@Mrfatparakeet1 That pinch harmonic sound is actually a harmonic squealy using natural harmonics. basically you don't fret the not, just touch the string in a certain spot and it changes the vibration of the string. Be careful not to mute the string. Then you pull back on your tremolo. As far as sweep pickin in this solo, none. Mainly legato, but there is some fast alternate picking between strings at times.
@Martyfriedman001 The only way to really learn by ear is by learning the notes on the guitar and learning to recognize each one individually. It's something that comes with time and practice.

Mmmm mmm mmm that's a tasty solo. Also ESPs are (in my opinion) the best feeling guitars you can get. I'm gonna buy an ESP m-300fm ASAP. They just feel good to play.

The best people at any skill are those that mix God-given talent with extreme hard work (I'm an ESS major who studies Motor Learning and Behavior).. some people have the best of both worlds and you really can't beat someone with enormous potential mixed with brutal hard work. i never thought i would be able to sweep pick or hammeron/pull off like a boss but i can tap some insane legato runs and sweep pick pretty good. work at it and you will accomplish it.

@TomEd171 I'm sure Dime never thought he was quite as good as his main influence EVH, either. and something i read from Dime in a GW column said this. "the best advice i ever got from my dad was 'play your own stuff' and that's what I did." you don't have to know solos note-for-note. pick up the nuances you like best from his style, perfect them, and use them. you don't have to be a robotic cover artist to pick that stuff up either.

Pinch harmonics don't involve touching the fretboard, and you can see he's not sweeping anything here.
