This was the first Christmas carol I ever heard and learned. I was in Saint Mary of the Isles School in Cork City, Ireland, from February 1944 to June 1945. I believe it was Sister Aloysius Flanagan who taught us to sing it in time for Christmas 1944. She was one of the most inspirational teachers I ever had.
It can be sung any time after the first Sunday in Advent Anthony but is generally closer to Christmas. Quite popular for use at midnight mass or certainly in my experience.

This is my favorite Christmas carol! I was first introduced to it at The Church of the Advent, Boston MA. Christus Natus Est!
A gorgeous version of a gorgeous carol. I think this song deserves to be better-known.
Beautiful 👍👍❣❣❣👍👍
Thank you so much:)
I feel quite Christmassy all of a sudden! (Nov 27)
Thanks my friend
