    I ran my Last marathon reaching flow state many times. Sometimes, during the race, i felt a very intense sense of plenitude and a great feeling to be alive and thinking What a great chance to have enough health to do such a thing. Now, i am planning to go deeper on the FS studies associated with running activity mainly.
    Thanks for sharing and regards from Brazil.

    Definitely find I get into flow state in tempo runs when I'm in that comfortably hard zone so the skill/challenge explanation makes sense! I love the trigger word idea I'm going to use that next time.

    • @ThisMessyHappy
      @ThisMessyHappy  3 года назад

      Yes I’m the same, tempo is when I get in to it the most. And I’m so so lucky that almost every race day I’m in flow state. Mostly luck but I’m backwards engineering how the hell it happens 😂

    Wow I had no idea this was a thing! The other day I was running on a very steep hill up in the snowy mountain and my body desperately wanted me to stop but I kept thinking “wings on my feet” and it really helped me push through! I thought this was a stupid thing I only did but I’m glad to hear it’s something common! Another thing that motivates me is certain phrases from ultra marathoner “Yiannis Kouros” that I have saved on my phone and play them on my air pods when I struggle while running! It literally gives me shivers and I can push harder when I feel like I can’t! Great content as always!

    For sure going to use those tips, I must say I have never ran with music due to fear that it will make me unable to hear passers by like cyclers, cars etc. On the recovery note, went on my first run since 2 weeks yesterday with a 3.5 km in 18.15, although the time didn't bother me at all because I was so happy to run again.

    Great video Ben, so interesting. Lots of this is me on a run. Positive or negative thoughts before you start and on my run gives me a good or big slog of a run. Like you I'm constantly telling myself to relax my hands and arms and have better position. And also like Mary I'm telling myself about posture and straighten my back, lucky I'm not talking out loud😂😂😂

    • @ThisMessyHappy

      Ha ha yes best not talk out loud or people would have you committed 😂 I think the acknowledging thoughts is huge. Then sending them packing 🤜

    So good, Ben! Thanks again. Sometime ago I felt I needed to stop listening to music while training and it has been very beneficial in building mental toughness and stamina. Now I only reserve my ear buds for the ultimate lows when racing long distance.

    Ooo really interesting! I didn’t know about flow state. I think I have found it more often trail or fell running. Especially the point in the run when you’ve warmed up, done most of the climbing and are just ridge running and descending.

    I noticed I tension my left hand when the pace picks up really strange and Im trying to stop it.

    • @ThisMessyHappy
      @ThisMessyHappy  3 года назад

      No secrets really. It’s about consistency of training without over reaching and then having a plan for the actual run (which is in a few hours). One thing I’m good at is pacing myself so I’m going in with that mindset 💪🏻

  • @scotbenson8097

    Accessing FS is not difficult (for me). I discovered it 3 years ago. I'm wondering what it might tell us about our running DNA?...and how it might lead us for more effective individual training pathways?
    What say you??

    • @ThisMessyHappy
      @ThisMessyHappy  3 года назад

      That’s an interesting question in itself! No doubt it’s easier for some to get in to than others but, if you take me for example, it’s nothing I have consciously done so I’m a product of the environment in that sense but I think it’s a positive that if we all trained it we could access it even more often! So we’re all at a different starting point (like with our physical attributes) but we can all train it 💪🏻

    • @scotbenson8097
      @scotbenson8097 3 года назад

      With me, I can set FS. up every day to the point it floats up feelings of guilt. Cascades of unsolicited thoughts that answer business, or personal "issues". I've Trade Marked 3. I know, it sounds crazy!,
      Maybe I need to train at a 200mpw to test my FS limits, but not likely at 61years old.
