Justin Marshall Reviews Springboks' Thrilling 31-27 Win over All Blacks

- Justin Marshall - 81-test former All Blacks halfback and rugby commentator - joins Martin Devlin on It's Only Sport, offering his thoughts on the Springboks' 31-27 win over the All Blacks in Johannesburg. The Boks won their third successive test over their old rivals, in the first clash between them since last year's Rugby World Cup final in Paris. The match featured its fair share of contentious calls made by officials, and has caused a stir among the New Zealand mainstream media, with suggestions the All Blacks haka was disrespected when music was played and a plane flew over the stadium as the Kiwi players were performing it.
Marshall talks about the haka issue first and whether or not this is just a silly media beat-up as opposed to a genuine issue. Then, he and Devlin go in-depth on the test discussing promising signs the All Blacks showed in the first hour of play, their struggle to score points late in games, and more.

American here, and I am here to say that was watching the irresistible force (SA) VS. Immovable Object (NZ) The two nations who are the class of Rugby. Most importantly, Kudos to both teams, to fight so hard, then after the game both teams to have such class discussing the game makes them great role models for children as well! 👏👏👏Greetings to all from hot and rainy Miami!
Greeting's brother from the tropics, hope your well and soon you guys will be getting close.
There’s a good chance the Springboks and All Blacks will play one another in America next year, so fingers crossed you and your fellow Americans will get an opportunity to watch them in person.
They’ve just arranged old-school tours between the two nations that will occur once every four years. The first one will happen next year when the All Blacks tour South Africa, but a bonus fixture will take place in either North America or England.
@@DavyBrando Thank you for the heads up! I bet they will play in California or Chicago because they have better Rugby culture up there than here in Miami where our Football and Soccer (Due to the South American Communities we have here) are king sports, but I will travel for that matchup for sure! Thank you again!
@@MB-xq9hu My pleasure! The game is growing a lot in South America, with the likes of Uruguay, Paraguay and now Brazil really embracing the game (along with Argentina of course). So hopefully rugby cements a nice stronghold in Miami in the future too.
Thanks wish USA 🇺🇸 to come together and bring more players from NFL to be part of rugby im telling you ,you gonna dominate most of lot of team's love from South Africa
Justin Marshall so good in his analysis so balanced and unbiased.

From a South African, most of us have the utmost respect for the classy All Blacks. Thanks for always coming to the game.
Thanks Justin for your balanced opinion once again. South Africans love playing and competing against the All Blacks, and respect the rivalry, along with the Haka, the history and the intensity. Keep up the great work. Maybe join your old mates at the Breakdown and add some quality!!
@@markegerton8368 I agree fully. This is a case of two great nations that form the heart and spine of a beautifull game!
@@markegerton8368 Justin could u please apply these same principle’s when commenting Crusaders games .. especially against the hurricanes 😂
Re Haka, the Boks were silent and respectful towards it...and that's all that counts.
As a Springbok fan, I just love the Haka always will! Thanks AB's keep it going.
Ditto 👍 🇿🇦
The crowd can get involved, but my opinion from South Africa is that the DJ should not do what he did. The plane was just bad timing.
Maybe NZ should have planned to do their prayer a bit later. Everything gets planned and that prayer wasn't part of the planning. In terms of the plane, it's silly to expect it to come at a different time you can't just change timings for something like that. The DJ should have read the situation and played his music afterwards.
When the plane came over the crowd started cheering and I think the DJ thought the haka was over. Bad mistake, but an honest one I think.
@@TheBuildKingR I agree. If you look at the timing. The prayer before the HAKA created the whole incident.
Am not offended, but IMO the apology is BS. They've done the flyover enough times to know the timings. And the DJ could see the haka wasn't over, more "F.U."
@@prof_kaos9341 ok mate, you arrange the logistics for an inner-city low flyover and see how easy it is.
"Who the hell was offended?" Good on you, Martin. Exactly right.
I wasnt offended but was disappointed.....who wants to listen to loud music over the haka, it spoilt the beginning of the game. It detracts from the build up to the game.
