    I love the demo of the phase cancelling and making small adjustments to upset it. Subtle issue. Not frivolous - very instructive. I'll have to play with that.

      +theoldgronker - thanks for the feedback... from one old gronker to another! Yes, I was surprised how critical the settings needed to be to cancel out completely. It's good fun playing with phase, especially feeding out-of-phase signals to each ear. I remember hearing weird effects (presumably phase-related) for the first time decades ago on the Easy Rider soundtrack - not sure if it was a Steppenwolf or Jimi Hendrix track but if you get the chance to listen on good quality headphones, it's very unsettling :) I can't do this now as one of my ears packed up in my 40's, so to anyone who's reading this... look after your ears, you only have one spare!

    great, thank you . Very useful and effective but on module 6 b there is no option under title.

      @KRMEGAVIBE thanks for the feedback. Not quite sure what you mean by 'no option under title'?

    • @KRMEGAVIBE
      @KRMEGAVIBE 4 года назад

      @@philtipping
      In the youtube menu there is the option under title (at the bottom of the screen on the right a little square) and when this option is activated everything you say is displayed in English subtitles. This option appeared on previous tutorials.

    • @philtipping
      @philtipping  4 года назад

      @@KRMEGAVIBE Ok, understood. Thank you for spotting that. I don't know why it's different to the others. I've compared the settings with the others and they look the same... although RUclips is a bit of a mess in this area! I did edit the automated transcript on a few of them - the auto-generated text is really bad in places, but it takes a long time to go through every word so I didn't do all of them. I'm pretty sure it's not the cause of this problem though as 6A has the option but hasn't been edited yet. If you need any clarification, just email me and I'll try and help.

    Hi! I have a soundcraft 10 signature, do you know if the tascam dp24 work as mine, I mean, could this second one replace mine because tascam dp24 record tracks too? Also, does tascamp dp24 have audio interface? Pardon my english. Thanks.

    • @philtipping
      @philtipping  6 лет назад +1

      Hi +Manuel G, it depends how you use the soundcraft. The dp machines have audio in and out, but there are only 8 inputs. There is no direct digital interface for live audio - the USB link is only for transferring audio files in & out of the machine, so you can record on the dp24 and then copy the digitised track files to a computer for mixing/mastering in a DAW, or you can mix/master on the dp24, and then copy the master file to a computer for burning to a CD or converting to mp3 etc.

    Re: Send monitoring section...does the DP32SD not have a separate monitor section for the stereo headphone out? Nearly every desk I've ever worked with does, but the monitor only appears to incorporate Sends 1+2 and a bounce monitor...where is the separate headphone out pot?! Maybe it can be assigned to the Monitor knob?
    It seems a hassle to have to physically turn off your monitors rather than alternate easily between headphone and speaker outs...
    Maybe there's a hassle-free way of re-routing the headphone outs via bounce or routing the sends to the headphones?

    • @philtipping
      @philtipping  6 лет назад

      +Danny Kuperberg yes it's annoying. The block diagram shows the headphones are permanently tied to the monitor outputs at the back so I don' t think there's a solution unless someone has found a DIY mod. I've got active speakers on mine with level controls so just have to remember to turn them down before recording with a mic. Have heard others use switching gadgets like the mackie big knob - not investigated these myself as the price put me off :)

    • @PianoDanny
      @PianoDanny 6 лет назад +1

      Sure - I have Genele active monitors with separate volume controls on them. But to have to reach for them and turn them off every time I want to hear a headphone mix is beyond annoying...The DP32 SD is a great innovation, but they've missed a major thing here.@@philtipping

    Year ... just I see how I can work with "Phase" on a monotrack. So I can put my voice in the foreground with a bit of goosebumps. I think it is better than "Enhancer". Fine sad song in the backround.

    • @philtipping
      @philtipping  5 лет назад +1

      @oktofred Yes phase can be useful as an effect in its own right as well as for correcting things such as out-of-phase mics. Just check for mono-compatibility if your final result is stereo and there's a chance it will be played back on mono systems, e.g. radio.
      That sad song is my favourite track from her EP when she was just starting out as a solo artist. It might even be a collector's item now as she doesn't seem to do solo work any more :( Have just found the EP contents on youtube - here's the whole track ruclips.net/video/gAOdSfyZTws/видео.html

      @@philtipping Thank You for quick response and the instruction for work. Thanks for the youtube info. At the moment is it a great pleasure to work with my new Tascam, also the work with micro and singing. I use all functions. My QY 100 sequencer = stereo on kanal 23/24, input G-H with Exciter Freq. 2,30 und Depht 3. That is my standard now. Workflow is fine. 20 years ago I work with 4-Track-Recorder Yamaha MT1X with dbx !! and Yamaha SPX 90 for effects ... yes ... long time ago. Whether in the past or today, mixing und mastermix is a difficult and laborious job.
      Greetings, Fred.

    I bought this recorder weeks ago and I've been watching your videos since. I still dont know how this thing works. Its too complex. They made this thing super complicated. I just want to press record and record my music. Its a very annoying recorder. I hope by 1 month I'll actually be able to record using this thing and the sound better not just be subpar. Its very frustrating. In this video you made, I still dont understand what the heck to do.

    • @philtipping
      @philtipping  6 месяцев назад

      @user-bf8ki9tc8j Agreed, it could have been a bit easier, but it's a complete studio in a box so I guess it's like walking into a real studio without a recording engineer to help you, so you have to perform that role yourself :)
      If you take things slow and follow the videos bit by bit, while trying things out on the machine in between (i.e. don't binge-watch them!), you'll gradually pick it up... and you'll end up with a much better understanding.
      If you prefer a list of buttons to press without the background details, check out the Step-by-Step PDF guide
      www.philizound.co.uk/freebies/dp24-32/dp24-32.html
      It complements the videos by using a completely different approach - no block diagrams, just simple numbered steps, with screen-shots, to do various functions.
      Good luck, and thanks for stopping by.

    Dumb question good question : is it the PHASE that i need to use to avoid the sound that goes out of my headphone to get recorder by my microphone when recording with the monitor ON ?

    • @philtipping
      @philtipping  3 года назад +1

      @Nathaniel Molamba you could try it, although it may not be very effective. You could also try using closed-back headphones as these don't 'leak' as much sound.
