    I’m liking the brush even more than the paints! 😍😂

    That's such a good idea sticking the wrappers to a sheet. 😊👍

      Thanks - I'd get the paints in the pans confused otherwise!

    That's a lot of yellows!!! After this review, I agree, a nice gift idea to try and convert friends to watercolour (I keep trying 😆), especially with the nice addition of the brush. I've purchased one thing from this Amazon Day thus far and that's a Camilla Dabso book which was on my Wishlist. There's also an Arteza 12 set of Gouache in the most beautiful "Earth Tones" which is currently in my cart but despite repeatedly buying Gouache, I'm yet to use any 🤭 to any extent. Being realistic though, it's a lovely set of colours, it's only $26 and soooooo, yup, it's moving into my "finished orders"! 😎👍🏻. I can always justify art supplies 🤪. Cheers for another informative one. I know exactly who to buy one for (yet another friend who's going through cancer 👎🏻 👎🏻👎🏻with a bloody long recovery ahead) x

      Yes, I definitely don't think this set would put a newcomer off painting.
      I actually didn't buy anything on Amazon (though I have been buying some other things that I'm exploring!! 😁) I will take a look at your book though - I haven't heard of her. Enjoy the gouache, but sorry your friend is going through the mill right now... art might be a lovely addition for their life.

    They're not really for me but I do like the brush and Lightwish makes a pochade box I like too. I saw a quick glimpse on The Frugal Crafter's channel and had a closer look on Lightwish. It was reasonably priced, well, everything here is expensive, but it was a good price vs some of the Etsy ones or the small Ugo one which was three times the price. I bought one, had a quick peek at it and then wrapped it up for Christmas. For once I actually have all my family's Christmas presents bought and wrapped and it's not even mid October, this is unheard of for me 😂

    The colors look nice, for me it would work well for sketching, the only thing that deceives me is the amount of colors, its overwhelming. Nice review ❤

    I just bought this set off Amazon last month. Haven't swatched them yet as I'm trying to catch up on swatching several other sets first. I admit to being a collector of watercolor sets. However, I did remove the brush and have been using it a lot. I have several natural hair brushes from taking many Chinese brush painting courses. This latest acquisition is my absolute favorite. I'm currently swatching a large 36 tube set of Marie's Chinese colors paints. I've seen on Amazon that Marie's has an 18 tube set of "professional" watercolor paints. Would you possibly consider doing a video on these paints? Cheers from Toronto Ontario 🇨🇦

      It would be interesting to hear how you think they compare to other sets too!
      I looked up the Marie's professional watercolour tubes set, but I don't think I'll be getting it I'm afraid. It's nearly £70 and for a company I don't really know, it's too big a risk, plus I really don't need more standard colour watercolours!

      @@helencryer Hi Helen. Marie's watercolor paints are to the Chinese what Windsor and Newton are to the English and Schmincke is to the Germans. The colours are traditional Chinese colours not Western colours. The colours are either opaque when made from minerals or transparent when made from plants. They are also relatively inexpensive compared to Western student and artist grade paints. You could probably find a set of 12 tubes of these paints by the brand name YASUTOMO AUTHENTIC CHINESE WATERCOLOR PAINTS at a very reasonable price. Hope you give them a try. Cheers 🫠

    Yeah, thanks Helen. I am afraid I do not trust the info, and am sticking with data I can trust on my professional paints. If they are sold through 'proper' art stores and are known brands, I am far more likely to buy them. I always love you videos nonetheless! 🥰 ETA PS I LOVE THE BEE!!

      Yep, I'm included to agree, though I'm still happy to do these kinds of reviews so people thinking of buying them can see how they operate.

    Hi
    I absolutely love your channel. Love all that you do ….. so varied, fun and interesting.
    I hate to make a comment that’s not favourable but find all these chinese palettes of paint to be so similar and rather boring to see 😢
    Keep up your fantastic work xx

    What are you doing that on the line is darker and underneath the lines seems to get brighter

    • @helencryer

      Sorry for not explaining in the video! I painted a block of more concentrated paint over the black line, then painted the area underneath the block with clear water leaving a gap, then I let the paint area touch the clear water, to see how well the pigment flows into the water. Then I just spread the pigment out a bit.

    I wondered also about their 100% cotton water colour paper. Has anyone tried it? Also love your background music.

    Interested in how they can make “artist grade “ paints so cheaply. 🧐I know it’s difficult but is there a brand they are comparable with I.e better or worse than Paul Reubens or Daniel Smith. It’s hard to assess them in isolation. Thanks for the video. These are not for me. I prefer fewer colours of better quality.

    It looked like you were having to push them around and make them blend. X

    • @helencryer
      @helencryer  3 месяца назад +1

      Can't say they felt noticeably worse to blend than most other paints, to be honest.

    Even in the pans they look oddly chalky and muted. Not for me and yikes, that is a disconcerting number of yellows and for 48 colors, not nearly enough earthy colors. PY 150 is one of my favorite colors and I call BS on both of those, as well as a LOT of colors. One thing about student paints for me: if a brand (like Winsor Newton cotmans) is up front about the pigments and hues, then ok. A person knows what they are getting. But the pigment claims for this Lightwish set are clearly incomplete, or outright fabrications.

      @helencryer  3 месяца назад

      I didn't find them too chalky or muted to paint with (especially compared with the kind of student grade paints I was used to growing up), but I agree about not trusting the pigment info.
