Bayezid's impression of Sumbul reminds me of Hurrem doing that during her first morning with Sultan Suleiman. She impersonated Sumbul Agha, Daye Hatun, and Nigar Kalfa, which made the sultan laugh so much. That's why he called her Hurrem. 😊

He was an Ottoman Sultan where fratricide law was common, a Sultan who has seen his own father (Sultan Selim 1) killing his grandfather (Sultan Bayezid), brothers and tried killing his own son(Sulaiman) for the throne. Ofcourse, with a little bit of some rebellion or other such rumours, it was obvious for Sulaiman to get suspicious and paranoid because the Ottoman history dictated so. Selim learnt how to survive by keeping his head low as he had his mother's survival instincts but the others didn't learn and got succumbed to it.
You can totally see how awkward it is for Selim to be there. While Hurrem, Beyazid, and Mihrimah are all joking and laughing; Selim's sitting there watching them. Its like he doesnt even want to try and join in
Meryem Uzerli played the role of young Hurrem very well, but to be honest, I just can't see her being the mother of grown up Selim and Bayezid. It just doesn't make sense.. also, has anyone realized that Mustafa's actor (Mehmet Gunsur) is older than Meryem, Nur (Mahidevran), Selma (Hatice), and Deniz (Sahuban)? I guess making boys look younger is easier than making girls look older. Vahide has much more chemistry with her children, and that is because of her age and experience as a mother.
Agreed. Meryem was spectacular, but age wise she didn’t make sense to stay on, and it would be more than natural that she reach burnout when she did. She put her soul into that performance, just as Vahide did with little effort.

The only hug between bayezid and selim, through out the whole series...it gave goosebumps to watch them together and in good terms... obviously, bayezid's too much arrogance and being under direct influence of mustafa made selim insecured, otherwise selim was a good guy

The family which mahidevil never had, she will suffer forever. Here we see future sultan Selim and valide mihrimah sultan, thats how she was and that's because Selim loved her, she always represented their mother, valide hurrem sultan.
Honestly, this starting scene was the moment where I realized that, ah, yep, we've decided to go the stereotypical way of writing the şehzades, I see 🙄Should've learned my lesson with Mustafa, but sometimes I wish they let Selim be more fully realized and complex (there are other scenes of his I love but immediately slapping us in the face with the drinking issue feels silly. As it was probably a result of stress/PTSD/survivor's guilt, it would've been better being built to.)
True, I hate how the series treats his addition to wine as something laughable and dumb but in reality Selim had major ptsd and depression and it’s because of this he only had one son for awhile. People also forget that Suleman drank as well but he didn’t have an addiction .This season will make you very upset, though entertaining to watch it doesn’t make sense historical wise.
I really admire how the characters are aged in this series, both makeup and the actors themselves. The grown children look like they really could be the ones who portrayed them as youngsters. And the adults show age gracefully, not just graying hair or applied wrinkles
I don’t like how all the Şehzades (except Cihangir of course) were given beards right from the get go. Historically, Şehzades weren’t allowed to have beard, so why does Selim and Bayezid have one? In real life, it is said that Mustafa went against tradition and grew a beard so I understand him having one, but not the other two.
I agree it’s strange, could’ve turned it into a plot point. It also made sense with mustafa to show him progressively aging, without the beard he looks years younger.

Mustafa had beard and Suleiman was mad, it's one of the reasons he executed Mustafa. It's said he asked him to shave it but Mustafa refused. Only sultans were allowed to have beards and that way its like Mustafa was trying to be equal to suleiman. It sounds stupid in 2021 but that's 1545, sorry.
