Hey 2014-2017 P150 owners. Here are a few items that may help you about this unit and what i have discovered... might be worth a read! Firstly , don't hesitate with this upgrade. given the state of things and the fact that it sounds like the P180 is still a couple of years away, i made the decision to hang onto my 2017 until at least then. the only thing in that car that kept underwhelming me, was the stock head-unit. A couple of notes and observations to add onto this video's fantastic content: 1 - I was blown away by what can only assume was Toyota's strategy for feature differentiation between models of prado. I was so impressed to find that a head of little features that you only got in the VX or Kakadu are absolutely in my GXL, and it was just the headunit that was dumbing it down for the "GXL Experience". Talk about the best kept Toyota secret. eg. in my GXL, my reversing camera guides were static green and red lines. plug in this head unit and you discover that the underlying car computer is fully aware of the steering wheel position and as you turn the wheel the reversing guide lines swish around like they do on the higher models and in a Lexus etc. or, the fact that the car knows which door is opened, and even though the GXL used to dumb that down to showing that "A Door" is open, this head unit will animate which door it is. or, there has been an irritating "feature" where if you use AUTO on the AC, and then drop them temp to "Low", the car would always turn on recirculate air. this head unit exposes this as a setting that you can dissociate if you like. the only one that i was super excited at, was when i saw the option to turn off the most irritating 'feature' of the GXL of all (and the one that has me annually replacing headlight bulbs at great expense). "Disable Daytime running lights". Alas.... the option is greyed out for me, because i think there is physically a wiring harness change between the GXL and the models above.... I overcame this cost by recently buying the most amazing LED replacements which will hopefully never run out and are bright enough to soften the bitumen ! (Go and check out stedi.com.au if you are interested. my experience with them and their product is as good as it has been with Vhedia!) 2 - as mentioned in my previous comment, there seem to only be 6 spots for the 7 little yellow clips that you move from the old console to the new one. i had a head-torch on and questioned my sanity for about 20 minutes, trying to find the 7th spot :) that bit of the video was sped up, which i tried to watch at half speed to count how many he clipped on. haha... 3 - while it is a super-easy install, and there are no tricky bits (other than the initial pull of the console to get it out, which looked easy in the video, but i found it hard to grip and it took a fair amount of force for me), i am somewhat not looking forward to the prospect of ever pulling it out to add on items that i now know about and wish i had bought from the get-go. eg, i wish i had read that the DAB was an optional extra, because i would have absolutely bought it at the time. after-all, i was already in so much trouble with my wife over the original purchase, what would another $50 matter ! now that this time has passed, i dare not seek further approval and i really dont fancy pulling it all apart again to install it. my point : do you want digital radio, or a fully integrated dash-cam... then buy it with the head-unit, or you probably wont afterwards, like me.... and be a bit regretful about the missed opportunity and functionality... 4 - accessory power (feature). be aware that the damn car will turn off acc power after about 10 minutes. this is so annoying during the configuration of apps. so to avoid this without gassing your self with a running engine, press the start button twice without touching your break pedal, to the point that your AC fans start blowing and the windows work. it seems that this will keep power on until it flattens your battery, and avoids the danger of powering off your system during a software update or config etc. 5 - inbuilt microphone. when i watched this video, it wasnt immediately clear why i needed to run a new microphone, and not just use the perfectly good one in the ceiling near the interior lights. i thought that maybe it was a better quality option, but the reality is that the car's in-built mic doesnt use a 3.5mm audio socket, and for reasons i really dont understand, the wiring harness for this headunit doesnt adapt the connection to the car's mic like it does for everything else. strange. i wish it did tbh. but that said, the 3rd party mic that it comes with is pretty neat and easy to install and i think it sounds ok. 6 - the steering wheel button learning app, doesnt seem to work as well as it might in other cars. my GX as always been missing a 'long-hold' option on the phone buttons on the steering wheel. yes i can answer and hang up from there, but it irritates the hell out of me that i have to keep saying "hey Siri", when in other cars, a long-press could be set to make siri listen to you talk. the app in the head unit doesnt seem to capture these buttons and i am stumped on how to achieve this. does anyone know how i can assign a steering wheel button to be siri ?
Just installed mine and couldn’t be happier with the amazing head unit and the fit/finish of how it all mounts. Awesome fast delivery and this video made installation simple. It is literally exactly like it is shown here. Only item that threw me was that the old head unit had 7 little yellow clips, but the new unit only had spots for 6.
@@VhediaVehicleMedia Been messing about with it for a few days now, such a great unit. is there a way to adjust the position of the UI ? in apps like HEMA, my on screen buttons seem to be partially off the bottom of the screen, unlike how they look in your HEMA video. i assume there is a system setting that allows me to adjust the screen position ?
@@VhediaVehicleMedia just realized that i have written more youtube comments across your channels video's than i have in over a decade of youtubing. all of them beyond the point of positive too! have a few points to help people like me who like to pre-read before buying something like this, and i hope my 2017 P150 GXL experience not only assists others but reassures them that i am pretty happy with this $1000 as well-spent! I missed the name of the guy who makes the video's but he does a super-good job of them, and they make a huge difference to the customer, who may otherwise me nervous of their ability to do this themselves. a few of my comments have questions that i hope can be answered by Vhedia and other prado, android, hema and apple users.

Hi mate, thanks for the tutorial. I've installed the head unit and i found that the head unit was only outputting audio to the front tweeters above the dash. I've gone over all the connections and everything looks to be in order but i'm just not getting any sound to my door speakers or the rest of the cabin. Any ideas?

Great video. Inspired me to remove my head unit to check all the cables i needed to order. When I put my head unit back, it does not turn on. I have checked the fuse under the drivers side (ACC, etc) and it passed the continuity test. Was about to order one but seems like I have stuffed up something on my existing unit? I would guess it could be related to earth? Any help will be appreciated.

Question does this keep all the kakadu features? We have a 2015 model. So have the 4 cameras, gps directions on the dash, heading on dash etc

What year and model of your car? Was it working properly before you pulled the head unit?

the screen now says connecting on Tlink and just doesn't connect, when it does it randomly disconnects. anyone help or is it just an IOS 16 issue
