For the record, I still love grays as a grounding neutral. If you want a warm, cozy interior- specify grays tinted with browns and beige (greige). If you love the modern, industrial vibe - pair grays with black and chrome accents. What are some of your favorite ways to update gray?
In my kitchen I have Glidden Soft Sage on the Walls. Upper Cabinets is Canyon Echo, & bottom cabinets is Roma Haze Gray. The top cabinets are just a little lighter than the bottom ones. The types of Gray are more of a warmed up gray, like a putty Gray. Brushed Nickel round knobs. Everyone even on Social Media said they loved it. The countertop is a dark brown multi that came with the house. In my Living Room & Hallway I have Sherwin Williams - Crushed Ice. A very pale shade of Gray. We had to carry down the hallway as it’s kind of open concept. We have wood end tables & colorful art on the walls to warm it up. The carpet is also a light beige.❤
Great video. You didn't bash those with gray unlike tons of other designers...you gave practical way to update my space without spending tons of money. THANK You
This video wasn't just about ideas; it offered practical advice on DIY decorating with gray. From furniture choices to wall accents, the tips were down-to-earth and gave me the confidence to refresh my home without a major overhaul.
Thank you so much for this video. My contractor dad built me a house on a tight budget. He is a radical scrounge and so creative with materials so everything from appliances to flooring to paint has been bargained or begged and therefore we’ve got ALL that grey that everyone is getting out of to the habitat store. I am a vintage collector and love chairs and lamps and art, wood and metal from chrome to brass to hammered aluminum. I love using color and unique textures and materials. This video has given me the confidence to stick by my intuition and taste and warm this joint up! First stop: a few gorgeous (but affordable) rugs!
I love grey!!! Still have it and use it. I love that this is not a grey hate video as so many are. I am re painting my bedroom which was a darker grey but I am going lighter. My living area will be a light grey but I have colour accents in art, upholstery and lots of black. To me it feels balanced, comforting and still elegant. I just can not jump on the beige trend. even though it is not like the old beige. It just not make me feel comfortable.
Once you find a shade you love (gray or beige), you’ll find other items to complement the look. I can make a case for just about any color, the art is in the mix 😉
I still like gray. I just color drenched a large part of my master bedroom in Behr’s Antique Tin! It’s better than beige to me. What can I say? Just call me a rebel! 😎
I found the color palette suggestions in the video truly inspiring. Learning how to mix and match different shades of gray with pops of color revitalized my home decor and the simple explanations made it accessible even for someone with limited design knowledge.
My favorite way to liven up my gray is with vibrant colors. In my gray bedroom, I have a bag my mother brought me from the Philippines. It’s got a lot of colors, but it’s primarily hot pink. It’s a featured accessory hanging on my closet door. I also have art from the 1960’s with complimentary tones on the wall. Like you said, use it as a neutral and let it feature whatever you choose to layer on top. It’s also nice to use gray that has warmer tones, like in your friend’s custom design from 2010.
Beige is beautiful too as a neutral, but when the whole room is one color/ one note- we lose interest and it becomes sad and stale. I think that’s what happened to gray. We didn’t know what to pair it with so it was more grays, blacks, and whites! Yikes!
Hi Julie The pictures of these rooms had some really beautiful grey features. Like you said just adding that organic warmth in wood or natural materials made a difference. I especially loved those green dining chairs. What a transformation ! I’m sure plenty of viewers have been inspired by this posting. I never knew how well the orange browns went with grey. I always thought only black and white were good matches. So glad to see how this is done bc I think this would work with blues too! 🥰🥰
It definitely depends on what shade of gray you’re currently working with. Cool tones need the warmth of wood and even some rust-colored elements. I love how gray looks paired with color, very chic 🩶
I loved this video. Gray is working for me and my home, and this video is an inspiration to keep it current. Anytime I have ideas for my home I do not take action until I consult you----it is almost as if you are giving the creative support I need to move forward. I have been wanting to re-do the kitchen and just needed to have the why, when, were and how discussed with explanative images. Your smiling energy keeps me coming back. I find that loving my home by investing time, energy and releative minimal cost turns it into a personal nest to be proud of. Thanks for your input; your smiling energy keeps me coming back....
