$65,000 Paint Restoration for This Porsche 918 Spyder!

- When this beautiful Porsche 918 Spyder Hypercar came to us, it had a vinyl wrap all over the car that had been applied to take the car on a rally. Unfortunately, vinyl wraps do not protect paint anywhere near as well as PPF (paint protection film), and when we removed the vinyl the car had a noticeable number of stone chips.
Just like us, the owner of this car has an eye for detail and gave to go ahead to make the car perfect again. However, from Porsche, the paint was a $65,000 option, so it wasn't going to be an easy task. We professionally stripped the car, prepared the panels for painting, and carefully applied all the layers required to perfectly match the factory finish of Porsche Liquid Metal.
After that, we flattened and polished every panel to produce reflections that meet the Topaz standard, and locked in that perfect paint with our full paint protection film package, covering every painted and carbon section with a virtually invisible gloss protection layer. This prevents stone chips, scratches, and swirl marks, guaranteed for a minimum of 5 years.
The final step was to add Acid Green details for the customer, and then ceramic coat the entire body to repel dirt and water. Just like that, we have the perfect Porsche 918!

For those who are unsure, Porsche Liquid Metal is a $65k option when new from Porsche. This treatment does not cost $65k
I understand, but in what order should i think when it comes to the price of the treatment?
@@Vse_yob i bet its north of 65
Amazing work topaz. 👌
Absolutely amazing as usual! Question: why not PPF while the panels were removed?
It’s best to check how the light reflects on the panels when they sit on the car to make sure they’re all perfect first
Pays for $65000 paint option from Porsche.......proceeds to wrap car in camo
Who cares. Wraps come off. Also helps to protect the paint.
He wrapped the car to help protect the paint (and im sure make it look cool) only for a road rally event.
@@ryanpeck3377 He probably thought he protected the paint with a wrap, but it didn't obviously. At least not how you want on a car like that with a paintjob like that.
Bro he just doesn’t even care this 65K is the same dollar for us but for him
Maybe this is one of the few cars which are actually driven and it got in the gravel bed/ the car in front went of the track...Then he wrapped it camo to hide the damage
Topaz is more than just a paint shop, you guys are artists! What a mega video and car!
Thanks for your kind words
That Paint must come from the moon , madness .
Very nice Job and this car is stunning
Thanks for watching
Seeing those 5" pads on the tight panels at 5:40 makes me cry
david broadbent I thought that, would of been better to pass it twice with smaller.
🔥🔥🔥
PPF on fresh paint ? Upps !! How much the price of this car dropped with that bulky and thicker aftermarket paint? It is not longer original !!! So sad!
The PPF is going to stick so much, in the future when he takes the PPF off the paint comes rigth off
Id like to see how damaged it was to require a full respray
@MJ Mail My guess is its just some company enjoying scamming rich people
Umn911 *it’s
I think it wasn't so bad, so they didn't show it. lol
They really should have shown it, repainting already lowers value
@@Umn911 rich people aren't easy to scam like you think. they didn't get rich from being vulnerable and retarded.
When a paint job costs more than my yearly salary
As a car guy, I've been known to justify some absurd costs. But I'm not sure I can get behind this kind of money. I love the service for what it is and I think Topaz are second to none, but that number doesn't make sense and I think that this is another example of how the rich don't know when they're being scammed.
Jon are you joking?
The rich have too much money so they dont mind probabaly paying double of this until the job is done. A stage 2 correction for me and I'm happy lol which would cost a fraction of this by someone credible or has footage showing good work. Just shop around
In that same boat
@@amarrashid599 You ddin't understand the video, the job didnt cost 65k
The fine attention to detail paired with the music is therapeutic
Fascinating... And thanks for the soft music, rather than the manic beats lots of people would use!

The colour suit that Porsche PERFECTLY!! So beautiful!!
i don't know but to me it felt like watching DaVinci painting his masterpiece.

@Stev Rex it's called over-exgaration to show appreciation for the wonderfull job they do. Which they saw and replied thankfully for it. Only an idiot would reply with such a hatefull comment. Guess this points that haters stay hating. Go handwash your Daewoo Matiz.
My only question is, why would someone respray a car only for some minor rockchips and all, doesn't that depreciate the car's value greatly?
I didn't understand that too.
Not if it’s done properly...
If it did the job at TOPAZ, it values more than when lefted the factory imo
Gustavo de Caires Anhaia A repainted car will never be worth the same as a original example now and certainly not in the future. A true collector or dealer will slate the car 100%.
I didn't understand it too.. Didn't made any sense to repaint a car for some rockchips. There is 100% chance that the color from the rest of the car is a little bit off, or if it is painted completely, people can tell that it has been repainted and will wonder if it has been crashed...
Don’t you need to wait 2-3 weeks after painting before wrapping/ppf:ing?
clearly not as the whole job was done in just over 14 mins.
Yeah, ideally it is best to wait a month before applying any waxes or wraps on fresh paintwork.
You don't know the timeframe

