    A sound that no band of that time or even in 2019 have duplicated. It’s besides production...it’s pure talent.
    Oh and also..that’s a single bass pedal.

  • @Tonzeff
    @Tonzeff 5 лет назад +30

    John Bonham only used a single bass drum and was hugely in favor of playing triplets with that bass drum and tended to sync with the guitar (Jimmy) rather than the traditional bass (John Paul Jones)

      One rock God to another?
      They all inspired each other and drove each other to higher and higher heights (Beatles and Beach Boys perfect example) and it was infectious.
      So many great great megabands in that period and the mighty Led Zeppelin were definitely one of them.

  • @funkster007

    What a debut for a band huh. I bet this tune got everybody's attention back in '69. I agree with Rich, that double bass kick is gold....even though that's Bonham doing that with one kick pedal, which makes it even more amazing.

    Another album that was an influence on the development of heavy metal ( besides Cream and Hendrix) was Jeff Beck's "Truth" album, which came out the year before (1968). By 1971 you had an enormous number of bands ( eg. Mountain, Procol Harum [with Robin Trower] , Zappa, even early Chicago) taking advantage of the strides being made in guitar amplifiers and effects boxes.

But when I look back to when I had my first's with all those iconic songs it was on the the stereo, volume cranked up as much I dared. When you use headphones or earplugs you won't feel the punch in your stomach, the chair rocking, the floor vibrating. The joy of feeling good music!

    Hi guys, I remember bringing this album home from my local record store when it was first released and I drove mum crazy playing it over and over. I used to play a lot of music in my room....often loud. Funny thing was I left the UK to move to Australia in 1972 and in one of her letters she said she always expected to hear something loud coming out my room and she admitted she kind of missed it. At least she knew I wasn't out doing drugs or getting into trouble. She died in 2001.

    It is a pleasure to watch you two. Rich not only do you choose great songs to review (I am a sucker for really great musicianship), but it is obvious you know your music. I also love how Kel has a real appreciation for quality songs and musicianship. She is not afraid to show her appreciation, (not too cool to let it hang out). The greatest thing however is the Chemistry between you two. I have watched a lot of On-line Reviewers on RUclips, but you have become my favorites. I have subscribed. I used to like Modern Renaissance Man, but he has become so self-promoting and never really talks about the songs and the musicianship like he did when he started out.

    This was one of the first 'real' songs along with 'Day Tripper' and 'Aqualung' that I learned to play on guitar.
    It was tabbed in the March 1985 issue of 'Guitar For the Practicing Musician'. If I managed to learn it on my own as an untrained musician back then I'm sure that Kel can master it in no time at all.

    Since the day this song came out, drummers have been trying to duplicate his double bass trick with one bass pedal like he did, and to this day it's the litmus test for a drummers right foot prowess. Some can do it, most cannot, I can sort of do it, but not with precision, but I keep on trying just the same.

    Not everyone knows that drummer John Bonham of Led Zeppelin with playing that bass drum beat fast with one foot on one bass drum and not two bass drums on the Led Zeppelin song "Good times bad times" - that he learned and was taught how to play that bass drum beat from rock drummer Carmine Appice who played drums with Rod Stewart on "Do you think I'm sexy" and played drums on many other songs - John Bonham learned that fast one foot fast bass drum beat from rock drummer Carmine Appice....