@@babu7141 masses of snippy comments about 'War cry', 'throat cutting' etc on the Facebook rugby pages- some folk do not understand the actions in the haka, perhaps a video explaining those might help some 'younger fans' appreciate what it's all about.
I wasn't offended (cos I'm S African) but I was pissed off - ABs is the only game I religiously tune into 5-10 mins early to never miss the Haka, and they f-ed it up with stupid commercial music and other crap.
Ellis Park has always had a trashy atmosphere though to be perfectly honest, so that's no surprise.
@@babu7141I like loud music over dancing especially if that dance is designed to intimidate my team .
@@Alec-sanderMeirellesDoCantoECathe haka is designed to intimidate the opposition. You should support your team and show them your support. Saying they can come to your house and to the haka but you should know you not in NZ. Being told to respect the haka is bs
As a Saffa, I was appalled at the noise and off timing of the plane. We really do have the utmost respect for the AB and the Haka. Justin on point with his evaluation. See you again on Saturday! 👊
I hated the bloody DJ music every 12 seconds...... please no more for Cape Town!
Who came up with the DJ thing. It ruins the Pre game, it was done at Loftus, Kings Park and now Elis Park. It's bloody unnecessary, totally agree.
Let's do away with it 😢
It’s very Americanised. Go watch any American sport live and it’s DJ crazy
Was at loftus, kings park and Ellis. DJ is awesome when you are in the stadium, but seems overpowering on the broadcast. Reckon supersport just need to adjust their sound mix so it’s not so loud on the broadcast.
Its not necessary, shut it off. Maybe some music pre game and half time but SA Rugby seemed to be trying too hard (thanks Justin). Hulle ruk die hol onder die hoender uit. Game was good though...great entertainment❤
I go shopping and there is some stupid dj making noise.
It's worth remembering that the Boks finished the game with 6 players with 6 or less starting caps. Those six players were in the key positions of loosehead prop, lock, no 8, scrumhalf, flyhalf and full back.
Thanks for informative comment.
Important point which I think they missed, that there was a lot of inexperience on the pitch too. Rassie’s plan is to get young players used to the pressure but it can also backfire
Justin Marshall is a great and honest commentator
If you take the emotions out of the game, as Mr Marshall has done, then the AB`s can be proud of the Boks for doing what the AB`s have always done by turning on the taps in the final 15min. As a steadfast Bok fan I really enjoyed the contest of brute force and fancy footwork from both teams. More of the same for Cape Town I hope, just with better, or at least more consistent officiating

The Haka is nz heritage and culture....the plane dates back to 95, part of our remembrance of the most iconic game in Springbok history
The ABs are our biggest rival and we have the utmost respect for them. We also LOVE the Haka and would not disrespect it.

During the RWC, a lot of people called Bomb squad against the spirit of game. Matt Williams😂,
The Springboks game is forcing other teams to respond. Like chess, rugby can be played in a variety of ways.
It was great game, looking forward to the next one.
You should be able to play for 80 minutes. Bringing players on after barely more than half time is a joke. They smash away for a shorter time but the long term effects come back to haunt
I took my daughter to the game, I was furious that the Haka was ruined by the DJ and the fireworks. We want to see the All Blacks do the Haka. I took my little girl to see it at Ellis Park. We South Africans want to see the Haka.
Can you repeat that, did not hear you the second time you mentioned it.
@@jonathandavis8599 He said he wanted to see the Haka. He took his daughter. They both wanted to see it. The Haka.
Still breaking up.....
You took your little girl to Ellispark for a 5pm kick off against New Zealand 😅 brave guy hahaha
There was an eerie calm with the Springboks when they were 17-27 down.
As a bok lost my shit with music playing over the Haka... Even playing Ireland and playing Rassie in your head before the games start is bullshit
agree with you, on the Rassie point - getting childish. The DJ at rugby during a game is unnecessary- if you need it you don’t belong- let the crowd provide the atmosphere
As a long term Bok supporter I am uncomfortable with the "best in the world" status. I much preferred being the underdog. Anyone else or just me?
