    Fun little detail you missed
Gandalfs ring Narya (the ring of fire) within the story is hidden.
So throughout the movies the viewer cannot see a ring on his finger.

In ROTK the army attacking minas tirith was going to feature a lot more easterlings like the ones you see at the black gate. The orcs were also going to be smaller than men,les armoured and the easterlings would be the more elite part of the army. In the end they dropped the idea and redesigned the orcs to be more of a "uniform" with a dragon scale like armour, red clothes and the easterlings completely cut. But some scenes were stil filmed and used in the movie. Al the scenes when they attack minas tirith at night with the catapults you can see easterlings in the background standing among the orcs and when the gate is breached you can also see a formation of easterlings behind the horde of orcs coming through the gate.

Gandalf's staff is kind of a story itself, the pipe staff was with him from the beginning of FotR until he was held captive by Saruman and that staff was confiscated.
Then after he escaped he managed to get a new almost identical one which he slotted in a crystal on the tip when entering Moria, notice unlike the previous pipe staff this one lacks the spike nail, and he lost it during the fight with Balrog (in the book it's shredded when he used it to break the bridge apart).
And later when he returned as Gandalf the White we see him with a new white staff that bears a resemblance to elvish motif, and it accompanied him up until he was confronted with the witch king during the defence of Minas Tirith and was shredded into pieces.
And at some point later he somehow regained a same one as we can see when they bid their farewell in Grey Havens.
Then we're back to the pipe staff, and turns out it once belonged to Radagast and was given to Gandalf after his very first one burned into ashes when he engaged the Necromancer in Dol Guldur.

Another detail I very much like is, in The Return of the King when they ride out to the Black Gates of Mordor and Sauron calls out to Aragorn and puts him in a spell, Gandalf makes a hand gesture that can barely be seen in the shot and then Aragorn turns back, smiles and says "For Frodo". I mean, it pretty clear that Gandalf counters Sauron's evil spell right there. So subtle but so perfect.

This was an awesome video! I learned something in each section, and I've probably watched the entire trilogy, extended versions, a dozen times!
One thing I didn't get. When Aragorn set off the boat with Boromir's body above the Falls of Rauros, Boromir was lying peacefully inside the boat. The boat was then about to go over the falls. But when Faramir found the boat with his brother's body, Boromir was still lying exactly the same. Wouldn't going over the falls disturb his position, if not throw him out of the boat entirely?

When i first noticed that Aragorn had taken Boromir's bracers (I was really young then), I initially thought: "Wait a minute, did he just steal them from him? What an asshole!" Now, I can see it more clearly as a gesture of honoring Boromir's memory, but you could also interpret it as Aragorn simply selfishly looting Boromir's corpse.

I noticed none of these observations in the movies. However there is an interesting observation not in this list. When Arwen and Aragorn are discussing getting the wounded Frodo to Rivendell where he can perhaps be saved by Arwen's father they start to speak in high Elvish:
Aragorn: Stay with the hobbits - I'll send horses for you.
Arwen: I'm the faster rider - I'll take him.
Aragorn: The road is too dangerous.
Arwen: If I can get across the river, the power of my people will protect him.
And then Arwen switches over to the Common Tongue, English, to say my favorite line in the three movies:
    I do not fear them.
Question: Why does she switch over to the Common Tongue to say this line?
This was a very good touch of the screen writers because I do not think it was in the original book. It would not work in print as well as it works on screen. Tolkien would have been please.

in the scene where Frodo is lying in the forest, injured by the blade, and Aragorn and the other three hobbits are around him, you can see three petrified giants in the background. You forgot one super obscure fact in the two towers when Aragorn kicks the helmet Viggo Mortensen actually broke his toe. It's such a cool detail why does nobody talk about it?

    • @catherineearnshaw8472

Everyone knows that. It's the least obscure fact in the whole trilogy.

    • @DequaLB
      @DequaLB 3 месяца назад +1

Cause everyone knows that. Just like orlando broke a rib when gimlis double landed on him, sam getting a sizable glass shard underneath his foot, viggo also chipped a tooth when a metal prop hit him, viggo also deflected a metal sword prop when the Uruk hai threw it at him etc.

the last time I watched LOTR was with my older brother way back 2006 and I don't have any clue what was going on but I enjoyed it. and right now I rewatched it again now I understand why it's one of the best films that exist. Crazy how a film feels like a journey with the characters also. I was so warped in and everything around me just fades.

Legolas and Aragon return the gesture to Elrond yes, but did you notice Gandalf nod in return and Gimli turn away awkwardly (dwarf - elf relations at the time)

  • @SarahMacDonald1991

Gandalf does acknowledge Elrond’s blessing with a nod. Legolas probably found a hard patch of snow he also wasn’t carrying any of the hobbits.

Legolas made a big deal about being able to walk on snow in the book so when I saw the movie in the theater I noticed they removed him bragging/showing off about it but kept the walking on snow as a nod to that scene in the book.

I'm not sure I've seen the Pippin mask, but somewhere before they charge the Orcs, you can see Gimli's scale double.
    Only noticed the Legolas one...

Im pretty sure Legolas walking on snow is because he has better balance, Gandalf is clearly carving a path out for everyone else, so they dont get blown off the mountain side...

I noticed the different Uruk armour. I used to paint the Lotr warhammer 😂 spent hours studying the different armour.
If you rewatch RotK you’ll notice some orcs wear Gondor armour. Looted from their dead enemies.
I love the back story this gives minor or extra characters

Has anyone noticed Eomer lose his sword in the Two Towers? Look closely when he mounts his horse after talking with Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli. It slips out of his scabbard- it is at the very lower left of the screen.
