Did a TDI swap into my Vanagon. It was a 1.6NA originally too. This is a sweet build. The mileage and space makes this so practical in a utilitarian sense. It must be such a treat.
Congrats James great job with your kub! My buddy rich is almost done with his kub now hes put about 4 miles on his bhw swap. I put mine away for the season last month need to get my rover injection pump rebuilt (My ahu mtdi swap is running on a 1.6 na injection pum right now LOL) or might follow your lead and swap this alh out of my 01 beetle just need to get some money together. Yours is so nice now though good job! Cant wait to see it in person one day we need to get all three of them together for a picture.
@@codyjones7987 oh right right right - of course. He has the kubvan that I looked at before I got mine! Hell yeah, I’d love to meet up with you guys. ‘25 is gonna be pretty busy but we’ll make something work
I would put ridex sound deadening in the inside. Then use wood slats and black fabric on the ceiling (fabric underneath the slats, that go one in one space one in (andsoforth)). That would look awesome. Then use wood panels against the wall. Finish them in a stain. That's a relatively fast job. And it would look gorgeous. If you use brass strips to finish the interior it would look like a million bux. If you do so, then paint the brass strips before you assemble with clearcoat.
@@flopdockmcock that’s what I paid for this one! In uh… pretty similar condition by the sounds of it. Sadly, I don’t think $4K is too bad a deal if the body was in OK shape. Trouble is, I’ve seen a lot of these really beat to hell… I got lucky with this one.
@JamesCooperider the one I saw was worse, looked like it wasn't moved in 30 years. Overgrown shit all around it, tires 8 inches into the dirt, inside exposed to the elements. Real rough.
Yes! There’s a 2-piece pan with a steel lower available but I’d like to make something to cover the pan entirely… maybe something I work on this winter
It’s a “static ground strap.” The guy I bought it from was excited to tell me all about it although I’m not sure what a piece of rubber does for static electricity control 🤣
The true is VW built those to try to secure government contracts. They were offered to any government agency who would wanted them. Unfortunately none excepted, likely because of the foreign base vehicle.
The TDI can be chiptuned from 90 hp up to 150 hp. The 2 liter comes with a 6 speed manual. I think that would be a great upgrade and be good for fuel economy.
Idk if you guys have it in North America but in Europe there is a 150hp/110kw1.9tdi from factory. But it was mostly installed on mk4 Golf 4 motions and Bora (Jetta) 4 motions and some fwd models. It could be chipped to about 175hp/130kw with ease. Engine Code: ARL
A small five speed work van..........What a cool thing you have there. Life should be this good.

Cool mod, great video!!
Great timing

I couldn't help but to smile at how familiar Grumman ownership is :) Absolutely love this build, I enjoyed watching this
Elegant solution, so now you don't have to swap in an 07K☺
You make me want one of these vans so bad! I saw one for sale last year but it was pretty rough, non running and they wanted 4k for it

This is my kind of cool!
Love it
So cool! I need that motor mount. Would it fit an '05 Beetle 1.9 TDI w/DSG?
@@LoveFineArts yeah it’s basically the same part I used in this video!
Would you consider doing a skid plate to cover the oil pan? Great video!

i love these so much. Would be a perfect winter car too, no body rot!
I wish my mail was delivered in a van this cool. Nice build!
I really want to take a Kubvan to Lemons one day but I doubt it'd ever pass inspection lol
very nice, what it hanging down from the front of the engine?

I want one of those brackets for my build
imagine fully loading that thing with postal, and the 52hp the engine makes, while putting it to the ground with a 3 speed
With a top speed of (maybe) 45mph. YIKES!
@@JamesCooperider And returning 45 mpg whilst doing it?☺
@@JamesCooperider I personally just picked up a 1984 VW rabbit with a 1.6 diesel. Any tips for the first gen rabbits?
Have you towed a trailer with it?

This channel really makes me miss my first car...an 81 Rabbit diesel, canary yellow 2 door hatch.

If "most original build" was a competition, you'd be winning
YOO! Nice to see ya here man and thank you! 🍻
That’s awesome. How did you know the mk4 dog bone would work out?
Looks a fun drive! You must be spoilt for choice every time you need to go somewhere
When I saw the thumbnail I thought you cut up one of those rare civilian LLVs haha, I didn't know about the Kubvan at all!
ECS Tuning was one of my go-to when I had my 01 Beetle. Boy did I need a lot of parts. 🙄😂
