  • Follow along as I build a super easy workbench with retractable casters - made completely from 2x4s and plywood! The only tools you need are a circular saw, clamps, and a drill. A miter saw is optional but will be useful for cutting your 2x4s to length.

    First time watching your video, I really thought it was impressive that you start your video out with a scripture. I'm subscribed to you now.

    This is a pretty solid little workbench. While once you figure out how it comes together, it is physically Easy to assemble ruclips.net/user/postUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh by yourself. But the diagrams explaining the steps are really pretty bad. I could not get the handle pins in all the way despite multiple attempts, so I just used a screw I had on hand for the 2nd handle. I could not get the first pin in further or pull it back out. You are supposed to hammer it in, but I had no leverage and the handle is plastic and I did not want to risk breaking it. I will get a lot of use out of the bench because of the convenient size and height. It does fold up nicely for storage. They even explain how to fold it so you don't get pinched...that is important!

    The biggest irony of woodworking is that one of the most useful things to have when building a workbench... is a workbench.

    Thanks for the Scripture reading, I really enjoyed it. Nice easy uncomplicated build. What I like most is that when the castors are disengaged, they don't protrude beyond the workbench which will lead to one tripping over them, which is not a good idea when working with power tools.
    God bless and have a super day.

    Thank you so much for watching! I recently launched a blog with plans for this project, so if you’re looking to build a workbench like this, there’s a detailed cut list as well as step by step photos of the build process (all free): augustpineworkshop.com/posts/easy-2x4-workbench-with-retractable-casters/

    How do you keep the caster board up? To keep it from wedging on the concrete?

    • @augustpineworkshop

      The key is to have enough of the legs below the bottom shelf that the wheels can flip up without it getting stuck. As long as the clearance is large enough, there should be space for the wheels to flip up. I hope that helps, but let me know if that doesn’t answer your question!

    This is a good budget for people that own basic saws and equipment to build already. If you don’t this is going to cost you several hundred more. So for first timers your going to spend well over $500 but at least you will have woodshop tools and a place to put them lol

    • @augustpineworkshop
      @augustpineworkshop  Год назад

      That’s a great point, unfortunately the cost of tools can definitely be a hurdle with woodworking. Even though I used a miter saw for this build, you should be able to do this project with just a drill and circular saw which would be one way to lower the cost of tools a little bit (and those tools are probably a little easier to borrow from a friend than a miter saw). Thanks for watching!

      @@augustpineworkshop yeah I would love to have a setup once I build a workbench. At least a table saw is easy to use. Eventually I want to build a workbench and a hutch for my toolbox since the harbor freight hasn’t made hitches for their US General toolboxes.

    Hey awesome build and really like the idea here. But what am I missing? 81” top rails - 3” (2x4 legs) = 78” inside - inside clearance for bottom shelf. But bottom shelf is 78” long plus 3” (2x4 end caps) =81” clearance needed.
    Correct me if I’m wrong please cause I can’t figure out what I’m missing lol.

    • @augustpineworkshop
      @augustpineworkshop  5 месяцев назад

      Thank you! I’m sorry but I’m not quite sure I understand your question. But from what you listed out I believe that is all correct. The top is 3” longer because of the addition of the 2x4s to the length as you mentioned and the bottom shelf is smaller because it sits inside of the 2x4s along the corners.

    • @horz007
      @horz007 5 месяцев назад

      @@augustpineworkshop I was just referring to your cut list I guess. The bottom rails should be cut to 75” instead of 78”, if I am correct that is. I was just making sure I did everything correctly. Thanks again for the awesome build!

    Really? 1/2" plywood top?

    • @augustpineworkshop
      @augustpineworkshop  5 месяцев назад

      Yeah, I went this route because it was quite a bit less expensive than 3/4” (especially at that time wood prices were super high). In hindsight I wish I had gone a bit thicker to have the possibility of routing t-track or using a dovetail clamp setup. The good thing is with this setup it’s pretty easy to swap out the top in the future and I could still use the old top for another project where 1/2” would be more suitable!
