Good video of how to disassemble especially only using one hand, you're a magician, ha. diff090 made a very good point, with the work involved always replace all the lamps when you open up the instrument panel, they are not that expensive when compared to the time and effort involved to disassemble and reassemble. One important point is not to touch the lamps with your bare hands, wear nitrile gloves or use a clean rag to insert the new lamp into the holder. Oil from your hands/fingers get on the lamp and when heated it eventually caused hot spot and premature failure. Keep up the good work with your videos, I enjoy watching so I can keep my '99 R170 going.
Fupabox your videos are great! I'm 60+kiwi girl with limited mechanical knowledge. But also limited funds so yr videos have helped me lift centre consul and clean circuit board '97 c200 after the new puppy ate it! You explain SO well. Shame you're not my age, rich and single. 😁 You have a talent 4 teaching. Great work. Thanks. If you come down under anytime let me know! I'll shout you a coffee/ beer.
+Girl600 Show I did a video on my w202 playlist regarding the stuck key issue.. It;s a crude repair but costs nothing if you can get the key to turn just one more time.. once the key will no longer turn the dealer or a good locksmith would need to be called..using a little lubricant on the key you may be able to get it to turn ,,,then the video link below can hopefully help ruclips.net/video/Qn7FzkTqUA8/видео.html
Good tutorial with one mistake. You missed one screw underneath the ignition lock. Without loosing that scew you break the tacho cover, which you did (see approx. at 5:07 min) and unfortenutely me also following your tutorial. So it might be a good idea to add at least one big comment in your video!
Do you have to remove the lower panel to get to the screw you're saying is missed in the tutorial? Also, so everyone knows, there are two plugs on the back, one on either side at the top. You cannot pull the cluster out and unplug them. You have to reach in (at least that's the only way I could do it) through the hole created by removing the left side air duct and work by feel. It was probably the hardest part for me, especially the farthest away, closest to the ignition switch. The other thing was that since I had cruise control, I simply could not get the cluster out, at least, I dared not push against the odometer stems any harder than I did. I pulled it out far enough to rotate it forward to get to the bulb sockets on the back.
Thanks for the video, this will help to do it myself, I have an 04 slk 320 when my roof is down the roof red switch light start to blink and it doesnt turn off, it all started when I hit a pot hole that shook the car, I think a switch may have moved or need to replace, can you help or anyone that may know what to do, thanks cheers!
Change all the backlight bulbs while you're at it. If you want to use LEDs, use the bulbs that have multiple chips, not just one, or you'll have "spotty" light with bright and dark spots.
Do you know how to take out the centre console or make a video? Where the two cubbys bins are behind gearstick and the park brake. Mine has locked with the vacuum.
the larger bulbs can just be swapped for leds , the smaller ones are built into the bulb holder.. The larger ones would be a T10 led... the smaller ones a T5 led . The small ones you would have to get the specific ones with the holder built in .. heres an example depending on the colour you want www.ebay.ca/itm/10Pcs-T5-B8-5D-5050-SMD-LED-Dashboard-Dash-Gauge-Instrument-Light-Bulbs-Blue/253589146995?fits=Make%3AMercedes-Benz&hash=item3b0b174d73:g:M9cAAOSwPHxa4~NB&vxp=mtr
Invest in a telescoping magnet lol :) great job with one hand and your phone geees I just ordered some GoPro cameras including a head set for jobs like this that I want to video tape, I got tired of using my phone too lol :o
I get lazy sometimes .. lol.. Hmm should I go change the camera , format an sd card , or be lazy and pick up the phone right beside me .. :) Magnet is a priority in all tool boxes . I have 6-7 different ones , 2-3 that I can find usually , but the others are there ....somewhere :)
Hi friend. I need to change two bulbs, but I have a doubt. My steering wheel has no height adjustment, can the frame be removed without removing the steering wheel? THANKS
yes.. how they will look glowing through the orange on the gauges may look weird . you can try out different colours and see how it looks . Blue mixed with the orange numbers on the gauge should turn out kind of purple
thaonhi1411 Nguyen I actually downloaded a pdf on that exact problem ...here's a link to a photo instruction for replacing the regulator www.benzworld.org/forums/r170-slk-class/1331326-rear-wing-window-regulator-replacement.html
Had to work on my hydraulic hood up/down to the point I took almost all of those silly plastic covers out of the trunk. Pretty much everything is accessable now.
That ignition video from you W202 was the 1st vid I watch a few months ago. Thanks for the tips and help in general. Would u suggest I buy a generic tumbler that fits an SLK for around $17 or should a used OEM ignition for $240 if your key wouldn't turn anymore?
194 wedge ...make sure you get the same wattage bulb ..the wattage is marked on the back of the cluster at each bulb ..2w 1.5w etc. too high a wattage bulb can melt the plastic
U forgot most important part, remove battery cable first. I replaced my bulbs one time and deposit gauge stop working because i havent turned battery off
@@SLK-ef7iw o disconected battery and unplug cables from panel again, Check if any pin got damaged and reconect. Then turn battery and Check if it works.
Your video's are a huge help to my SLK maintenance. I really appreciate your posting of them.
Thanks a lot!
Your 7 year old video just helped to dismount cluster without any damage.
This time to me :)
Good to hear 👍

I thought I was going to have to take the wheel off to replace my bulbs. Thanks for the video, glad I saw this first!
A bit of a finicky job . Brittle plastics are the biggest pain . Do it with warm interior if possible .
Thanks, this video like this saved me hundreds of dollars and The Feeling That I did it myself is priceless.

OMG, what a beast to do. Bless your heart. I do a lot w. my ol' SLK, but I would never tackle this.
Excellent video, thanks man, you saved me from having to figure this out myself lol
magnificent tutorial, thx. Przydało się i nie trzeba tyle rozkręcać jak pokazują gdzie indziej
Thanks from 🇪🇸 for the tutorial friend !!!

Cool please keep making videos about this SLK 230 .
This video is definitely going to be helpful for me 👍🇬🇧respect

Did u see if there is an option to change miles to km.
My slk is lhd, but was in england and has speedo in miles, so i want to convert it back to km.
I didn't . I don't believe there is one . You can have it changed at the dealership with their software
@@fupabox eh thanx, but no thanx !!
thanks for the help dont want to crack my whole interior haha

you can move the wheel in and out so you can extend it toward you as fsr as it will come and have enough clearance
Can you put blue or green LED-s instead of the bulbs?
(Just like with the w202)

@@fupabox Okay, thank you!
I will try it. 😁
Good tip better than removing steering wheel
Whenn I unplug and then plug the Connectors again, is "Display Time" and "Display km" still the same as before or is it reset? Does anyone know ?
That helped a lot, thank you!
I need to know the size of the other bulbs, I want to replace it with leds. The bigger one´s are T10, and the other bulbs?
T5
