Nice to see The Bends get this much love. A ton of people get on it for being the album that needed to happen for them to come out with their peak work. That mentality kind of trumps the fact that The Bends is still great in its own right.

    5. A Moon Shaped Pool

Hail to the Thief is their most underrated album and it should totally get the love and respect Kid A or In Rainbows have. I love these albums but Hail to the Thief it's the perfect mix of their rock sound and the experimental/electronic sound they started to explore with Kid A and Amnesiac. Overall you're very brave for placing it above those albums lol. Good list.

LOOK AT HOW HIGH HAIL TO THE THIEF IS ON THIS LIST!!! Oh wow, I’m so happy to see it in the top three in your list. It’s personally my favourite even though I can’t say it’s their best - buy damnit, from start to finish it’s such a daring listen… And the literal centerpiece being There There just feels like the boldest move they could’ve done.

Great work, Jon. I've been a huge Radiohead fan since the early 2000s (my best friend at the time turned me on to them by popping the Kid A cassette tape in my stereo one day- yes you read that right, we were still listening to cassette tapes at the turn of 20th Century) and to this day I find it no easy feat ranking this band's discography. Somehow, though, you managed, as a fairly new listener at that, to compile quite the proper list that I largely agree with, and even the album placements that I beg to differ with, I can still totally appreciate the case you make for those placements. Anyways, here's my list of Radiohead records from worst to best:
    Pablo Honey
    The King of Limbs
Hail to the Thief (but after seeing how high you placed it, I'm going to seriously revisit this one, and I admit, it is the Radiohead album out of all of them that I've given the least listens)
    Amnesiac
OK Computer (I know I know I'm gonna get crucified for this one not being number 3 or higher, but for some reason this one never really got me like that)
    A Moon Shaped Pool
    Kid A
    The Bends
In Rainbows (I will defend this ranking till the day I die. This album is their true magnum opus, I don't care what anybody says)
BTW it's nice to know I'm not the only one who's slayed by the Nude lyric "you'll go to Hell for what your dirty mind is thinking". Gets me every time too. Heavy stuff, man.

    4. In Rainbows
    5. The Bends
    6. Hail to the Thief
From what I remember, A Moon Shaped Pool was really good, but I don't remember enough and I haven't heard it in over a year. Same time period with the King of Limbs, I remember liking it, I had bloom on repeat for a while. Pablo Honey I've still never listened to.

So happy to see HTTT getting so much deserved love..if I attempted to make a ranking system for RH albums, I'd likely fail because it would be ever changing and fluid..I sort of vascillate between in rainbows and kid a as favorites, but would say that ok computer and a moon shaped pool have been most impactful on a personal/emotional level when I'm not busy breaking the discography down intellectually/musically..the biggest compliment I can give RH is that besides being a game changer and setting a standard and bar held high for other musicians, is the simple (?) fact that RH is one of only two musical artists that I can keep on permanent rotation for over 20 years now and never get sick of it or bored.. Great video!!

Radiohead's catalogue is pretty consistent, but here's the loose version of how I rank it, with 5-1 flip flopping most of the time depending on how I feel:
9: King of Limbs (Still not bad by any stretch but I prefer the live renditions of these songs)
8: Pablo Honey (Despite being quite low in my ranking I think it deserves more credit than it gets, or at least slightly more. Especially the opener You)
7: Moon Shaped Pool (Used to be higher for me but I don't return to it nearly as much as the other 6. It has many great moments but I find it slightly long at points and I find myself drifting off while listening to it from time to time)
6: Hail to the Thief (Even though it's quite long I never minded the length all that much)
5: Amnesiac (I get that this one is seen as Kid A leftovers, but if you ask me, these are damn fine leftovers)
4: In Rainbows (I used to not get the appeal of In Rainbows but the more I listened to it the more I loved it)
3: The Bends (Again, sometimes this is my number one and I don't think there's a weak track on The Bends)
    2: Ok Computer (Same story)
1: Kid A (Despite some arguing this album is maybe less consistent than The Bends, In Rainbows or Ok Computer, this is probably my go to Radiohead album most of the time. I would almost go as far as say it's their proggiest album, even more-so than Ok Computer, but I may be alone on that take).

  • @t1aodrkeys
    @t1aodrkeys Год назад +1

I gotta give TKOL more airtime.
With that said, my top 5 (also a razor thin margin, so no particular order) has got to be:
Kid A/Amnesiac (they are more like a double album)
    OK Computer
    The Bends
    In Rainbows
AMSP is definitely a gateway album.
HTTT is a grower. The album hints at future musical direction. Such an epic, underrated record, but I feel the aforementioned albums have that focus in getting to that quality on the record.
My favourite part on Pablo Honey is that yell into the guitar break on "You."