Awesome Awesome video Julie! Our entire 3 level house has the same Sherwin-Williams gray everywhere and I love it so much because I've used furniture, rugs and wall decor to liven and cozy up our home while the neutral gray keeps continuity through out and makes the open concept spaces even more light and airy! Even with bold color choices in some rooms, the gray can handle it! I agree with everything you said and I totally appreciate you recognizing that millions of homes now are still "very gray leaning" and you gave practical affordable ways to update or change things slightly without suggesting major remodeling. Sitting in front of a gray couch with your always lovely gray highlights was also a very nice touch!!!! Bravo!
I like gray, I always have. It goes well with just about every color. I don’t have gray furniture or walls, but a lot of gray accessories and I enjoy them. I have an off black sofa and matching love seat and gray pillows always accent nicely. I enjoyed this video on how to update gray decor, and not throw out anything gray because it’s outdated.
Great content. I just remodeled last year and lightened my whole house up, which I love. But now I see that the darker colors are coming in and I want to be on trend but I don’t want to darken my house again. I love your advice! I have warm white to tan walls and neutral furniture. I do have a mix of dark and light wood so I am going to go to my art, to add color and then pull in my drapes and accessories. Thank you again!!
I'm really glad I found this video on updating with gray in home decor. The easygoing style and practical suggestions make it feel like so doable. The visuals and creative ideas presented have given me a whole new perspective on using gray.
And you hit that one out of the park again ...! So I actually really love gray, and I have a lot of it throughout my space. I just find it so sexy, sophisticated, and in my home anyway, masculine. To infuse color, I've chosen mostly shades of teal throughout, with tiny touches of my favorite color deep purple. To warm it up I have some wood furniture and brass hardware. And for a touch of whimsy I have a few unexpected elements like crystal figurines. In my space the gray becomes the backdrop, allowing everything else to pop ... Regardless of whatever might be "IN" at the moment, I think the best colors to use will always just be the colors you love.
I really appreciate very much your advice and suggestions, Julie. Flooring in my home is white 24"porcelain tiles with hues of Grey, which is absolutely classy and beautiful. I have always liked Grey. Your enthusiasm is infectious. Great show.
Julie, Julie, Julie, you've done it again! Wonderful content, inspiring and practical. You keep it real, there's always something for folks on a budget. I love how you vibed off that Persian carpet. I'd seen those red painted recessed areas before but didn't know the context. Beautiful and auspicious!
Yes I did the grey furniture & grey floors… I have a grey house …. lol but I got on the grey train in 2002…..& just as you said highlighted with trending colors… I will always love grey…. Thanks for sharing!!!
Great video! My bathroom is gray marble with other colors running through it. I like the idea of green plants or plants on the countertop, adding bamboo blinds to the small window. You always help me in my home. Thanks so much.
Yes, but some of the colors we love now may have been re-introduced to us in a “trendy” manner. Can’t escape what the market dictates since they all trickle down into the design shops 😀
Great video and confirms that when combined with either pastels or jewel tones it can look great. I personally love the grey tones with off white , black and light brown combinations which is in my japandi decor. Updating and switching up the colors is part of the fun of keeping everything fresh and new.
I've liked a range of grey for quite awhile now. I've paired it with neutrals, pastels and aqua/ gold.( remember that combo with the chocolate? Yep, I did that too. But, recently I've paired it with neutrals, metallic and crystals in my home and lots of plants. I got lots of compliments so that will stay awhile. Besides it matches my hair now!!lol💜💜💜
I'm grateful to this video because I thrifted a new queen bed that's grey from top to bottom for my space that's been mostly natural woods... It was a steal but I kept feeling like it was a mistake and you reassured me on ways I can make it better❤ Love your vids!
I absolutely luv Gray from light to dark, cool to warm, I'll take it all. My last home in Wyoming (I left Cali in 12/2018 I moved there, my son was stationed there in US AIR FORCE) he purchased his first home in 2019 at the age of 23, 2 weeks after his bday. I decorated in Grays about 75%. I have dark walnut furniture that matched the dark walnut hardwood floors and kitchen cabinetry, the new appliances stove, microwave, dishwasher, refridgerater, were all stainless steel and the farmhouse sink was a greystone. It was so easy for me to just add what I already had from my Cali apt. As for color the only thing I will use for decor are my Crystals; Amethyst #1, Rose Quartz #2, Citrine #3, Smokey Quartz #4, and all Black Stones for protection. Because I am such a believer in Feng Shui since the '80s. I found FengShui or it found me shortly after high school grad 1982 I tend to follow all of its decor rules. I've never liked mirrors so you only see a mirror in the restrooms. I have luved Brass & Copper since I was a little girl. Have a great day Julie.
