    I work inspecting underground utility construction and see a lot of 8, 10, and even 12" SDR 35 sewer pipe laying around. They even make tee's and different bends for an all pvc frame. I need to start collecting! Great job guys. Think some 18" might even make a nice pontoon boat!

    Perfect for where I live. (Bayport, Florida) The Gulf of Mexico drops only one foot in depth for every mile. 2 Miles out, you're only in 2 feet of water. The big expensive boats have to travel between channel markers for 2 miles before they can even make a turn. This simple design, you boat when you want to. You don't have insurance or maintenance costs. You don't feel obligated to take the boat out because you pay for it whether you use it or not. Just a great all around, fantastic idea. If I used this once out on the Gulf, 5 people would ask me where I bought it. Great Job!!

      @@blake102989 The area ranges from about Cedar Key to about Hudson Beach and then it drops off. Yeah, here at Bayport, it drops only a foot a mile. Like a sand shelf. @@thomaskitlica5572 That's Pensacola. The east side of Florida drops off too but at Bayport, it drops one foot for every mile you go out. Been going out there for 40 years. 10 miles out, you are in 10 feet of water. I want to see you launch a boat at Bayport and make a turn outside the channel markers. Your boat just got stuck. lol. If they didn't dredge the bottom, making it deeper for 2 miles, you would never get a boat out there. What is partying on the Flats mean? People take their boats out, go outside the markers, drop an anchor and walk around in knee-deep water.
      I have to drive my butt off, straight out in the Gulf for 10 miles and how deep is the water? 10 feet!!
      At Hudson beach, it drops off quickly but not at Bayport. Look it up before you call someone a liar. The maps are online.
      You obviously have never been to Bayport.

    Great idea. I think the heavy wood did a lot to compromise your flotation. You can build it with just pvc pipes. If you use four pipes instead of two, two people could fish from that with ease.Also, using four of the pipes would eliminate the need for the angle pieces and the front caps, as the pvc pipes could be v-cut and then heated and shaped into modified cones, such as what you see on many pontoons. I couldn't have done better on a first attempt, so good job there.

      chud327
      Having the angles on the front is a must. The back could be cut flat or "pointed". Without that upward angle the pontoon could plow down under if you were to hit a high boat wake. It's a little far from wave ready but we all start out in steps. But the front pontoons must angle up enough as to never wind up under water then your a moving downward torpedo for a second and water WILL rise up quick between your legs lol along with anything in front of you on deck with it? Then there goes the Budweiser!

      That is a 64 Impala. Funny you would mention the car door closing, that is one of my favorite part of that car. The doors, after all of these years, shut better than a brand new cars (or just as good). I made a walk around video of this car and that was in the video. I would love to hear what you have to say about that whole video and thanks for watching.

    Why did you fill it up with foam?
    Air is lighter than foam, so you just make it heavier by adding foam inside the pvc...
    Is there some other reason?

      @@chud327 you can’t use normal expanding foam for more buoyancy, it will just prevent it from sinking. There is very specific expanding foam that does increase buoyancy. Regardless, still looks fun and it’s functional.

      Only way to increase the floatation (buoyancy) is to displace more water below the surface. In order to achieve this you'd have to add more toons, increase the length of them, or swap them out for a larger diameter pipe

    • @Strange-Viking
      @Strange-Viking 7 лет назад +1

      six6tysix yup. Positive buoyancy is also improved by flatness. Theoretically if you would roll out the pipe so it becomes flat there is more upwards pressure, allot of pressure is getting lost now due to a bit pressing on the sides and up instead of only up. For the very same reason stability would be increased. Though considering working with the materials at hand, swapping the smaller pvc for same size would be allot better. Placing just a 50cm long pipe on either side as outrigger will increase stability allot allot. That at or slightly behind the seat to keep manouvrability. That or a very shallow keel. The latter does not provide positive buoyance though.

      PVC PIPE
      Diameter =200mm
      Lenght = 3m
      ---------------------------------
      V = (0.1*0,1*3.14) * 3
      V = 0,0314 * 3m => V = 0,0942m³
      0,0942 m³ = 94,2Kg
      This is for one PVC PIPE with 200mm diameter.
      You have 2 main PVC PIPEs 200mm
      V = 0,094,2*2
      V = 0,1884m²
      Maximum weight = 188,4 Kg
      you need
      - 3 PVC PIPE, 200mm at 3m. or
      - 2 PVC PIPE 250mm at 3m
