Cool! I have a friend I used to work with that was big into the azwoodturners group. I'm just a self-taught turner, doing it in retirement. I have a bunch of mesquite, and that's actually my next project. I'm a little nervous because I may have an allergy to mesquite. This will be a test. I'm surprised at how pretty all the wood from landscape trees is here. I never would have guessed before I started collecting logs and turning. Thanks for watching!
@@FRBPturning I to am a self taught turner. I took one class with AZWoodturners to learn how to use a skew. I am also retired although I worked part time at Bass Pro to work in the fly shop until I found I didn’t have enough time to work in my shop. LOL. I also have Willow Acacia as well as Texas Ebony, African Sumak from all local trees here in Mesa and Chandler.
Thanks for watching! I made a conscious choice not to narrate because I hate my recorded voice. 🙃 I think some turners add value with narration, and others distract from the process. I may try some narrated videos later and see how they do.
@@FRBPturning Thank you for the quick reply! I can understand your reasoning and certainly agree re: those who don't do a good job of narration. I'm looking forward to more videos!
I don't know why you're so excited about the terminology, but my understanding is it's called live edge if the bark stays on and natural edge if no bark. I make artistic bowls. Sometimes, I balance the rim, sometimes not. You don't have to like it but it's not wrong. Thanks for watching anyway!
@@FRBPturning I agree with you 100%, that is a beautiful bow.. I turn mostly Mesquite and Emery Oak and like you my bowls are mostly art turnings. Almost anyone can turn a store bought perfectly symmetrical blank but it takes talent to bring out the beauty of a natural piece of wood. Opinions are like a$$ holes, everybody has one. Keep on turning.
Much more interesting than the flat top bowl. Super pretty features.
Thank you! I do much prefer live or natural edge bowls. I'm more into art pieces than straight up utilitarian salad bowls, etc
Very pretty wood. It looks like something I turned and haven’t been able to figure out, but the bark is different. Anyhow, great job, Jim. 👍
Thanks John. It turns nicely and finishes silky smooth. I'm glad I have like 70+ blanks. It'll take a while to get through them all.
Where did you get that much beautiful rosewood?
Amazing pile!
@danielmetzler307 a friend had 2 giant trees taken down in his yard. I got like 80 bowl blanks out of the deal!
Jim. I am also a turner living in Mesa. I also have some Sisoo. Mosty I turn Mesquite. I belonged to AZ WOODTURNERS.

@alandisomma-od5fz I done have any arrival sumac or Texas ebony. I'll have to keep an eye out after the next storm.
That wood is beautiful! I'm curious why you didn't narrate it.

WRONG YOU MUST ADJUST THE EDGES SO YOUR BOWL IS BALANCED SHAPE WHEN TURNED.
NATURAL EDGES BOWL IS WITH THE BARK STILL ATTACHED TO THE BOWL.
