  • "Whiskey Lullaby", performed by The John Jorgenson Bluegrass Band (www.johnjorgenson.com) at the Institute of Musical Traditions (www.imtfolk.org), Rockville, Maryland, USA on September 30, 2013.
In his review on the IBMA website, Taylor Coughlin says: "On July 25, the too-fresh-for-a-bio John Jorgenson Bluegrass Band indulged the crowd at The Station Inn with the Seldom Scene hit Wait a Minute, written by Pedersen, Whiskey Lullaby written by Randall, Desert Rose Band tunes (Jorgenson and Pedersen were founders and bandmates), Scruggs classics, and more. There was warmth, and storytelling, and lots of laughter as this fresh band of legends invited Roland White, an old bandmate of Pedersen's from The New Kentucky Colonels days, onstage to play. Jorgenson asked White what instrument he should play, to which White replied, 'Is there anything you don't play?' White told Jorgenson to pick up the mandolin."
The John Jorgenson Bluegrass Band includes some of the best in bluegrass: Herb Pedersen on banjo, Jon Randall on guitar, and Mark Fain on bass.
Sound: Art Isaacs, Dave Eisner, Dave Richardson
Camera: Laura Christoplos, Emily Whiting, Tim Twomey, Ralph Lillie
    Editing: Ralph Lillie

Jon Randall- one of Nashville’s BEST kept secrets, if not the most unsung. Giant talent and as humble as the day is long. Beautiful.

Saw them sing this at a very small gig in Menai Bridge (north Wales). Probably one of the top five gigs I've been to, and I've seen quite a few.

Saw them at an intimate gig in n Wales last Sunday - blew away the audience. Best 20 dollars I ever spent. As Darlene says - "This ain't no cover"

This cut is an example of "Good stuff in..Good stuff out" You can always count on John Jorgenson to put together a fine band of top drawer musicians and an exquisite show. The band at this juncture had gigged live less than a half dozen times! Absolutely wonderful performance. Please share this video and get the word out.

Agreed! I actually debated whether or not to go see this show - bluegrass not being my favorite genre. In the end I decided it was JJ and that I just had to go. Man was I glad I did!
The lesson being it doesn't matter what the genre is. Great musicians make great music regardless. So just Go!!

My introduction to this song was by Brad Paisley. I nearly always like the introductory version best, but this flies in the face of my prejudices. This is a wonderful version.

Once read the story behind this song. It was borne out of Jon Randall’s intense depression following the end of his marriage to Lorrie Morgan. The legendary Bill Anderson is the other writer. Mr. Randall is now married to singer Jessi Alexander.