Stefan Bostandjiev what happened?
Stefan Bostandjiev hard to polish a turd
Mbal 40 wtf u on about. When they polished the paint they had left some stains of some sort. Then they put some cheap ppf over it. When we received it we were not happy so we took it to a specialist to re-do the car. But when he took off the ppf, the paint started chipping. Topaz say if a ppf is put on properly it should be super easy to take off without destroying the paint
You never dissappoint your viewers Topaz... Another awesome and relaxing detail... It needs an another level of skills altogether to make an already beautiful car look more stunning. Seriously, awesome work... And god bless you.
Thank you for your kind words
How long do you need to wait before applying PPF?
Depends on how you treat the Paint, the least I saw was 6 days I think but sometimes up to 60-90 days
Then tell us how much for painting, correction and protection on this car pls 😊
I think the point is that as the saying goes..if you have to ask how much it costs, you cant afford it anyways 😉
@@ryanpeck3377 Not in this case, as I can afford the car and the paint job if I wanted. Just wanted to find out what he charges
@@richjohn9356 lol.

Amazing job, the car looks like a work of art, stunning!
That's nice to hear that someone pays more for a PAINT than i can afford to spend on a WHOLE car....
Work harder then and stop complaining
@@superspice5659 Do you really think that super rich are super rich because they work harder than other?! Say that to miners, nurses, surgeons.
@@arturgarncarz3631 why are you still complaing?
See, Topaz isn't a detailer. It's like saying Singer "tunes" older Porsches. Topaz provides a nearly Concours level of attention to a properly restorative level of detail. This is a service much like an engine-out service where it doesn't have to happen as often as a wash or an oil change, but there's a time and place where getting everything back to perfection calls for drastic measures. But fat Jesus, that's a lot of money.
Thanks for watching 🙏
Hey Topaz when can the ceramic coating be installed after painting the car? how long do you have to wait to be able to put it? Cheers
how long do you have to let the paint cure before installing PPF?
48 hrs i think
That's what I thought. At least a few days for sure....
Normally u must wait weeks.
Very curious to hear Topaz's answer to this. I’m thinking weeks too.
Quick question....why do you ceramic coat a self healing ppf, seems redundant. Is it just to enhance the hydrophobic properties of the film? Thanks
Yes exactly that, it repels water and dirt, and makes it easier to clean
Why does is liquid metal a $65k option if you can respray it so easily for so much less? I thought creating liquid metal paint was a way more involved process that involved magnets, or something?
Porsche's option included 9 different layers of paint, this is one layer but has depth.
Correct me if im wrong, but isnt is bad to apply ppf so soon? Like doesn't the paint need to cure?
I doubt they bother to tell us that it sat for days while they waited for that. It's all about quality and quality takes time and everyone knows that. Cheers!
Can a car be disgustingly beautiful? Well, this 918 is it. Simply stunning. Great job.

The car must have lost value when the original factory paint was removed?
Sure it lost it. If another owner of the car will even know it. I would not pay the same amount of money for repainted car. Not a car of this value.
@@LightSpiD Would't it have been better to leave the factory paint intact and just repair the dents? There is no way an after-market paint can be more durable than the factory paint.
@@msbrownbeast aftermarket paint can absolutely be better than factory. Ive never seen a gauge used to see how thick the 918's paint job is but everything is a cost. paint has got thinner and thinner over the years.
@@msbrownbeast factory paint is most of the times very horrible even on high end paints. I’m sure they do a better job.
Simply amazing id love to be able to complete all the workings in this it would be so amazing being able to work for yourselves and being able to complete work on such an amazing car
Thanks for watching
I thought the paint has to cure for a few weeks bevore putting ppf on
Not when you have access to an oven to bake the whole car. The car was also with us for a number of weeks
How can people dislike this video what’s wrong with you?
Calm down Angel.
Here goes half the value of the car out of window for being fully painted ......but who cares I guess the oil wells are much deeper than we think ....
How long did you let the paint settle before PPF was installed? As far as i know it takes week for the paint to dry completly before you can do any wrap on it.
It's funny . I've flatted a d polished hundreds of vehicles over many years. I never really thought of how many times l could have flatted through the lacquer but when l see your craftsmen l get the jitters! Thanks for sharing.

