Styrofoam is a brand name for foam, people call many things Styrofoam which they are not. EPS / Extruded Polystyrene is what many people call Styrofoam. Actually, this material is excellent for damp environments because it is made of EPS. We have been using and selling EPS products for 13+ years and never had any issues with mold growing behind them.
The are made of EPS ( foam ) they are not very durable and not recommended for high traffic areas. We do carry wall panels made of PVC which are durable and also recommended for commercial installation: www.decorativeceilingtiles.net/4x10-mirroflex-wall-panels/
Some damage is expected as the installation is meant to last using the glue in the video. However, you could choose another way of installing if you are planning to remove them. We have seen people using velcro, double sided tape, pins etc for temporary installs.

No it not going to damage the wall but you must be careful with it when installing so as not to damage the tiles and you can use effostic gum