Yes, I still have some gray and I still love it! But I like the idea of adding some warm accents to the rooms. Thanks for your great advice! Loved this video!😊
My instant reaction was paint the grey cupboards and the smile on your face as you said was magical 😂. You the mentioned plants and I’m borderline a hoarder of them and nothing brings more joy than something alive. Love this channel despite not being particularly ‘into’ design or decor. My whole house is variations of pink as I’m the only one who decorates lol and I do as I please. Im then drawn to sparkles and bright colours , and if there’s a rainbow anything, I just buy it 🌈thrown it in randomly and hope for the best. I have learned here am an eclectic maximalist ( i think😂) with the exception of a grey velvet headboard . Your so cool 😎 xx
Even though I propose the subject, you don't disappoint. ^__^ I really like the pictures you used for this video, and the general concept of turning the gray (or any other neutral for that matter) into the supporting background of the main visual focus. Be it wall art, colorful pillows and throw blanket, rug, wood furniture, or statement curtains. Very inspiring. My only grey element would be a set of grey floor tile in the entry, not the 2010s grey, the 1990s one. When I bought the house, the front door was grey too and the walls were grey-ish turquoise. I changed the door for a fireman red one with stained glass, painted the room cream, with a light brass metallic wall paper and a art nouveau chandelier. No one is looking at the floor, I guarantee you. xD
We have gray through out our house. I have added navy, yellow and light blue to try to warm things up. I still struggle making it feel homey though because we have vaulted ceilings and I can't seem to get the decorating right. Loved your video, thank you so much. You are the first designer I have watched that hasn't encouraged changing the colors, but instead have offered solutions
I have gray , white walls , black and white photos . Not alot very minimal nothing on end table or coffee table . I did move a couple yrs ago and went that way . In time we all figure out how we want things . I look back at some styles I had and can't believe what was I thinking ! I'm 47 no kids home anymore , just 2 of us , so I'm done buying into trends . I want simple , cozy, and easy to clean .
My walls were builder gray until last week. Even though I had tried suggestions such as yours, it got to the point that I really felt the "prison gray" was holding me back from having the space I wanted. I decided it was time to fork out the $$$ to have painters repaint the walls, trim, AND ceilings. My home is now painted in a palette of off whites and blues. My husband wanted his own palette for his man cave and chose black moody walls :)
Greyt (haha) advice and examples. Grey is a neutral the same as white, beige, black, and wood. A foundation on which you build the colour story with accents. I’ve been in homes that are all white or all wood and find them to be as lifeless and drab as some people make grey out to be. Put colour where you want the focus.
Thank you for this video! It gave me a lot of ideas. The house that I bought five years ago - totally modern farmhouse style- is has had the same type of flooring as the last kitchen you showed/ designed. I even have those same upholstered counter chairs in my kitchen right now now. 😊 that being said I’m an artist and I do like the grey as a neutral backdrop for a lot of my things. But I keep hearing Grey is now so dated. I may sell my house in a few years to move to another part of the country and this video helped me immensely.
Thank you for this. I've always loved grey as a basic. There are some youtube decorator's who told people to STOP using cool greys. I would never use a decorator who eliminates a whole color tone, because sometimes its needed. Thamk you !
I can make a case for any and ALL colors! 🌈Can’t get on board with cancel culture though, it’s just not realistic when we have to work with what we have 🤗
I find this so interesting, because that trend did not make it in Europe, at all! No grey floors or walls or furniture. Maybe a couch or chairs or just a 'touch' of textiles. Never too much. Here, wood tones all over, either on modern decor or traditional. And traditional is really taking over right now!
Traditional is where my heart lies, so happy the youngins now are on board 🤎 It went REALLY cold and stark here in the US with a decade of grays. I’m trying to spread the light! 🌟✨🙌🏻😂
I’ve never been into gray. I’ve always leaned into earthy tones. I find my taste evolving into less is more. Less pattern, more solids and texture but still warmer tones. I personally love cream, rust and blue together.