Stunning finish to such a great looking rare super car . It would be nice to see how the protection film is measured to fit

Brits are really funny...
They call this a "restoration"??? Working on a perfectly made German hyper sports car, which is just a few years old, for such a little British garage company like "Topaz" means "restoring it"... Really??? Hahahahahaha!!
You are really funny!
Better i am paint DIY. $500 Polyurethane paint.$500 spraygun and tool. And $500 for detailing kit.
I noticed that after you guys apply ppf on top of the car theres still some sort of "orang peel" on the paint job. Is it because of the ppf or its just a reflection issue ? :o
PPF adds a small amount of orange peel. It’s much better than it used to be
Cause i noticed the gt3 rs with the 100 hour detail with ppf has very very minimal to none of orange peel which i gotta say HELLA AWESOME !
So basically you repainted multiple panels, and likely blended the paint in. This was a video about a high-end body shop, there are plenty who operate to this, or higher standards. No matter how nicely the job is done, it is only original once. There is no such thing as a "perfect paint match", not even two 918s in an identical color would be exactly the same match. And for anyone wondering, this definitely WILL affect the resale value, regardless of the job quality. Just be honest about it. I'm not saying it's all about resale value, because the owner is probably well aware of this, and it's absolutely respectable to just want the car to be 100% regardless. Nice video either way
Is that Shmee's Ford GT in the thumbnail?
Ferrari LaFerrari
I'm curious to know how the PPF will react to the not fully cured paint. Most of the best painters in the business seem to agree that paint won't fully gas out for as long as 3 months after being sprayed in some cases. Is there any risk that the PPF will bond to the paint on this 918 in a way that will cause damage in the future if it is ever removed? Obviously, you guys do things to the Nth degree, so I'm not questioning your quality of work. Just curious to know if you've found a way to cheat the system when it comes to curing fresh paint in a quicker fashion.
Wait a minute here you charging 65k for a paint job and you guys are not even applying a flow coat of clear coat over the existing 2 layers of clear 😮👀🧐
I don't know why I watch this. I prefer a car to look like it just finished 24HRS of Le Mans. I used to paint dirt on my matchbox cars when I was a kid for heaven's sake.
You scoundrel, it is seen as a white day in your eyes. I have 12 years of professional experience. All over 3500-10000 is the wild deception of wealthy customers.
That’s the correct way to spread the wealth, not having it confiscated by the government to disappear in the pockets of politicians and their cronies. If this was a $10,000 option, porsche would be making good money on it😳
Lol 65 grand for painting ,polishing and some ppf?? Yea,the car looks great but that's just basic work on there the owner was ripped off by at least 30 grand
I'm betting that silly owner put another wrap on that 918 after this... I have nothing against wraps, but there are certain cars you just DON'T put a wrap on and this is one of them..
9:37 Sami Khedira ?
hahaha nice catch
Song used? I have watched this so many times. Just beautiful work, precision and most of all the passion going into work like this.
It would have looked awesome with a matte PPF. The color of the paint and the matte PPF Would make it look like a fighter jet. Also, hopefully the PPF is the ceramic PPF that can be heated to self heal any scratches that occur on the PPF through daily usage.
Incredible. But, I’ve you got a few million for a car, what’s a 30k paint job? Nothing
Why was the paint restoration not done by porsche itself? That to 918 is one of the most ironic one from porsche?
Restoring outside porsche will degrade the value of the vehicle then why ??
Small areas or even the complete car being repainted does not decrease value if its does correctly. There's a huge difference between a back street repaint to a top quality show paint job. I'd rather a repainted car in perfect condition than an original with stone chipped /scratched bodywork
Music?
its only 65k because your attacking the owners wallet, you know the worth of the car and what the owner can afford. this paint job isnt worth a penny more than $10k at the most.
I'm sure there was a good reason, but can you explain why you didn't apply the PPF when the panels were off the car? It seems that would be a bit easier.
Just seeing the end process really...would have been good to see some of the prep aswell. Also thought you needed to leave a few months before applying PPF on fresh paint ??
It's a 14 minute video. They know what they are doing. Follow Shmee150 on his SLS AMG.
The moment he said nine one eight I wanted to click away. IT'S NINE EIGHTEEN GOD DAMNIT
Nice! But why didn’t he put ppf on it, If I rersprayed my 918 I would do anything to keep it in that condition!
$65,000 Paint restoration.. LOL
Too much money no sense some people :)
aftermarket paint seriously devalues the car imo. There are ways to patch rock chips and afterwards doe a though paint correction.
These guys are like the Neuro Surgeons of paintwork..
$65k...for grey? Unless it's incredible in person, I wouldn't.
Because this is a freshly painted panel and you know your going to remove a fair bit of clear coat after you’ve painted it to remove the orange peel do you spray extra clear coat on in the first place so you have plenty to work with in the future if needed
Anybody that’s a spray painter will know how nerve wrecking it can be if you think your going to go through when sanding new paint , class job
Thanks for watching
