In this video Canadian Guitarist/producer Dean Wolfe reacts to Steve Hillage for the first time!
A LITTLE ABOUT ME: I'm Dean Wolfe, a mostly self-taught Canadian guitarist/composer/multi-instrumentalist/singer/producer/performer. I started out as a full time musician on the road at age 17 for two years, but went part-time ever since while holding day careers including as a chef and in spiritual health care while raising a family.
I've recorded hundreds of my own songs- many being used in media and award winning documentaries etc. I've been in several bands including a prog/jazz fusion act nFuze, performing in International Jazz festivals and jazz clubs. I abandoned the prog genre more or less back in the 1990s but have returned to it now with vigour a full 30 years later- so much prog I've ignored and quite frankly didn't have any idea about. My own prog band was rejected by record labels as "too progressive' in the late 80s, so i detoured into grunge, pop and alternative instead (then folk and acoustic fingerstyle guitar and ambient electric as well).

This is an old school masterpiece. If you have the time, I'd also recommend the album Space Shanty by Khan from 1972, which featured Steve Hillage on guitar and vocals. 🙂
I saw Steve Hillage and GONG quite a few times over the years from the late 70s onward. It was always a deep pleasure, I would walk out of the concerts with a dopey smile on my face.
Nice
If you have not heard it , "The Salmon Song"also on Fish rising its his signature tune, the greatest, most unique, composition by Steve Hillage. Its the ace in his deck of cards.I never tire of hearing it and play it over and over again. The rest of his stuff compels you to turn down the lights and smoke some pot. He is an amalgamation of all seventies bands. In his music you can hear influences of all the bands of that time.😊
Such an underrated fave. Glad you enjoyed it!
Underexposed maybe, certainly not underrated.
@@neilgrundy fair play!
Loved Steve Hillage back in the day and his effortless guitar playing. Rediscovered him a few years ago as System 7, banging out club sounds with his girlfriend Miquette. Top bloke.
One of my favourite albums. Its just so playful, doesn't take itself too seriously and the base and drums are brilliant. Thanks for sharing!
This is an excellent album, beginning to end. Several other of his solo albums are equally as good. I especially like “L,” the immediate follow up to “Fish Rising.” (Not to be confused with the Godley & Creme album “L,” a masterpiece of art rock from about the same time period, and well worth your attention.) Also be sure to check out Hillage with the band Khan. Their album “Space Shanty” is a Canterbury classic.
Hillage was the guitarist with Gong on many of their albums, and Fish Rising has a definite Gong sound to it. If you like this, try the Radio Gnome Invisible trilogy by Gong….awesome.
This is more or less a gong lp minus Daevid and Gilli and with some of Henry Cow and Hatfield and the North. You should check the live version of this from the gig he did at the Gong family Unconventional Gaathering in Amsterdam 2006.
Never heard of Hilage, good period piece, I hear a strong Beatles influence.
Best is Green by steve hilage imho
Please listen to soft machine’s third album starting with moon in June which is their more pop song with a crazy good ending. Then slightly all the time followed by bloody outrageous. Great stuff
It's like tubular bells before tubular bells.
Great album but the mix is a bit muddy.
Could do with Steve Wilson cleaning it up.
9/10 on the cannabis scale.
ps, Man, that Caravan organ Sound!
😂
@@deanwolfechannel If you haven't already, check out the recent Rick Beato with Ted Gioia (A Warning On the Future of Music). Excellent discussion.
Good choice but try l album song like lunar music suite and it's really nice 👌 👍 Dean try his live show from the 70s progressive rock at its best !
Pleased you liked the Hillage. Saw him and his band several times back in the 70s, always a good show. Here's another suggestion for you. Colosseum "The Valentyne Suite" - the entire side 2 - 3 parts. Jazz rock prog from 1969. ruclips.net/video/cKFrsm4wqpg/видео.html
I noticed you said Hillage sounds a bit like Allan Holdsworth. In fact, Holdsworth replaced Hillage when he left Gong. Please check out "Unzipping The Zype" (No, me neither).
Please react to Weidorje - Vilna
ok, I will Hishan!