Absolutely love this vlog Julie! I was guilty of jumping on the grey bandwagon a few years ago and yes we have an upholstered grey bed! Your advice couldn’t have come at a better time as we will be redecorating the master bedroom soon but the bed was really expensive so it’s staying put. Will definitely be taking your tips on board on how we can work with what we have. Looking forward to your next vlog ❤
You saw that gray bed segment Samta?! So much you can layer on with gray to make it recede, but still feel very stately 🩶 I’m warming up to cognac colored nightstands and a royal blue quilt! So chic 😍
Moving into a new house that has walnut kitchen cabinets and beige tone countertops. Challenge is still incorporating my medium gray kitchen table and couches into the space.
2021 we painted our bedroom grey and i love it. Clay grey walls and wardrobe and grey wallpaper on the wall behind the bed. Wallpaper have a little bit gold pattern in. Dark blue headboard. Brass handleds on drawers brass lighting except white ceiling lamp. Dark wood drawers and floor and Lavendel purple ceiling bedding and paintings whit different colored flowers including yellow and purple. White trim and curtains. Feels like a romantic cave :)
You were thinking “keep it neutral” 😅 just like the rest of us and now we need color again!! Try one tiny colored pillow and see where that takes you Ronda 🙌🏻
Perfect timing! I was watching your video in the process of ordering new bedding. We have gray walls, gray couch (cause I have kids, dog and cats so the couches are coming from Costco right now😄). And then you mentioned the gray headboard - guilty! Though mine has wood too. But even though it was a quick purchase, I only want to replace it if I find something antique that I love. I was about to buy a stormy blue comforter to go with a patterned duvet cover I just bought I looked around. Now I am seeing this color everywhere online right now but I already have a lot of it as an accent color - it’s the color of my leather coffee table, it’s in an armchair, I painted one side of my huge kitchen island the same blue, and then it is the color of the fabric of my outdoor furniture. My master is right off the main living area. So I decided to go with a stone/cream solid to go with the bedding so that my house wouldn’t look just blue and gray 😂 thanks for the help!
Thank you for the wonderful video, Julie! Grey is honestly my least favourite color, both in interior and exterior. To me it often feels lifeless, cold, unnatural, and office-like, everything a home should not be. However, grey can work really well when present in materials that often are grey in their raw or natural state. Examples being stone, tile, cement, wool, and aged wood
Love this! Especially your examples. Very helpful. I'd like to know more about how to combine different colors. Like you mentioned yellows, oranges? More please! ❤😊
We love our gray furniture and carpet. We add color with artwork and pillows and accents. The people that think they are the professionals feel that they can dictate how we should decorate our homes. I am interested to see how their homes are decorated. Everyone needs to follow their own guidelines of what feels comfortable for them. I know that some people make terrible choices, but that’s just something that they need to live with then.
I never got on the gray trend. It seemed too sterile. Im still on the khaki and tan trend..old school. I've only seen a few people that can decorate with gray and make it look warm and inviting. I do like the charcoals and grieges. Done right, it can be really beautiful. Love your examples of rooms done right with gray.
With khaki and beige the trend has caught back up to you. I am seeing a lot of those tones now. Just goes to show- stick with what you love and you won't regret it.
I made a teal ottoman cover with piping to go with the sofas (came as 3 piece). Am going to make covers for the sofas in a light neutral (not sure what colour yet as I’m making the neutral curtains first). Also replacing the saggy seat cushions and lowering the back cushions for a more modern look at the same time. Just painted a blanket box charcoal that I’m using for a coffee table so it reads dark grey to black during the day. Looks great. Painting the walls white toned down the grey. Put a tree next to one sofa. Only got grey sofas as they were the only colour they came in.
Sounds like you have more color than grays Fiona! Which would make the chairs act as a background. Try adding colored throw blankets to pull more color into the LR 👏🏻
@@JulieKhuu Yes, thanks! Have some throws, and cushions and going to make some especially in velvet and leather. I’ve made a black woven faux leather cushion front but haven’t finished the back yet. I’ve got some colour in my artwork. I’m going to make a long office desk with a light grey marble laminate kitchen bench for my bedroom. It’s subtle but will be perfect.
Soo appreciate this video, hubby n I are down sizing into a smaller bedroom which was recently painted grey. Thought about painting it as our furniture is a brown upholstered headboard and beige furnishings. Will keep the grey as furniture will warm up the grey. Let’s see how well I do! Love your videos!
Julie, it video is just what I needed. I have a gray sofa and I was thinking of upgrading the look BT changing my throw pillows, maybe using some blues and pinks as you depicted!!! Thanks! You never disappoint 🤗
So gorgeous, Julie. And I want your hair style! Yes, I have a lot of gray (and white) , but I'm punching it up with cobalt blue and gold. Didn't know I would love emerald chairs (stunning) , but can't do it right now.