Let US enjoy It while we can.
Maybe it's time to learn to be more comfortable in this new jacket! Underdog status offers lessons, sure, but sometimes it can become a comfort zone. Teams and fans alike need to learn to lose well and win well.
Just you😂
Just came across this podcast, as a sports & news junkie; love it. Subscribed. Great and astute analysis and reviews on matters rugby 👍🏼
It was unfortunate. Most South Africans were disappointed about the disrupted Haka but those pre game activities for the fans must not be disrespected. It’s not bullshit.
I think it's BS to have the PA system blasting music over the Haka

Well said Martin & Justin. As a South African I was embarrassed so it’s great to have the matter behind us. Let’s go Bokke - last try wins!! 💪
As a South African I was not. They can Haka all they want in New Zealand and you can join them there too. Our house our rules. The Haka is not a National anthem
Embarrassed for what dude, it sounds more kissing ass from your side
Hats off and Kudo's to Ruan du Toit, who sang the NZ anthem very well.
Love Mr Marshall. You're a legend. Much appreciate his views.
After a request by Planet Rugby, World Rugby match officials confirmed that the Mbonambi try was the correct decision. Barrett knocked the ball on, it went backwards for Mbonambi and then he scored the try, just before the line, but then his momentum moved the ball over the line. So, contrary to the Cody Taylor try, Mbonambi's try was legit.
When watching, we immediately noted that it was disrespectful and in bad taste that Sister Bettina was playing before the Haka was concluded. The crowd getting involved was great (Olé, Olé is a bit of an Ellis Park tradition during the AB Haka isn’t it?) and the plane flying over wasn’t that much of an issue.
As Springbok fans we hold the Haka in high regard. We grow up with it and revere it - even if we don’t fully appreciate the significance of it.
The Bok players, however, at least paid it the respects it demands.
I was very nervous before the game as a Bok supporter. There is never a bad ABs team. My dad and I were talking before the game and I said that we should not be giving the ABs a quick start which we did. To be fair, the Boks were around 6/10 for their performance. The experience and sheer belief won that the game. Like the ABs vintage of 2011-2017ish - playing below par in some games, but still coming away with a win.
There is truly no foe like the ABs for us Boks! And the respect we have for your team and the history of the contest is huge! This is such a great unbiased view of the match. Thanks guys! Super excited for Sat.
There is no rugby nation who respects the Haka more than South Africans. We will boo and go nuts, but out of a place of love, you know.... We love the rivalry. All the Bok fans can recite the Haka. My son and his mates does the Haka. We love it. But you must understand the crowd will be hostile. The music and the fireworks was not on, and I didn't even see the plane go over. It was crazy.
They stoped playing from the 65 min mark, 10 points ahead they tried to play safe and protect there lead, but this just allowed the boks to storm back. They should have stopped kicking and attacked because we looked good doing that up to that point. Beudin looks gun shy to me this year tends to kick in stead of running.
The springboks take away games from teams in the last 20 min all the time
Exactly my take, tactics backfired, we don’t have the mindset for the grind to hold out an opposition of that quality, and needed to keep playing. Especially as our tactical kicking is woeful, especially on the day BB and Jordie, both go to spray and pray mode. Same as last 30 against Argentina last game.
Tbh 10 points in Union is easy to chase down cause unlike Rugby League the tries and penalties are worth more
Absolutely love the Hakka, sends shivers down my spine, the timing was a bit of an issue, sorry about that, a Bok Supporter through and through
As a bok supporter, I am massively irritated by all the DJ involvement at rugby games. It makes it cheap and shallow. I vote 100% to stop DJ during play time
JM one of the best commentators in rugby and least biased. Pity NZ media can't handle his more objective view.... He is still and understandably so... Slightly kiwi biased but not at the cost of what he sees and says. 💪🏽🙌🏽🙏🏽
As a kiwi i dont think anyone was offended, in fact those antics just spice things up and add to the spectacle.
Marshy one of the few NZ pundits who talks sense.good on you mate
I look forward to the Haka almost as much as the game. Lovely bit of tradition.
