- In the year 1700, India was worth a staggering 21 trillion dollars by today’s standards. Its economy was so large and so powerful that is was bigger than all of Western Europe’s combined. 250 years later, India was one of the poorest countries in the world. So what went wrong?

Under the Mughals, Bengal Subah generated almost 50% of the empire's gross domestic product (GDP) and 12% of the world's GDP. It was basically the indian subcontinents california. 😔

British used Maratha soldiers to bring down the last standing Sikh empire and later used angry Sikhs to snuff the revolt of 1857.