I just bought a gray velvet headboard to add a bit of change to my all white bedroom and painting a gray accent wall. I was worried that throwing a few beige blankets around might not work, but looks like maybe it might warm it up and look ok!
We moved into a new house 3 years ago & every wall & ceiling is grey!!! Fortunately the kitchen cabinets are a shade of white to relieve the gray. I’m finally ready to get bids to change the ceiling color
I love grey. Thinking of redoing my kitchen painting the pantry cupboards with olive green and my floor has yellow tiles and the walls are yellow too. Just want to try the olive green ❤
I moved into my townhouse 5 years ago and the interior was painted with 3 different hues of gray.. It is attractive but can make the inside feel very dark depending on the time of day and sunshine, or lack of. The previous owner also tiled small gray granite stone around the fireplace....I feel stuck. Your video was very informative...Thank You!
Grays started long before 2010. I was looking for a new house in 2002. I looked at a model home that was painted stem to stern with gray. I was smitten. So there has been some version of gray moving through our homes for the last 20 years. I expect it will be with us for many years to some degree or other.
Great timing for this video as I'm struggling to determine an accent color in my bedroom to keep things calm, someone muted, and somewhat contemporary. I have BM Nightingale AF-670 on my walls, light oak woodwork, a little bit darker, plain grey duvet, black nightstands and headboard, a fake tree next to my Eames Molded Plywood Lounge Chair in the corner, and contemporary black lamps with white shades. My favorite color in the whole world is plum (or purple) and would love to know if there's a certain BM color that could accompany this grey nicely as I'm terrible with color! I could then pick up that swatch to shop for accessories like bed pillows, curtains, whatever! Love your videos - you are the best!
I love Farrow & Ball’s Brinjal and Behr’s Vintage Merlot, both in the aubergine family Robin! If you find artwork or a fabulous area rug with those tones, you can pull in even more color to help ground the plums. Greenery/ plants 🪴 would make a fabulous addition 👏🏻
This video couldn’t have come at a better time. I just moved and still love grey and you are giving me so many ideas how to update my grey. I’m resurfacing my kitchen cabinets but don’t want white and keep coming back to grey. Afraid if I go blue I’ll get sick of it. Anyone got an opinion?
I have grey color walls in the dinning room. I have grey sofas too. 😂 I have incorporated colorful pillows on the sofas and an ocean art print on the dinning room wall. Thank you Julie you are the greatest. How about pink for your next color series. 🩷🩷
For the record, I still love grays as a grounding neutral. If you want a warm, cozy interior- specify grays tinted with browns and beige (greige). If you love the modern, industrial vibe - pair grays with black and chrome accents.
What are some of your favorite ways to update gray?
I should have mentioned I have the (greige) color on the wall & neutral furniture adding some blue/ green color with curtains, rug & pillows.
I update the gray walls and sofa with color in the wall art
In my kitchen I have Glidden Soft Sage on the Walls. Upper Cabinets is Canyon Echo, & bottom cabinets is Roma Haze Gray. The top cabinets are just a little lighter than the bottom ones. The types of Gray are more of a warmed up gray, like a putty Gray. Brushed Nickel round knobs. Everyone even on Social Media said they loved it. Well, we can’t all change our homes at the drop of a dime. But we can elevate it with strategic touches 🙌🏻🩶
This video wasn't just about ideas; it offered practical advice on DIY decorating with gray. From furniture choices to wall accents, the tips were down-to-earth and gave me the confidence to refresh my home without a major overhaul.
That’s awesome and exactly what I was going for Nicholas 🙌🏻 thank you for stopping by!
Thank you so much for this video. My contractor dad built me a house on a tight budget. I have a grey bedroom with eggplant accent and I love it! Grey, in my opinion, goes with pretty much any color.
Absolutely! Gray needs an accent color (or two) to really come alive! 🩶💜
I love grey!!! Still have it and use it. I love that this is not a grey hate video as so many are. I am re painting my bedroom which was a darker grey but I am going lighter. I love classic charcoal grey and caramel with warm gold accents. Fantastic uplifting video!
Classic combination 🩶💛👏🏻
Julie, I was smiling from ear to ear watching this video. Thank you for all the great tips!!!