As a Bok fan I have respect for Justin Marshall......both as player and now tv commentator......still feel he needs to replace JK on The Break Down Show .....JM always very unbais and provide such a good overview of the game
I'm a coloured south African my dad supported the all Blacks like most coloured people from he's time becoz of apartheid offcoz however for me the all Blacks were and are still the best team so for us springbok supporters it's huge when we get a victory over the all blacks
I'm so over people not being able to respond to the haka.
Glad to hear it.
Was at the game live - totally agree the Haka was ruined by all that nonsense and it is always a highlight for me in the rivalry. Both teams put on a show as usual and SA fans all respect NZ. So Good to see JM always give honest and balanced feedback.
Don’t worry you are more than up to it to win in Cape Town and this is a South African speaking.
You guys showed amazing ability.
In this scenario, while many might believe that the Bok hooker knocks the ball on, it's actually Barrett who does. According to Law 11.2, a knock-on occurs when a player, while tackling or attempting to tackle, contacts the ball and it goes forward. Here, the ball moves backwards from the Bok hooker’s hands but forwards from Barrett’s.There's a potential argument that Mbonambi is not in control of the ball when grounding it, but World Rugby’s laws clarify that this is irrelevant. The laws state that a ball can be grounded by either holding it and touching the ground or pressing down on it with the hand, arm, or front of the body. Therefore, the officiating team, led by Brace, made the correct decision, even if it seems unpopular.
It’s not a grounding issue, he never had control. Nor did he reach the line. TMO distortion of the visual facts. Just own it. No problem. Moving on. Even some of the more dignified Saffa supporters have conceded it was no try. Well done both teams.
I can hear the crunch of the straws you are grasping... :)
Not having a moan but the Boks did well in the second half to slow the game down to a crawl and erase any momentum the AB’s had. All these ‘injuries’ with none of them having to go off. I thought we lacked leadership to pressure the ref about it - after all world rugby has brought in a number of directives to try and speed the game up. Second half went forever. Fair play Boks - you play the ref as much as the game at this level. I do feel the AB’s are lacking leadership on the field, and a no.8
Ardie to flank for me
Well said
Nope, can't say I agree with your take mate. One injury was Arendse, almost knocked himself out cold. Another was Kolisi needing treatment after sustaining a big facial injury (direct from a shoulder). I did not get the impression that there was any play-acting to slow the game down. The Boks did pop-balls from the top of the lineout almost the entire game, something they hardly ever do, with the clear intention of speeding up play.
Agreed. SA are unfortunately masters at it and have been for some time. The big fatties are there to do a job and it aint running. Refs and world rugby have to sort this rubbish tactic out. Saw it at the WC too so many deliberate stoppages. Even seen a forward go down because he wanted to retie his laces but of course they were fine anyway. Get them off if thats the case and get on with actual playing.
@@runforrestrun1965 Watch the final again. New Zealand actually stopped for injuries and bandages more than the Springboks.
Lovely to hear Jeff eating humble pie.
The timing got thrown out. A guy died, a prayer was added. Timing was different and nobody told the pilot. Shit happens, I’m annoyed by crowd drowning out the haka. We used to be quieter for it and it was something to behold to be able to hear that challenge echoing around Ellis park. I guess I feel for the people who go there and don’t get to experience it the way I did. Give em hell before and after the haka sure, but to drown out that challenge is a missed opportunity.
Is rugby a professional sport?
Then it’s time to end the antiquated policy of not selecting overseas players especially when you consider most are playing in stronger competitions than at home.
Only picking professional athletes from a very weak super rugby competition puts us in the same position now as what South Africa were in when they had the quota.
We will continue going backwards, most teams now say the fear has gone.
It's the NZR's desire to have complete control over players.
They need to pick them. In SA we had a locals only policy that saw us drop to our worst ever ranking. They let Rassie pick foreign based players when he took over and we won the World Cup a year later. Can’t believe NZR haven’t changed that rule.
Difference is south Africa has terrible living standards and has a weak currency so s much higher rate of players are overseas compared to NZ.
