I have two checklist boxes, a standard on on my sim and a lighted one in my SR-20. they are very helpful for awareness and quick to see if something has been checked or not.
am i wrong for thinking the only thing missing from this video is a Staged Emergency, just to hear your son say " don't worry Dad, i got it " dude is so locked in and co-piloting.. wholesome stuff. 👍👍
Really love seeing your son interested in flying. It might be cool to see vids training him. My grandfather owned Amelia Earharts training aircraft and eventually crashed it near Santa Paula airport in the 70’s. He took me up many times in various planes and let me fly. I was hooked. Alas I turned 18, bought a boat and sailed it 20 years and regret not staying with flying. Keep that kid interested in flying and doing what it takes to stay in the cockpit.
Chaucer, I’m sorry your dad and his audience didn’t understand your question. To answer it correctly this time, since I think you didn’t want to offend your dad by telling him “duh” when he answered it was for phonetic alphabet reasons, the reason they use the word “foxtrot” which sounds goofy, is because back in Ancient Times (sic) when radio was just becoming a “thing” for air to ground communication, the phonetic alphabet needed a word that was clearly an “f” word that could be understood on the radio. And so they chose “foxtrot” because in that Ancient time :-) there was a dance called “Foxtrot”, which was sweeping the nation and the world. It was an iconic reference to American culture like “baseball”, that everyone around the world had at least heard of. So it became the best candidate for the letter “f” because of its widespread recognition around the world - whereas I think they were hard pressed at the time to come with a better “f” word that non English speakers could parse and understand as easily. Hence the dance “The Foxtrot” was memorialized as the official international radio name for the letter “f”! You’re welcome. Next time, don’t be shy to tell your dad or anyone, “thanks, but that wasn’t what I was asking. I meant, why ‘foxtrot’ in particular? It’s a weird word I had never heard til now. What is the deal? Why not ‘Frank’ or ‘Finance’ or literally any other normal word? What a strange one to pick. Please explain the context behind its being chosen? Thanks.” P.S. Your dad told the SAR Watch folks that you were 5 POB, but we can’t see anyone else besides you, your mom, and I guess it’s your brother way in the back. Do you have another sibling who was just behind you or two rows behind you that everyone else watching assumed was an empty seat? I’d feel dejected if I was that fifth human who remained unacknowledged by the other commenters who seem to assume it’s just the ones they could see. Tell them I said it’s ok. It’s your dad’s fault for not just quickly introducing everyone before getting on board.
Just came to this video from a video you made a year ago titled "SHOULD I QUIT". So glad you didn't! Love your content, and love to see you enjoying what you do. May God continue to bless you and your family 🙏
I love seeing your little boy be still interested in line. And asking all the questions you’re very lucky dad and he’s a very lucky boy to have a dad like you
Consider yourself very fortunate to have taken your family with you. I took my dad the first day I had my license back in 1975 then one trip with both mom and dad... and one with my sister back in the 80's on a 707... never took my wife and family with me on any of the airplanes I flew with the airlines over 46 years... to this day... I feel I lost out. Good on ya! I wish I had experienced what you did.
It's always good to get away for a weekend. When I was in Hagen we would fly down to Madang or Lae as often as we could. Good to see you have your student pilot in the R.H.seat. Best you keep away from all that cloud to keep the rest of the family happy. Enjoy, thanks for the ride Ryan.
Thanks Ryan for wonderful video. Shame rest of family don't like flying- it is such a rare opportunity ans many people would gladly swap places. You and your son's enthusiasm is such a sight to see and very touching.
Thanks mate for taking us around different places in PNG and Australia. Really appreciate your services in such difficult and challenging environment and what pilots can do to simple people in the world. God bless.
My wife and children don't care for flying either :-( I did however get to take my nieces home from KHKY, (Hickory NC), to KVDF, (Tampa Exec). Three girls UNDER tha age of 12 makes for an interesting trip in an old Cherokee 6 with my father, my friend (and plane owner), and I. (and its true, if it'll fit in a six, she'll fly!!! ;-) We had a GREAT trip, but I must have heard Uncle Brian 1500 times ;-) Great memories!!! (And I sure do miss my father...) God bless you & safe travels my friend, and enjoy every minute!!! They'll be grown and gone b4 you know it!!!
Thanks, Brother, Blessings! Chauncer! Great to see ya in that right seat! You have a great teacher, there, in that left seat!!!!! Well, IMHO, the rest of the fam.....I understand. Flying is not for the faint of heart. (Maybe a bad choice of words on my part!!!!) But the view!!!!!!!!! Smooth air, pure Bliss! Short flight, no barf bag?????? Terra firma! Success!
Oh Ryan this video with your family is a real treat This is the perfect video to watch like and share as I am Such a wonderful family And exceptional parents Sit back with a coffee or juice and enjoy the best family entertainment My sincere best wishes to everyone always from Las Vegas Craig This video is 11 stars out of 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Bravo 👏🏻 Cheers 🍻
I think the check box is actually a cool equipment to have. You being used to flipping switches anyways helps go through that routine much better. And being in the point of view You can't miss it. About as good as having a co-pilot
I loved this video, seeing you come into Madang brings back memories. I worked on a missions ship and did my Marine Firefighting Training at PNG maritime college in 2008.
Amazing video, flight and lovely family. Ryan is sure a groove master 😅..the Lady behind seems to be air sick with the way she's been acting all through the ride. Your boy's gonna be a kick ass pilot with the level of interest he's demonstrating, he'll be an asset for CRM. I'm sure that's why daddy popped him to the CP seat 😅...I enjoyed this flight, thanks Ryan.
This title! I remember in 1976 when I was like six years old my dad flew us from Akron Ohio to Orlando in, (I believe), a 172. That was quite a trip. Aaaand I got sick. Some poor guy at a regional had to clean that up too. 🤦🏼♂️
I see an upcoming pilote here beside you ;) And i think he has an excellent teacher how to stay safe by attentions to all the procedures, checks, checklists etc. - every time, no short cuts. This discipline is what makes a good pilot.
Took the family on many Flying Vacations. In fact Before the family was, I used to (JOKE) but true we (My Bride) and I spent more tie in the Plane than bed on our honeymoon. (Mackinaw Inland, Ottawa Canada, Martha's Vineyard) Monday thru Friday. Flew home Saturday to make the last day of OSHKOSH in '75. It was great while it lasted. We lost Mom Christmas '96.
Really liked riding on top of the clouds and through them. Another super smooth landing and you say you are a bit out of the flying groove? Thanks for the ride Ryan and Chaucer.
Passed my Group 1 checkride three weeks ago today. Watching this video was extra interesting. Cool trick about getting down to the mins a bit faster to give greater chance of landing in possible VFR. Thanks for the video!!👍
Likewise, our family used to go out to Wewak over Christmas in the late 60s early 70s., we also holidayed in Madang once too. Some of us had our father's love of flying and we'd encourage him to find all of the turbulence! My mother hated flying so if she was on board the flying would be smooth as, without her it was always more fun. My father was an ex RNZAF instructor and aerobatics champ. No wonder you need a checklist, you have so many instruments and switches. I remember there being far less in the Cessna 185s and 206s. The heat and humidity on the coast was always a shock after the highlands lovely climate.
Nice. You have a beautiful family. Its a good thing that you can share your work life duties pilotage knowledge and experience with them in a way that they can experience them with you! Good job brother my blessing and prayers for you your family indeed. E. :)
I have little to no interest in aviation and often have to google some of your terminologies. However, your videos are incredible, and it's great to see a passionate, consummate professional at work.
That is one thing I miss about the 152. Of course the kids are grown and gone long ago and have kids of their own. I wish I had kept it! Too expensive to buy one now. Great video...looks familiar! Lol
Hi have ordered some merch in your store about 2 months ago to support your work.. A few weeks later got a job in aeronautical industry... nice coincidence ....cheers..
Ok,....the clouds very interesting....your son...nice only asking questions when needed. ..ahhh..your wife...lets get there as soon you can...and the last person..mmmmI guess he knows how to fly...nice aproach...nice landing...enjoy your Family......
I have two checklist boxes, a standard on on my sim and a lighted one in my SR-20. they are very helpful for awareness and quick to see if something has been checked or not.

