      Right.. Iskandar shouldn't provoke Kosem when he knew how she would like to revenge. "eye to eye, tooth to tooth & life exchange of life" was her way to take revenge. Safiye used & killed her sister. So how much she gave excuses of her sons security to Ahmed 1 for killing Iskandar at 1st time , avenging her sister was her motto . Because she also saved Mustafa & loved Osman though she knew they could kill her sons, never tried to kill them like Iskandar
      Besides, he threatened her at that moment when she was in killer mode to avenge Mehmed's death. She had already stated to kill the killers..

    The lure of power can be the most tempting thing, and more often than not, it is also what leads to our downfall. Kosem/Anastasia and Iskender are just about the two characters I sympathize with the most because at the end of the day, they are both very tragic characters. Anastasia used to be a very kind, honest, innocent young girl, living happily with her real family in Greece, loved by her parents and her sister until she was dragged away from family and home and forced to adapt to survive in probably the most unforgiving environment you could imagine in a human civilization.
    Iskender on the other hand, although his life was anything but easy, being a Janissary conscript and all that, had a good heart inside him and a good head on his shoulders. He cared about other people's feelings, and he was even willing to put his life on the line for the people he cared about, but the way I see it, in the end it was his desire to be reunited with his lost family that was his downfall. His biggest weakness was his longing for a family, and Safiye Sultan, the witch that she was, used that feeling against him for her own ends, even in spite of the fact that he is her own son and in spite of the lessons she should have learned from her past failed attempts at power.
    If you ask me, the moment Iskender learned he had royal blood, he should have burned or perhaps sold that talismanic shirt he got, got all the money he could get his hands on, took Zulfikar's advice, got on a ship, and just gotten the heck out of there, and start a new and better life for himself somewhere else because in the Ottoman Empire, being a royal is just about nearly a death sentence in its own right. Also, that wasn't his only problem, because his last and second biggest weakness was his innocent, albeit unrealistic romantic feelings for Anastasia/Kosem. I'll bet he imagined that if he somehow managed to get rid of her children and install himself as Sultan, he'd be free to interact with and perhaps even marry Kosem if he liked.
    However, this just wasn't possible because Kosem viewed anyone other than her family who vied for the throne as a threat to her and the people she loved, as well as the fact that in spite of what he did for her, she just didn't want him because she had already given all of her innocent love to Ahmed, whom she loved even after he died, including bore many children. But, regardless of this, he just wouldn't let go because of his own stubbornness and perhaps arrogance as well which was probably due to his newfound bloodline, causing him to even threaten the lives of Kosem's children straight to her face, which was the last straw for her. Even his old Janissary commander, Zulfikar, told him to leave and not return for his own safety. In the end, he was just another tragic character who got caught in the crossfire between Kosem and his infinitely arrogant and hateful mother, Safiye, which is why I feel so sorry for him, I suppose.

  • @patrickmartin6449
    @patrickmartin6449 Год назад +4

    Also, you want to know what I'm thinking? I'm thinking that Iskender knew that the chest Zulfikar gave him was booby-trapped, judging by how he just closed his eyes when it turned out there was a bomb rigged to the sword. It's hard for me to see it in another way, I'm just saying. Iskender obviously was looking at the box and Zulfikar with suspicion, so why did he not act on them if it could have saved his life? Honestly, my theory as to this is because of Kosem's defiant rejection of him. Seriously, Iskender, what do you want from people? You threaten a woman's children straight to her face while holding her at knife point and you expect her to just resign herself to your whims?
    The way I see it, the only reason Iskender chose to go along with his so-called mother's never-ending grand schemes for power was due to his desire for and his romantic but unrealistic feelings for Kosem. He may have wanted her, but even if she did feel something for him, she never could have nor would have openly reciprocated those feelings because she knew it would have been simply too dangerous while his mother, Safiye, was still around. She didn't expose his secret to Ahmed because she felt threatened by him so much as she felt threatened by Safiye. Kosem knew from experience that Safiye would have stopped at nothing to see her son enthroned, and that's why she was so scared, both for herself, her children's futures, and Ahmed's safety.
    After that, along with her rejection of him at the marketplace, I think h probably just decided to throw in the towel, really. I think his three biggest weaknesses that led to his defeat were his passion for Kosem bordering extremity, his desire to have a family, and his arrogance due to his newfound status as a prince, making him think he could survive any danger. He thought he could make Kosem surrender in the war of attrition that was going on for the throne, but he just did not understand her or her feelings at all. All of the wars she had fought and won in that crazy harem up until that point, against snakes like Safiye, Handan, Mahfiruze, Katerina, and Halime, showed that she had a lot more cunning, intelligence, charisma, passion, and sheer determination than most men and women and she knew how to use that to her advantage. All of these factors are more than enough, in my opinion, to explain why Iskender simply never could have won against someone like Kosem because she simply wasn't that same innocent, helpless damsel in distress that he met all those years ago.

    The deference between hureem and kosem.. Hureem become ruthless to her enemies only and fight for her love to salayman and equality to power but every one degrade her and become nuturious to protect herself and son's against them nor every one who hurt them. But the facts is she really want to accept them as part of ottoman and wife and queen of sulayman..she tried to have a piece between her family and also to sulayman...she did not think to hurt her princess.. And she did not think to have another king sultan beside her, it's only sultan sulayman.. She did not want to to quarell her sons to the throne while the king is still alive...and when she become sick and near to die she ask forgiveness to whom she offended so its seems her mind is on the rights track but she needed to fight for herself that's the caus and effect.... But kosem she became hungry for power, as the mother you can rule and support your son's by side to ruled the world.. She said she's fighting for her princes but she was the one hurting them.. She can't sacrifice herself to her owns sons, besides they will become the sacrifier to her power...wheres the loved of the guinuin mother.. End the end all her sons life loss,, she losses the rights path... And the end what shes fighting for,? for whom?.. That's a lonely life...

      The problem is that your thinking is not on the right path..Kosem was trying to be just and fair..she was far sighted and had greater wisdom in governing a nation than all her sons...its a pity that she had to take a backseat inspite of her wisdom and her sons were deceived by those who turned mother and son against each other...Anastasia aka Kosem just fulfilled her late husband 's wish and supported her family in the best way that she could...Hurrem and Kosem lived totally different lives...Hurrem always had her husband to support her..she only had to fight for his love but Kosem was a widow who had to singlehandedly fight for her children and the stability of the nation entrusted to her by her late husband...Kosem truly proved to be special..a woman of Steel indeed !!

Their families were murdered, they were kidnapped and brought to a foreign place, made to convert and were only worth something if they gave birth to a prince. I can’t say I blame them for fighting fire with fire, they had to struggle for power or they would be overpowered. This is an empire where brothers killed brothers for a throne but the women fighting for the same thing is where you draw the line? If you’re going to judge morals than at least do it equally.
