WE TRIED THE VIRAL PURSE COCKTAILS ON OAHU

Lanterns Restaurant and Tavern in Waianae is known for its local-style food and live music. Select cocktails are available in boozy bag glasses, but you can now get mini purses. The larger boozy bags require two people to order, while the mini purses do not. Still, it’s a large size for one person!
We started with appetizers like poke nachos, smoked meat Brussels sprouts and crab artichoke dip.
The nachos featured Wonton chips topped with fresh ahi (choice of spicy, shoyu ahi or half and half), unagi sauce, kewpie mayo, tobbiko and limu. Go with half and half to try both flavors
The Brussels sprouts were slightly soggy, but we loved the Papi’s smoked meat. The crab artichoke dip was my fave since it has blue crab and is super cheesy (Mornay and fontina cheeses).
On Fridays-Sundays only, the restaurant features a prime rib special - a 14-ounce cut with horseradish dill sauce, au jus and your choice of two sides. We recommend upgrading to one of the premium sides - the truffle Mac and cheese was delicious.
The prime rib (cooked medium rare) was tender and flavorful.
End with desserts like the chocolate chip cookie skillet or maple bacon bread pudding. The bread pudding is housemade, so we’ll have to try that next time.
