  • Replacing the backup/park assist camera on my truck. Camera has been intermittent for the last 2 year. Dealer said $600+ to replace. I troubleshot it down to the camera itself. The procedure in this video will probably cover a lot of different trucks. All parts replaced were Ford genuine parts. Thanks for watching!

    Thanks! You can use dental floss to compress tabs to remove Ford Emblem, slip under Emblem and apply pressure til Emblem end pops out ..

      Thanks! That's a great tip. Mine was already broken so I just bought a new one, but very good to know!

      Do you go from the top, bottom or side with dental floss?

    • @lanpartypro

      alignment pins are in the way if you have to go from the bottom up. I think it will work. the problem is threading the floss or fishing string around the pins

    Thank you for this video! We pulled our tailgate off today and forgot about the camera system. Ended up yanking a couple of the wires loose at the camera side connector. I was ready to take the tailgate apart from the inside to get to the camera until I saw your video. Once I saw the video it was a ten minute fix. Again, much thanks!!!

    Thanks for the video I cleaned and disconnected all the plugs nothing worked. I ended up checking the camera pigtail as last resort and sure enough it was the the problem with that ground cable.

    Try Neodymium magnets epoxied on to the back of the emblem and trim ring to reuse the old "one-time" use emblem.

    Having the same issue with my 2016 F-350, I took it to a Ford dealer because I have a MaxCare insurance policy that I bought with the truck when I bought it through CarMax. Well, took it to Ford yesterday and they 'diagnosed' the problem as a bad camera and replaced it. I checked it when I picked it up and it worked. However, when I got it home and backed into my space, it DIDN'T work. So, nothing has changed. I'll be going back today!
    Great video though. Had I seen this before, I may have taken this job on myself, along with checking the parking brake thing and the connection under the rear by the hitch. Problem is, at 75 I'm not as nimble as I used to be so I rely on the insurance policy I bought.
    I really liked the way you did this video. It was like I was sitting right there with you.

      Sorry to hear your camera is still inoperative. I have noticed the wires in the tailgate area are highly susceptible to breaking as they are constantly flexing with the opening and closing of the tailgate. My dealer went straight for the camera before checking the obvious areas. Do you set the parking brake often? If so, let it release abruptly or snap back several times observing the camera. If it comes back to life, the issue may be in that area. Try wiggling the wires where they pass through the tailgate. Hopefully this helps and thanks for watching!

      Make sure you either purchase a new Ford emblem or do the fishing line trick that another person suggested on my video. Thanks for the great comment and thanks for watching!

    Bob - has your new camera been good since then?

    • @wrenchingwithrob6001
      @wrenchingwithrob6001  2 года назад

      Yes, no issues unless I set the parking brake. Sometimes it has issues after I set the brake and release it. If I let the pedal slam back to it resting spot the camera works great. Once in awhile issue only. Thanks for watching. More videos out soon.

    As far as trying to remember how to position the new camera back into its place, too bad you didn't have photos or possibly a video to refer to. LOL!

    Did your zoom function work after you replaced your camera? I just replaced mine and everything worked except for the zoom. 2013 F250 using the same camera you used.

    • @wrenchingwithrob6001
      @wrenchingwithrob6001  2 года назад

      So I have to admit that I never knew it had a zoom function. I did try to push the button but it didn't do anything. This was the part number Ford gave me for the camera or verified. I do sincerely apologize if this is incorrect. Thank you for watching.

    All you did to fix the problem is replace the backup camera?

    • @wrenchingwithrob6001
      @wrenchingwithrob6001  Год назад

      Yes, replaced the camera and it worked again. Only issue I had was the zoom function which I didn't know I had. To get this function back, I had to download FORSCAN and purchase a OBD2 to USB adapter cable and recalibrate the camera. There's some good videos on how to do that. It worked great without this as well. Check the wire harness and parking brake assembly before though, could be that easy.

    Any updates on if it continues to work? I’ve replaced wiring harnesses and no luck. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.

    • @wrenchingwithrob6001
      @wrenchingwithrob6001  3 года назад +1

      So, my camera is working as it should. I have heard that sometimes the issue is either behind or above the parking brake pedal. There are some harnesses in that area that affect the camera operation. Try letting your parking brake snap back a few times or wiggle the wires above it while watching your display. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.

      If you are referring to the backup beeps, just use your left hand steering wheel buttons to scroll up or down one position to highlight the "off" position and hit the "ok" button. This works when you put the vehicle in reverse. Hope that is what you are after.

    😳 how did you turn off the reverse beeping

    • @wrenchingwithrob6001
      @wrenchingwithrob6001  Год назад

      So, depending on what dash or trim package you have, (my truck has the King Ranch trim package) when you place the shifter into reverse, an option should pop up in your center desk between the tach and speedometer. This pop-up should be in blue text and say something like back up sensor or like that and two options, on or off. Use your arrow buttons on the left side of the steering wheel to change the highlighted text to either on or off then press the enter or ok button in the center. This will turn it off. It will remain off until you restart the truck. Hope this helps.