Love the little co-pilot, “ I want to be a pilot like my dad “
It is also important to rest in family. Especially if you can rest while flying... nice video.
Your son is really lucky to have a flying mentor like you. We need more of both of you.
That was awesome. 😊
Yes, I left Papua New Guinea a few years back. It was somewhat surreal knowing my Grandfather flew out of Port Moresby back in WW2.
Love the little co-pilot, “ I want to be pilot like my DAD “
If i could live life over again , it would be as your son enjoying life in the sky with your Dad!
So true. Love the father - son bonding. Great dad! 💯

Haha, sailing vs. flying. Both about as much fun as you'll ever have.
The star of this video are those flipflops lol. Thanks for sharing your family with us.
How many folks get to go on a family vacation via exclusive access to a $2M turboprop. That is a sweet, but very well deserved, perk!
Agreed 😉 Pilates PC12 also very nice ☺️
I would think that’s the least he deserves considering he likely doesn’t get paid a nickel from the missionary company for flying that
@@Captndarty exactly!
@@Captndarty really? How is he making money then? You Tube ain’t paying much.
That plane costs 2 million? dang

Love Your Videos.
I love seeing your little boy be still interested in line. And asking all the questions you’re very lucky dad and he’s a very lucky boy to have a dad like you
So awesome you get to take that bird out with the fam. Like others said, killer perk that you deserve. Bad ass pilot man, mad respect.
You and your family should appreciate the wonderful experience you have shared. I flew N8866R complex Bellanca and appreciate the opportunity to fly.
Consider yourself very fortunate to have taken your family with you. Does your son ever get to do any fly the plane himself
Thanks Ryan for wonderful video. Shame rest of family don't like flying- it is such a rare opportunity ans many people would gladly swap places. You and your son's enthusiasm is such a sight to see and very touching.
Another great video Ryan. Great to see Chaucer starting young!
Ryan- it was good to see your reports from Oshkosh. Looking forward to more U.S.A. updates.
I remember doing some fly-in census work, back in 1986. I remember the roughness going under the small cumulus clouds.
Probably the safest anyone would feel flying in a small plane with bush pilot Ryan nice work.👌
Thanks mate for taking us around different places in PNG and Australia. Really appreciate your services in such difficult and challenging environment and what pilots can do to simple people in the world. God bless.
Great job landing and flying your hole family, nice to have seen them. Have a good time Ryan, see ya next time see ya bye.
Fun! Glad you got time away with the Family! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Great copilot
This is one of the most beautiful and informative podcast you had done ✅.
Hi Ryan, riding with your son brings back memories of me flying with my dad when I was ten

Sorry for your loss. Nope I’m on church this morning. Body is not cooperating
I grew up in MI and never took the opportunity to go to Mackinaw Island. Kicking myself for not going.
Son. Aviator glasses. Yeah!!
Beautiful family, thanks for taking us along.
Thank you
Really liked riding on top of the clouds and through them. Another super smooth landing and you say you are a bit out of the flying groove? Thanks for the ride Ryan and Chaucer.

Dozens of light aircraft flights when I was growing up in PNG and the only times I got airsick was in the back row of a 6 or 8 seater.
