  • I've shown some tiny PC / Raspberry PI hardware VST hosts on this channel in the past, which were powerful enough to run a lot of plugins at once, but were ultimately let down by the fiddly touch screen. In this video, I show how you can create your own touch-friendly user interface for any VST plugin setup with an open source software named Open Stage Control.

    Some bands / artists I've been following for a long time are (among others) Massive Attack, Pink Floyd, Pet Shop Boys, Archive, A-Ha, Yes, Porcupine Tree, John Mellencamp, Jean-Michel Jarre, Metallica, Peter Gabriel and Perturbator. So my music will kind of sound like those (without ever reaching the greatness of those artists, of course). :-)

    This was my solution too, I use it with VST convolution reverbs❤. It is much cheaper as any Hardware FX.

    Very, very useful stuff. One could also connect a little MIDI controller to the RaspberryPi and have an even better hands-on control over plugins from a distance. Behringer x32 comes to mind, but there are also excellent DIY solutions to make a similar MIDI controller with many pots &or buttons &or faders, if you're inclined so. Personal fav: 16 pots, 8 faders, 8-16 buttons. Lovely channel, man.

      Thank you very much! Yes, you can use this in many more ways than I showed here. E.g. DMX for lightshows, controlling machines, really anything that can go by with some knobs and sliders.

      And now low-latency bluetooth MIDI makes it all wireless too

    I'm on version 4 of my touchscreen modular system in Max. Since it literally just loads bpatchers as modules, it can do vst stuff (although I'm not quite there yet). Once I'm satisfied with it's stability and playability I'll probably release it as a package. Who knows when that'll be though lol

    Can You make a video using this mini PC with midiguitar2 and a VSTi?
    In order to know if this setup could replace a pickup based device like Roland GR-55
    Thank You I love your videos

      Perhaps I'll do a couple of RUclips shorts trying some plugins my viewers suggested, or a live stream - once I'm done with my obligations ;)

    you can build custom touch interfaces on android or ios with TOUCHOSC

    • @mr_floydst
      @mr_floydst  5 месяцев назад +2

      This is true and Touch OSC is a great app. This one here is open source though and relies on web technologies, so it's easily expandable and adaptable by anyone who knows web coding (read: a lot of people)

      @@mr_floydst well tosc also has scripting capabilities. I recently finished a prototype of my own groove box thing. And now I can use Ableton like a groove box.

    Another great video Floyd. I've been trying out Steinberg VST live with my mini pc and 10" Touch screen and it's going pretty well!
    You can't sidechain audio though so can't use vocoders. But apart from that it's been good so far.

    • @mr_floydst
      @mr_floydst  5 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks! You could take a look at "Niall Moody's Pedalboard 2" or "Kushview Elements" for sidechaining setups. (I never tried myself, though)
