Thanks for sharing. I have a similar jig for the same purpose and it works well as you said.

Thank you Scott, I haven't seen that jig before...I'll give it a try...i usually use a jam chuck.

This method works way better for twice turned bowls (as long as that are oriented pith up). I think you'll like it. Plus it's super cheap to make.. Unless it's a quarter-sawn blank. Then I just use a jamb chuck

@@alexanderdesigns814 Why do you use a jam chuck instead of the plate for quarter-sawn blanks?

This style plate doesn't work well for quarter sawn. A flat plate with rubber would work fine. I just don't do enough twice turned pieces to need one.

Great video, thank you for sharing. When you made the jig, how did you ensure the two semi-circles were perfectly parallel to each other? Or is eyeballing it good enough? Thanks!

I put one on, then measured from the top and bottom and made two points. Then connected the dots so to speak. Hopefully that makes sense. I could have eyeballed it and gotten close enough. After all ... most Woodturning is close enough 😂

@@alexanderdesigns814 Okay great. Simple enough! I was over complicating it in my mind. I’ve got the materials to put one of these together so I’ll get on it. I don’t do a lot of twice turned bowls but it’ll be nice to have for when I do. Thanks again for the video and being willing to help in the comments.

I’m about to make one of these. Do I need to true up the plywood edge on the lathe before mounting the two side pieces? I found center on my plywood circle but surely it isn’t dead on. Also: I’m assuming you can’t turn the outside all the way to the rim with this method. The last little bit would need to be done once the bowl is reversed and back in a chuck, correct?

I don't bother worrying about the edges. It's not something you'd want to grab while spinning either way 😂. I generally turn just shy of the rim of the bowl, then finish it up after flipping it around. Hopefully that answers your questions

@@alexanderdesigns814 Yep, that helps! Was mainly wondering about the piece running true, but I suppose that isn’t an issue as long as it’s flat on the face portion. Thanks for the response! Loving your videos.