I went from only listening to classical and top 40 music until the age of 19 when I heard MSP and began to gradually dive into and appreciate music from a wide variety of genres and eras. 1. A Moon Shaped Pool - (beautiful, sad, and full of heart, 10/10)
    2. Kid A - (just a super cool atmospheric ocean, 10/10)
    3. In Rainbows - (yeah super pretty and warm and what most people say about it already, 9.5/10)
    4. OK Computer - (awesome album! even if some songs are a bit forgettable to me it's still a great listen, 9/10)
    5. The King of Limbs - (I don't really get the hate for this album, I love the pretty experimental stuff here, 8.5/10)
    6. Hail to the Thief - (definitely the most "yeah that sure is a Radiohead album" of them all for me, 8/10)
    7. The Bends - (hurts to have it this low, there are some amazing songs here but also some that are just meh, 8/10)
    8. Amnesiac - (I basically agree with most of what you say in the video, but I like more songs like You and Whose Army and Packt, 8/10)
    9. Pablo Honey - (yeah good but pretty boring a lot of the time, 7/10)

I first heard radiohead in 1993, Pablo honey was ok, not bad not amazing, then the bends came and it already started to sound different to other songs at the time, street spirit was a fav of mine, then I kinda forgot about them and OK computer came out and it was incredible. I loved grunge and alternative rock, but these guys were playing emotional, excellently executed songs and I was a massive fan. Kid A came out when I used to go to more electronic parties and it fit in perfectly with my life. Amnesiac and hail to the thief are lesser as a whole, but have amazing songs on them. Then In Rainbows came, saved my life. Absolutely love kings of limbs, and moon shaped pool. I am just happy that I lived during their time. So my list:
    9. Pablo honey
    8. Hail to the thief
    7. The bends
    6. Amnesiac
    5. King of limbs
    4. Moon shaped pool
    3. Kid A
    2. OK computer
    1. In Rainbows.
There are no wrong answers here. Fucking love Radiohead.

    Personal ranking:
    1) Kid A (my favorite. This is the game changer, version two. Excellent approach to electronic sounds with strong elements of jazz and orchestral arrangements. Everything, from Evrrything in its Right Place, to The National Anthem, to How To Disappear Completely, to In Limbo, to Optimistic, to Motion Picture Soundtrack. Everything is flawless. Certified golden album.)
    2) In Rainbows (the most flawless album in my honest opinion. Simply excellent. I dont know what to say. Only Faust Arp falls a tad short of the standards set by the rest of the album. Recommended.)
    3) OK Computer (the game changer, amazing lyrics, great melodies and an overall beautiful work. Airbag, Paranoid Android, Subterranean Homesick Alien, Exit Music, Karma Police, Let Down, Fitter Happier, No Surprises, Electioneering, The Tourist and Lucky are cerfitied bangers)
    4) Amnesiac (hot take, but this one of their best works in my opinion, great art, experimental and electronic rock sounds, and i can see why people consider it a continuation of Kid A. Packt like Sardines, Pyramid Song, Dollars and Cents, Life in a Glasshouse, Like Spinning Plates, Knives Out, You and Whose Army?, I Might be Wrong and Hunting Bears are some of ny all time favorites)
    5) A Moon Shaped Pool (probably one of their saddest works, I adore the orchestrations, lyrics and melodies here. Burn the Witch is a banger, Decks Dark, Daydreaming, Ful Stop, Present Tense, True Love Waits and Glass Eyes really stand out to me, the rest of the tracks kind of tire me, though)
    6) The Bends (an updated Pablo Honey, but a hudred times better. Though the similarity of the songs and the 90s ballad sound does wear off easily, Fake Plastic Trees, Nice Dream, Just, Black Star, Street Spirit, My Iron Lung and High and Dry really turn this album into gold)
    7) Hail to the Thief (the problem here is the exact opposite of TKoL, way too many songs and half of them are borderline the same. Many highlights though, like There There, Myxomatosis, A Wolf at the Door, I Will and Sail to the Moon. Lovely lyrics as well.)
    8) King of Limbs (the sound here is on the low-key side, Bloom, Lotus Flower and Codex are amazing, but the few songs here are way too long and way too similar sounding to each other)
    9) Pablo Honey (not kuch to enjoy, too much "90s british grunge for me, but You, Anyone Can Play Guitar and Creep are amazing highlights)

One of the best trifectas in rock history:
    1. The Bends
    2. Ok Computer
    3. Kid A
The Bends initially flopped, but gained a second life at years end when critics unanimously chose it as one of the years best.
Shocked when the mostly out of touch Grammys nominated Ok Computer for Album of the Year.
