Hi My friend. Nice head's up on that mod. that was one of the first up grade's i did on my three 144001..lol..here is a free mod to stop the wheel's coming off when bashing or speed runs'. Use the lock nuts from the shock towers and swap them with the wheel nut's And no more wheels flying off when running. Work's well try it .no need to use Loctite...Another great video.
At the end of the day, the reason you buy LC Racing is because this pin represents every component of this WLT. Quality matters in the long run. Precision and quality of metals and plastics add up quick. Support hard working small business if you can and save money in the long run. Win Win Win
Yep, I made this mod early on. I’m not a big fan of metal upgrades, but this is a must on the 144001 if you’re going to speed run with brushless power.
I feel like the reason this has become a problem is because when WLtoys originally produced this car, the axle shafts were slightly too short. Which caused the wheel nuts to fall off because the locking part of the wheel nut was not gripping onto the axle shaft. They have since corrected the problem and increased the length of the axle shaft slightly to allow the wheel nuts to lock properly. Thus, no longer requiring the wheel nuts to be cranked on so hard.
thats nice to know... i just got my car last week and treads do show after snugging up wheels... if you use blue locktite you do not have to over tighten them either...
My man! Do you know how bad I have been ripping my hair out trying to figure out what was binding in mine? It has been driving me nuts! Thank you for the info, your a life saver!
Everyone definitely has to use metal hexes. I certainly hope no one was trying to do speed upgrades with plastic hexes! It's great to know what cost-cutting measures WLToys takes so that we can easily improve the car.
All my cars still run plastic hex but I payed special attention to make sure they never burried in, It's great you solved that problem with yours mate 👍
From you I respect that a lot, it's just I've had 2 wheels come loose on other speed run cars before so like the wheels nice and tight but the 144001 wheels seem to bind the hex AND bend the pin when tightened. Quite a few other people have also said the same, makes me wonder if it's worth you trying them to see if you can unleash more speed. Fitting mamba x setup back in, although STILL struggling to fit any esc in under the Phat bodies (mini excepted). Hope you're doing well. I am thinking of doing a live show one night soon and would like you on it. I'll contact you via your about page
@@DriftomaniacsRC thanks mate I am doing well and Finally gave you a shout out on my latest upload 😂 That would be awesome mate I would love to get involved. You can also message me on IG @ the.rc.master or Facebook Dan bratic Petrak 👍
I bought a set for $2 from China. Just a 3-4 week wait lol ,but I broke the gear case and can’t locally source the parts. So new gear case and a bunch of new metal parts on the way!
Thanks for doing this one. I'm redoing one of mine with all aluminum also, no motor yet, but have been running 1/16 e revo wheels/tires on this one and figured the hexes would be more durable but never thought about this type of binding other than flat out over tightening. Love the vids,Peace from Michigan.
with respect this has metal spindles as stock, also with brushless power the wheel nuts will undo if not tightened on this car. And if tightened on the plastic ones the plastic hexs become a problem
I did the brushless mod on mine and after a few runs the plastic hex fused to the hub and locked my left rear wheel. The outer bearing was also destroyed and needed replacement. Oh and btw, the bearings are proprietary. They are an odd size. 4x7x1.80mm. So you can only get them from a WL Toys retailer which I found disheartening. Why didn't they just go with a universal standard 4x7.2.0mm which EVERYBODY has? Now I have to wait X amount of days to get the bearings (sigh). It wasn't until after I bought another 144001 that had been modified from another guy with the aluminum hex's did I realize the the whole time it was the hex nut giving me issues. If you do the mod with the stock 144001 it will also go faster on the stock brushed setup and make it nicer to drive. So now I have a brushed and brushless 144001's. One for my grand daughter and one for papa.
Great video Richie, but I've heard that those alu hexes will drop the driveshaft pins like no one's business, and you'll just lose those pins when running! Have you had this issue yet? If not, I'm assuming that's because you really snug down the wheel nuts.
Great video. Bought the hexes a while back but I never installed because I felt they had way too much play. I pull on the tire and the drive shaft moves in/out about 2-3 mm - did yours do the same?
Hey boss you might want to find a more crisp audio clip for your intro , the one your using now is very pitching and almost sounds like it is trying to murder speakers with its pitch
I gave up worrying about comments on the sound about 2 years ago, people fail to realise it might just be down to the device they're listening to it on..........
Well if you're mainly on road then get one of these, it's not a basher but does 40Mph on 3s out of the box, or if you're more into off road then a Q902 or Q903 both of which are brushless and under $100, I've owned all 3.
use the 1/10 ones as that's the smallest they do. They are still quite a bit smaller than the stock tires but at least they don't balloon. Just ran at nearly 100mph on my 124019 today!

hexes and bearings first thing i get to put on,but I have also noticed the wlt lockpins bend really easily as this has happened with metal hexes in my case as well, was thinking a shim behind thepin or a bit more out of the groove may help.
Nothing got hot? You temp the motor at all. My golden rule is know the temp and you know 70% . you should also always check the tire and see if it spins freely before you run and after you put your tires on. I check to see if they roll free all my rc's every run. You could have burned up your motor or esc too
sure, but how do you explain it binding on the rears only and not the front? and if the pins are bending from over tightening on the plastic hex, what is stopping it from bending on the alloy hex and having the same binding problem occuring? is it because u can't over tighten with the alloy hex? cheers
Lol the plastic hex is not the problem it's you over tightening the wheels nuts. It's simple to fix just stop over tightening the nuts on. Plastic is better and lighter especially rotating mass.
hey brit, there's a reason why people like you have all metal parts on their cars. Maybe you should go faster and worry less about crashing. The "C" stands for Control, just FYI... You only have this issue if you upgrade the spindles to the metal ones. Its an RC car the wheel nuts dont need 100lbs of torque