Thank you for watching Paula 🙏🏻😊

I went moody in my bedroom and kept it light and bright everywhere else! Keeps the house looking fresh and happy 😊
Gray is one of my fave! Your advices on modernizing gray interiors while keeping them warm and inviting is so helpful!
So glad I can help bring new light to cool grays Patricia! I personally love greige, I find it very sophisticated 🩶
One of the most comprehensive videos addressing how to decorate with grey..well put together. Thank You🙏
Thank you for watching 🙏🏻🩶
I'm really glad I found this video on updating with gray in home decor. The easygoing style and practical suggestions make it feel like so doable. The visuals and creative ideas presented have given me a whole new perspective on using gray.
Seeing is believing 🙌🏻🩶
You are my favourite interior designer in this space with your amazing smashing of points. I loved how you explained Feng Chui concepts.
Be blessed.
Thank you so much for your love and support 🙏🏻🩷💕
And you hit that one out of the park again ...!
So I actually really love gray, and I have a lot of it throughout my space. I just find it so sexy, sophisticated, and in my home anyway, masculine. Masculine when the gray leans cool, feminine when tinted with brown- I find gray so versatile 👏🏻🩶
I really appreciate very much your advice and suggestions, Julie. Flooring in my home is white 24"porcelain tiles with hues of Grey, which is absolutely classy and beautiful. I have always liked Grey.
Your enthusiasm is infectious.
Great show.
Beautiful and timeless Betty! 🫶🏻🩶
Thank you so much Susan! I hope to offer more ideas for working with what you already have 🤗🩶
Yes I did the grey furniture & grey floors… I have a grey house …. lol but I got on the grey train in 2002…..& just as you said highlighted with trending colors… I will always love grey…. Thanks for sharing!!!
Now we can start adding on some more fun colors to freshen up the neutral! Which is what I love about gray as well, it’s versatile!
Great video! My bathroom is gray marble with other colors running through it. I like the idea of green plants or plants on the countertop, adding bamboo blinds to the small window. You always help me in my home. Thanks so much.
The woven shades will bring some warmth as well. Amazon has a bunch of options in all sizes Yvonne!
I just Love grey! It’s elegant and fresh
Unusual and unique ideas for grey. I have been feeling funny about this with other's opinion. I'm now enlightened!
Gray is lovely as the supporting cast. I don’t see main character energy tho, I need a warmer hue involved 🤔
Thanks for not bashing grey decor. Great video.
Thanks for watching! I still love gray, just not from floor to ceiling 🩶
i painted my walls gray in my open floor plan b/c no matter what colors i change in pillows fabric ect. gray compliments those colors
It’s a nice departure from basic white 🙌🏻
My home walls are blues and common area is Mindful Gray. It’s a warm gray and I am getting a fresh coat of it this month. Still love it.
It’s a beautiful gray, reads very warm 🤎🩶
Your suggestions and ideas are all so practical and timeless.
Thank you for watching and sharing feedback 🙏🏻
Funny. I just changed my bedroom drapes, bed sheets, comforters, in light gray...and I am loving it. Thanks Julie.
Sounds great Lydia! Just enough color to make white rooms more interesting 🩶
Hi Julie, i love neutrals and i stay away from "trendy" colors that will be out within two years. I think the best colors are the ones we love.
Yes, but some of the colors we love now may have been re-introduced to us in a “trendy” manner. Can’t escape what the market dictates since they all trickle down into the design shops 😀
Well your nail polish with that grey is FLAWLESS!!!
I love earth colors. I hope you’ll come up with decorating with green soon. Thank you ❤
Green is up next Maria 💚
I love navy with gray tones
So chic! Add something warm like rust for some contrast 🧡
Great video and confirms that when combined with either pastels or jewel tones it can look great. I personally love the grey tones with off white , black and light brown combinations which is in my japandi decor. Updating and switching up the colors is part of the fun of keeping everything fresh and new.
Absolutely! Browns and creams warm gray right up! Very chic combination 🩶🤎🤍🖤
Haha gotta love a space that matches your personality (and hair woohoo 🙌🏻)
Thanks for another great video Julie, you’ve given us a lot of good ideas that we plan to use on our mom’s interior.
Awesome 👏🏻 my Mom’s house was my laboratory back in the day. It went gray for a bit 😅 Now it’s blank slate white lol
I'm grateful to this video because I thrifted a new queen bed that's grey from top to bottom for my space that's been mostly natural woods... It was a steal but I kept feeling like it was a mistake and you reassured me on ways I can make it better❤ Love your vids!