Also, it's best to have our best players playing in front of our own fans.
You can't compare us to South Africa while they were losing 57-0 we lost by 4 due to a biased ref
@@Charlie-uz8vb biased for both because the codie taylor try was also an infringement
@@Charlie-uz8vb It's more about the earnings than it is about "living standards" for the players going overseas, 95% of them return to SA when they are done. The "living standards" in SA for middle income and upwards(specially the high income where these players fall) are pretty good.
As a Saffa, just love what the Haka brings to Rugby, gives me goosies every time 👌👌👌
It was an honest mistake. In 2022 I was at the stadium when we played New Zealand (I think this is what Justin was talking about) and on that day the plane was supposed to come over twice but they got the timing out and they abandoned the second fly over with the players on the field. But if are there it is a hair-raising experience. Ellispark man, if you haven't been, it is something else.
The plane was in celebration of the anniversary of Mandela at the stadium…there are only a few teams that are allowed to perform a ritual ceremony before a game..
Waar kom jy aan daai stront
Yes, we, as South African, we must be allowed to do our own thing in our own backyard. in 1995 World Cup finals, the plane did a flyover. Haka is a customary way to celebrate, entertain, welcome, and challenge [visiting] tribes. I think haka needs to be performed only in New Zealand or during the World Cup.
As a Springbok fan I am amazed that one of the best fly halves in the world is playing fullback for the All Blacks. You can trace their slide from the moment he was moved.
The All Blacks will get better no question about it, but to keep perspective, the Boks played with a rookie 5, 10, 15,Jasper coming back after a long time not playing, missing RG Snyman on the bench, missing Steven as back up prop, trying to play a more expansive game and still learning against the team that plays that type of game the best in the world.
NZ had a intercept try, we can cancel out the 2 tries one form Bongi and the truck and trailer try from NZ. So yes the All Blacks will get better, but so will the Boks as well.
Martin, get some perspective. We are rebuilding a team. The world has changed in world rugby. The saffas and the Irish and the french are good enough to beat us now a days. And I have been watching rugby for 50 years. We don't just get to win.
Er, wasn't there a Bok tour in 37 and 49?
Does Boks 2-1 and 4-0 ring a bell?
Great discussion. Couldn't agree more with the assessment.
20 years of the ABs putting teams away in the last 20 caused so much heartbreak for many fans of opposite teams. Never thought this would change but there you go. Have some of your own medicine and may it continie for the next couple of years, I mean decades
1 reason why the fans must respect the haka that has a throat slitting gesture ?
Stuff off, our turf our rules!!
Its soo enlightening when clever heads talk sense. Not all this media hate. Clarity is key. Boks vs Abs ... nothing better in our sport.

Xheers. Enjoy the. Gees
It is the dj music...everything else was ok imo
The timing was off because ABs prayed first.
Maybe the haka should just be performed in NZ
Not maybe it should be exclusively done in home games I don't see how getting to intimidate your opponents at every game in this way makes sense
or even in their change rooms
@@ZO150ZOthey did that in 🏴 few years back. The crowd did not appreciate it.
@@ducksmad there are many people who do appreciate the Haka - I guess it's fun to watch - the problems is when it's performed outside NZ + demand that it should be accepted - it shouldn't be forced on people - full stop
@@ZO150ZO I don’t think the All Blacks are forcing anyone to accept it. But it is a long standing tradition of rugby. I imagine the home rugby boards could disagree with it being performed but I imagine that would not be appreciated by the away crowds. While it does not need to be accepted, when it is performed, it should at least be respected. Cheering and singing etc is respectful, DJ playing random music is inappropriate.
AB are and have always been the best at the game. AB supporters go crazy if they drop from no1 in the world or loose a game. SA went through years of failure. Japan beat SA, getting the odd result, totally inconsistent. Tje Aussies used to be a force back in the day. Tje standard of Rugby is higher than ever! It is a good thing! We all know the AB will be back at the top. I personally think the rules are always changing and the best team should not loose on a technical issue. There are so many rules, neither players nor refs know what is correct. I am no expert just a simpleton that loves the game....
