You can comment whatever you want, really, I appreciate feedback and the videos grab the attention of viewers the more comments they receive. Though, if you start insulting me or somebody else in the comments, that's when I flag it. Students come here because of the University (the education here is great, honestly) and first of all they turn the the Bangor University website where all the amazing views and sights are available, the University is proud of it's location and it's one of its main selling points for some prospective students. The University, however, does not show the other side of the coin, as it wouldn't benefit their reputation. This is where I come in, as I believe prospective students deserve to know what it's really like to live here.

It very much depends on you. St Mary’s halls are so much nicer, but, again, the 8-minutes climb up the hill can be dreadful