I had a room that was too warm. Too much amber brown and terra cotta. I brought in a mid tone grey comforter with beige trim and it saved the day!!
All rooms need a bit of contrast to make the finishes shine 👏🏻🩶
I love gray too 😊 I like pairing and updating it with various hues of wood.
Just not gray wood 😂
You sound like a girl after my own heart Dahlia! I love how intentional you are about bringing in more color through crystals! 😍💎🫶🏻
I love grey, thank you for all the wonderful tips.
You are so welcome! Thank you for watching Tammy 🩶
@@JulieKhuu 🌷
Your gray velvet headboard allows all the other colors to come alive! Nice move 👏🏻🌈
Even though I propose the subject, you don't disappoint. ^__^
I really like the pictures you used for this video, and the general concept of turning the gray (or any other neutral for that matter) into the supporting background of the main visual focus.
No one is looking at the floor, I guarantee you. xD
Love that! Bring the eyes UP Marianne! That is what I call good design my friend 🙌🏻👏🏻
I’m the same way Melinda. Except our toddlers are very much in the mix 😅 Clean, simple, low maintenance is the way to go! 👏🏻
The more wood tones you add to the space, the warmer and cozier it will feel Debbie 🪵
I think decorating with gray feel approachable and enjoyable. Liked it julie!
Yay, thank you for watching 🙏🏻☺️
My walls were builder gray until last week. Even though I had tried suggestions such as yours, it got to the point that I really felt the "prison gray" was holding me back from having the space I wanted. I decided it was time to fork out the $$$ to have painters repaint the walls, trim, AND ceilings. My home is now painted in a palette of off whites and blues. My husband wanted his own palette for his man cave and chose black moody walls :)
Sounds like everyone got what they wanted Cristina! Digging an all black man cave, looks especially amazing with light colored furniture
Julie, I challenge you to the purple family, cools and warms! Have fun!!
Oof ok I got this 😅💜
Thank you for the ideas. You are very realistic in your recommendations
Glad you like them! Thank you for watching 🙏🏻🩶
Thank you. Wonderful advice. Will surely do some.
Thank you for watching 🩶🙏🏻✨
Thank you for this video! It gave me a lot of ideas. The house that I bought five years ago - totally modern farmhouse style- is has had the same type of flooring as the last kitchen you showed/ designed. I even have those same upholstered counter chairs in my kitchen right now now. 😊 that being said I’m an artist and I do like the grey as a neutral backdrop for a lot of my things. But I keep hearing Grey is now so dated. I may sell my house in a few years to move to another part of the country and this video helped me immensely.
I have a light gray bathroom with tan and light blues. We also carried those colors into our living room with accents of beige
The beige will warm those cool tones right up 👏🏻
Yes please! More color videos! 😊
Green is up next Kathlene! 💚
Bronze fixtures look really good with gray too. We just did our master bathroom and it looks great.
Oh yes! 🙌🏻
Great video with heaps of 'useful' advice. Thank you for sharing.
Fabulous video as always, Julie! Suggestion for your next color feature: green!
Yup, green is up next!! 💚🙌🏻
Thanks for your tips! I liked the idea of updating a mirror in a gray room.
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching Becky 🙏🏻☺️💕
Sounds lovely! You illustrated how to use gray sparingly, but in a meaningful way 👏🏻
Yes! I have a gray sofa and brown chairs in my livingroom that I am struggling with. Not sure what I was thinking!
You were thinking “keep it neutral” 😅 just like the rest of us and now we need color again!! Try one tiny colored pillow and see where that takes you Ronda 🙌🏻
I just had my bedroom painted a dark grey and love it next the lounge room and dinning room
Dark and moody, I’m into it! 🩶
I love you hair color. You look great. I love gray walls with white and wood.
Haha sounds like you’re ready for another bold accent hue!! Maybe rust or cognac in the form of leather or velvet? 😍
@@JulieKhuu I ordered some tan leather pillows last week 😁
Another great video Julie!!
Thank you for watching Chris 🩷
Tx so much my bed is grey, i just got some good tips from your video to redecorate it.❤❤❤
Yay awesome! What colors are you thinking to add?
No thanks on pink accents but I love adding the right shades of blue and yellow along with colorful art work. Thanks for this great video!