Yes, thank you Justin! Short memories eh
Well said Marshy - Boks vs All Blacks round 2, lets go!!!!!!
Seriously, when your NZ radio stations with Ex All black abuse and make comments about Rassies health issues this acceptable. When Haka is given utmost respect by the players. Spectors have fun what the big deal. What Rugby belongs to the Kiwis . English fans sign and do the same. What is the big deal.
I agree with Marshall the real victims are those who bought tickets being fans of the haka thats about it really.
As for our bench I dont think we have to copy the 6 - 2 split. But our bench isnt fit for purpose. It's really hard to ignore that we have one of if not the best fullbacks in the world playing on the wing and one of the best impact players in the history of the game in the 15 Jersey. I understand that BB deserved to start after his performances off the bench against England. But at the same time his best performances were off the bench against England. BB somehow is a world class finisher of the game when he comes off the bench. He did it against England twice I remember his impact against SA at Ellis park in 2013, against Ireland in 2013, against both SA and Aus at the 2015 WC. He's just really really good at it. I think Razor BB and the whole nation need to get behind the idea of BB being a world class finisher and add that string to our bow.
Peter Lakai is currently playing for Wellington he's very young but I see a very good impact player in him especially for this World cup cycle and I think he would no doubt end up as a starter long term. He is probably the one guy in the NPC right now who looks like he could be a world class test match player and one player who I think right now could come on and add something to a test match.
Sam Darry is not an impact player he is a starter and our loose trio does not have the right balance yet. I think Ethan Blackadder would make a better 7 personally and seeing how Vaai plays and his abilty to get over the ball at the breakdown he would make a great 6.
I would personally either go 6 Vaai 7 Blackadder 8 Savea
Or pick a specialist 8 and go 6 Blackadder 7 Savea 8 Sititi.
I do wonder if we should give Reece another crack he was in hot form and made one wee mistake against Argentina and we havent seen him again.
I also struggle to see Ioane as our 13 long term I dont know how many average performances we need to watch from him to get that he was better against SA but he wasn't amazing.
I think TJ wasnt bad at all but I dont see the value of playing him when to be blunt we have two HBs behind him who I think could be really good if given a proper go.
This is the team I would like to see us gravitate towards
1. Ethan
2. Taylor
3. Lomax
4. Barrett
5. Darry
6. Vaai
7. Blackadder
8. Savea
9. Hottam
10. Mckenzie
11. Clarke
12. JB
13. Proctor
14. Reece
15. WJ
16. Aumua
17. Tamati
18. Newall
19. Tuipolutu
20. Peter Lakai
21. Roigard
22. BB
23. ALB
And no its not a typo I put Hottam as the starting halfback I think thats exactly what hes gonna be come the next world cup I cant wait till he gets to show it in black but unfortunately I think he's another super campaign away from getting a proper crack.
But with guys like Aumua Newall Tamati Tuipolutu Peter Roigard and BB coming off the bench . . . They are going to make an impact.
One of the best renditions of the New Zealand national anthem. Or is it just me?
He speaks so much sence lov listening to him respect from me england
Justin was very correct in that the Boks are showing signs of what the AB'S were in the mid 2000's. We have a long way to go to get close to the AB win rate.
That been said, Rassie is a mastermind and currently no coach can come close to him from a stradegy point of view.
Justin Marshall: They didn't watch us doing our stupid dance...😭😭😭😭😭😭
The first problem was that it was an Emirates aircraft at a Springbok game playing the AB's in SOUTH Africa
Being offended is no more than a whine....it has no meaning
I do not think many were offended. The organisers and many S Africans were rightly embarrassed and they were right to offer an apology.
Justin Marshall is a legend. Can listen to him all day.
Couldn't agree more with you, one of the best
Marshall on point! ✔️
The Haka is not a National anthem. We are not obligated to honour it in any shape or form. New Zealand in New Zealand can haka all they want.
