A heartbreaking thing I see is people with mild conditions having unnecessarily bad interactions with the police, being gaslit, judged, or dismissed. When they openly share their vulnerabilities and are met with rejection or even fear of violence... they become too afraid to seek support. Too afraid to contact crisis lines because crisis lines may call the police. Too afraid to talk to doctors or therapists because they may contact the police. When they cut off friends and family due to fear of disclosing their suffering, because those who love them may turn to the police to check on them. To me, it's heartbreaking to see people retreat from society and support because the concept of trauma-informed policing is often a myth. You can't gaslight someone and claim to be trauma-informed. As I said, it's heartbreaking.
Does anyone who can make change, ever listen? Clearly, we have a problem. You only have to walk through Melbourne's cbd. Some people shouldn't be forgotten and left in the street.😢
As they said in the beginning, money is going towards mild to moderate. NDIS goes towards many people, but intensive people are to expensive, may seem to difficult or are so disengaged or afraid of the system that isn’t mailable enough to accomodate their needs.