Thank you for watching Paula! 🙏🏻🩶
Exactly. Look to nature to see how grays blend with other naturals hues. You’ll be surprised to see that they’re never ALL gray! 🙌🏻
Love this! Especially your examples. Very helpful. I'd like to know more about how to combine different colors. Like you mentioned yellows, oranges? More please! ❤😊
I’m loving sunset hues for 2024! I’ll line Orange and yellow up next Joy! Thank you for watching 🙏🏻✨
@@JulieKhuu I love blue's & greens. So definitely like to learn how to add the pop of yellow/orange 🧡
Your home should be your own personal laboratory to experiment and have fun! 🩷
Hey Julie, I LOVED this video. Great advice.
Thank you for watching and commenting Gina 🙏🏻🩶
I never got on the gray trend. It seemed too sterile. Im still on the khaki and tan trend..old school. I've only seen a few people that can decorate with gray and make it look warm and inviting. I do like the charcoals and grieges. Done right, it can be really beautiful. Love your examples of rooms done right with gray.
With khaki and beige the trend has caught back up to you. I am seeing a lot of those tones now. Just goes to show- stick with what you love and you won't regret it.
I agree, greige is so easy to pair. Cool gray is where it feels industrial and masculine 🩶
Thank you so much. This is very helpful and doable for me.
Yes! Let me know how it goes! Maybe add an accent color to shock the space a bit 😉
Julie, it video is just what I needed. I have a gray sofa and I was thinking of upgrading the look BT changing my throw pillows, maybe using some blues and pinks as you depicted!!! Thanks! You never disappoint 🤗
Look for colorful artwork or an area rug first Barbara. You might be inspired by new color combinations that will make the room feel more cohesive 🩶
Great suggestion! I would’ve thought of colorful artwork. Right now I have black & white abstract artwork in my living room.
I have grey walls in living room dining room combo I use woods and different colors though out it Thank you for sharing tips.
❤
I love rich walnut paired with grays, such a chic combination when the woods aren’t too distressed ☺️🩶
i am trying to add more chrome silver etc. great video this week!
Silver is HOT for 2024! I made a video about it, design trends with staying power coming up next week Carol! 🩶
So gorgeous, Julie. And I want your hair style! Yes, I have a lot of gray (and white) , but I'm punching it up with cobalt blue and gold. Didn't know I would love emerald chairs (stunning) , but can't do it right now.
When you’re ready for color, just know what gray can act as a beautiful base to layer upon Beverley! 🙌🏻
Wow, Julie! You actually made me kind of like grays. lol
If I had gray, I'd have to have pink too. ;)
The perfect combination if you ask me 😉🩶🩷
I just bought a gray velvet headboard to add a bit of change to my all white bedroom and painting a gray accent wall.
Should be the easiest change for a complete transformation Marilynn! 🙌🏻
I love grey. Thinking of redoing my kitchen painting the pantry cupboards with olive green and my floor has yellow tiles and the walls are yellow too. Just want to try the olive green ❤
Try an olive green gray, best of both worlds 🙌🏻🩶💚
Ive made all the grey mistakes, grey on grey on grey. No color pops. Definitely on the hunt on how to warm up my cold home in practical ways. 🥴
Find a palette you love (take a screenshot from this video!) to help direct your next design moves 🤗
Keep the stone, paint the walls Nancy! That stone will look so elevated as a result 🩶
Great suggestions. Thank you
Grays started long before 2010. I was looking for a new house in 2002. I looked at a model home that was painted stem to stern with gray. I was smitten. So there has been some version of gray moving through our homes for the last 20 years. I expect it will be with us for many years to some degree or other.
Gray isn’t going anywhere. It will resurface with varying shades 🩶
You can go half/ half- best of both worlds 🙌🏻
I love all your videos…
Grey goes with any colour even gold
Hi Julie, great content! I would like to see designs with the color taupe!!!
I did a few in 2023, check out how to make neutral not boring to start ☺️🤎
I will! ❤
Needed this! ❤
I got you 🙌🏻🩶
I have grey color walls in the dinning room. I have grey sofas too. 😂 I have incorporated colorful pillows on the sofas and an ocean art print on the dinning room wall. Thank you Julie you are the greatest. How about pink for your next color series. 🩷🩷
Millennial pink for the win! I’m on it Taty! Thank you for watching 🤗💕