Remind yourself of this next time someone dismisses your drivel or talks over you. You just justified the disrespect you deserve. Not accepting the gala challenge is an opportunity missed.
It is the Maori anthem and it is just incredibly rude, as hosts to upfront disrespect it
Time was planned perfectly, it's a competition . Home side will take any advantage all day
The huddle before the Haka threw the timing out for the A380..They had precise settings for a certain tim countdown after first anthem starts
Strange that the haka doesnt qualify as "pre-game bullshit".
The all blacks did a prayer. And i think the organisers did not recon that time in. So they got it wrong it's terable. Im a springbok supporter and love the haka. And that was the best haka ever. I get goose bumps just writing about it. Sorry for those that feel disrepected.
I think there was backlash from South Africans about it. As Mr. Marshall says we all want to experience it. I'm going to Cape Town on Saturday and I can't wait to see a HAKA live.
Dj should be given a warning.
Red card
Excuse me ... pregame bullshit? YOU get to do the haka ... let South Africa do them. The arrogance of expecting other nations to accept NZ pregame haka but you disrespect others. Get a life!
Totally agree about the DJ at the stadium. It's really annoying for me as a South African. It kills the real game anticipation. Bulls did that during the URC final and it was a flop.
Less is more for me. 🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
I cannot understand why the AB's aren't having a 6/2 split. I think it's purely about not wanting to be seen to copying the Boks.
Razor calls the shots but one cannot help think his generals have huge influence in the final decisions
You hit it,on nail.
Huge respect vir AB………..Haka must be appreciated and treated with respect. I am close to 70 years and in all my life SA v NZ is the highlight of the fierce rugby wrestling to determine who is the best on the day. Also true…..hulle weet nie wat ons weet nie. ….go Bokke

Funny thing is, not so long ago when playing the all blacks, you’d get to 60 mins and even if you were 30 points ahead, you didn’t feel like you were safe…
Nowadays, they’re 10 points ahead at 60 mins and you feel like they’re still beatable. I do think the Boks have found a new level though…
Justin and Martin nice take ref decision sometimes for you sometimes againt you

AB ARE BIGGEST RIVAL WE RESPECT THEM THEY HAVE EARNED IT
Agree with Marshall that this AB team is starting to develop and play to a strategy that suits their strengths while developing systems that can counter the defensive and offensive systems of their main competitors.
That said...I'd start with TJ again (though he needs to curb his frustration/emotions with the officials) but switch DMac out for Barrett. As much as he does some spectacular things his game management and kicking is still not consistent enough to be a starting first five. Plummer is an injury replacement for the selectors if Barrett or DMac are ruled out through injury. The only starting 10 we currently have in the squad is Barrett...and he will also be a calming influence on TJ. As to who can replace Barrett at fullback...there is Perofeta, who has taken several years to come on at test level and is now a good back-up. But if you are going to look to the future and for someone with Christian Cullen-like qualities...look no further than Ruben Love. He's slightly bigger than Perofeta, faster, has an uncanny eye for space, and the handling and kicking skills to exploit that space for himself and others. If he's played with his starting Canes center partnership in front of him, we could see some real fireworks. I'd put Ratima on the bench with DMac to cover the pivot in a 6:2 split. The ABs have plenty of utility players in the starting backline who are able to cover the center positions and wings. DMac is an impact player...and feared as such in South Africa...especially at fullback.
As for Rieko...enough already! While he is a great defender, he does not see or create space for others to exploit...and if he does see space, he does not have a true center's range of skills to put his outsides away. He is still a power winger who can tackle and play at center, but not at this level...he's no Conrad Smith or Bruce Robertson. Proctor is a much more gifted all-round center. As for ALB, he's a very good center...and I would be happy to see him instead of Rieko. That said, I'd still have Jordie Barrett in at second five this week, slotted between his brother and Proctor, his partner at the Canes...and see if we can't create a new Nonu and Smith. Also, Jordie's size, offloading ability, and long-range kicking off of both feet are massive assets to have on the paddock. Adding to that, the ABs were running a rush defense, and Jordie is a big eyeline obstacle and was able to pick Kolisi's pocket for a try. If we decide to play Jordan to fullback instead of starting Love, then put Reece on the wing and use him to throw to a lineout and feed a scrum or two to create an added threat off the set piece, width across the paddock, and place a big man in the mid-field...working off set moves.
