    I was making the same mistake, ending with too many stitches. The pattern is 18 stitches, I wanted a baby blanket so I marked each pattern or 18 inches. My baby blanket is 180 stitches. . . I will have that pattern repeated 10 x 18 is 180. Mark each eighteen stitches, so you know where to find your mistake. Thank you so much for your pattern it is truly beautiful and my granddaughter will love it. Thank you for sharing.

    Can you guys do simple math. To do what you suggest in Row 3 takes 42 stitches. 18 +18+6=42. In case you are unaware, 42 is NOT a multiple of 18! Get it together!

      ***** Does blocking work the same for synthetic yarns as it does for natural fiber yarns? I know not to work natural fibers to aggressively while blocking or you felt the fibers..

      ***** I knitted up a swatch, blocked it and the pattern is beautiful when blocked but the edge curl came right back up. So I will start over and put a few rows of ribbing or ??? to keep the edge flat. I am learning about knitting as I go. Learned a lot with this project. Thanks for your help and I still love this pattern...

    • @knittingstitchpatterns

      Tish Westman I don't know how to help. You can cast on a multiple of 16 sts plus 2 (or 4) edge sts if you want them

    hi mam I think this is not either feather and fan or old shale in feather and fan after pattern row there should be a knnit row. in old shale stitch first two rows are knitt rows third row pattern row and after that a purl row but in this u did like knit purl pattern and purl isn't it why don't we call this stitch as peacock tail because this pattern is looking like that what do u say friend. have a nice day

      @@knittingstitchpatterns That doesn't make them right, because ravelry isn't an incorrupt source of information. If you Google old shale stich, you will read over and over and over that Old Shale is NOT feather and fan. Feather and fan is a 14 stitch repeat that results in a parallel row of eyelets. This can seem like a stickler's issue, but it's getting difficult to find the pattern for the true feather and fan stitch, because crafters are not being careful with their words.
      You also failed to address that you're working the rows incorrectly and getting a different result for either old shale OR feather and fan. I've included a reference below.

    I keep ending up with many more than 18 stitches. What am I doing wrong?? Also I want to make a cardigan out of this shape. What can I do if I wanna cast on more than 18 stitches? With just 18 it turns out tiny. :/

    • @samg3730
      @samg3730 6 лет назад

      Ms Chrys V. You cast on multiple of 18 until you’ve reached the desired length. Pay attention to yarn overs . Maybe that’s why you’re ending up with too many sts.