And now to the forwards. I loved how Williams, Taylor and Lomax went about their work on Saturday. As for the second row, it looked a little underpowered at times, and Vai'i was not able to exert the same dominance he displayed against the Argentinians in the second test. That is a shame because he is a very effective lineout dispruptor and a menace at the breakdown. This week I'd start Vai'i at 6 and Darry at 5. Blackadder at 7. As for the reserves bench, I'd select Tu'angafasi (we do miss DeGroot), Aumua (or Bell), Newell, Tosi (as a lock replacement), Sititi (power and mobility) and Cane (enforcer and our squad commander). Those 6 are our bomb squad -- I'd call them "Commander Cane's Crushers or Flying Squad". Tosi can play lock for 25-30 minutes. He reminds me of more athletic Posolo Tuilagi, who play for the French. Tosi was a decent 8 before converting to loosehead and has the ball handling and mobility to go up the guts, maraud, and create havoc against tiring oppositions. He also has the heft and strength to brace the second row against the power of the bomb squad and to shut down the inside channel on defense.
But most importantly, if we are to truly innovate for the modern game, we need to see the bench as a game within the game. A game built on impact and putting relentless pressure on tiring oppositions with up the guts running and cohesive marauding as a unit for the entire final 25-30 minutes. Just like a cohesive special forces team hell bent on achieving its mission and able to operate with one mind. For that reason, we cannot see our bench as like for like replacements -- as the coaches currently do, seeing them as fresher bodies to "shore things up" and hoping that one or two of them will pull off a few "winning moments" (hate that phrase, because modern benches should be focused on dominating the opposition and winning the whole last 20-25 minutes, every second of it). They should be viewed as a special unit -- selected, coached and drilled (by a dedicated coach and under the leadership an experienced enforcer -- like Cane) to shut down the opposition and wrestle the initiative to finish off opponents...being completely focused and cold-minded in how they go about their work...like a perfect machine...a thing of devastating power and precision. They should be bought on as a unit...not in dribs and drabs...to stun the opposition and shift momentum. And the replacement pivot (scrummie and fly half) should be dialed in to this strategy and drilled alongside the unit to support them and exploit the results of their work...like pathfinders attached to a special forces unit going about its business, calling in air strikes to deal hammer blows and identify and exploit opportunities when they are on. It's the lack of a such a cohesive game within the game strategy, and a system to produce it, that is hampering the ABs in the final 25 minutes. The Springboks have it...sort of...we don't. Razor and his team need to get smarter and make it happen. Bring on Commander Cane's Crushers or Flying Squad.
If Nz did their prayer a little later everything would've been fine. Complaining about this is stupid since everything gets scheduled - that prayers wasn't.
Marshall is a sound block he was a grate player as well iv allways had respect for the man Neil england
When he took Ethan off and not Kane, I think the off the ball work rate of players dropped. Man Ethan was just up in their faces all the time.
The DJ should be quiet for the Haka. At least show that amount of awareness & respect.
AB's are in the same boat as the Boks at the moment. More often than not, when both these team take the field, they not only play against the opposite team, they play against themselves.
So what if the South Africans do their own little dance during the haka? Please man
Two tries were gifted to the AB's as well.
The Boks are going to run rampant in capetown. It will be a rough day for the ABs.
The only thing that will run rampant in cape town is the crime rate
Lots of AB supporters on the Cape..
In other words the ABs don't have a shitshow 😂😂 heard that before 😂😂
@@rodeo4-p6u You usually hear it from AB fans, so this is a little bit different.
There is a chance, you could see another 35 - 7 tomorrow, the Springboks are HUNGRY to win the Fredom Cup back, make it a 4 in a row against the ABs.and there biggest thing, that drives the Springboks,is there fan base, they want to win back some of the ABs supporters in Cape Town.
